“You barely ate at noon and are probably hungry now, so I brought you some freshly baked treats. Itwas made by the chef who applied for the job today. We’ve all tried it and think he isn’t bad.”
Isabella turned around and walked back to her desk.
Tati followed suit.
“I’m sick of eating the same thing and didn’t have much of an appetite at noon, so I wasn’t full. I dofeel hungry now.” Isabella leaned against her desk and reached for the bag Tati brought to retrieve abox. The treats were meticulously shaped into flowers, fruits, and animals.
“These are quite delicate. Were they good? You said the chef who applied today made these,right?”
Tati replied, “Yeah. He’s from out of state. He does look very young—not even in his thirties. Isa, I’mtelling you, if you don’t hire him, I will. He’s as handsome as a celebrity.
“But he’s much manlier than them. Oh, he hasn’t yet let us try his specialties though. He only madethese treats for us. He said he would prepare his best for you once you had time to go home fordinner.”
Simply passing the interview and being good at cooking was not enough to be hired by theO’Connors. The head of the family had to meet the applicants, try their food, and talk to them toensure they passed the vibe check before they could even be considered for the role.
That was why superb cooking skills must pair with a good character to be hired as the O’Connors’private chef.
Tati recalled the face of the applicant she saw today and smiled. “It’s not like we haven’t seenhandsome men before, but the applicant who came today really is handsome. I’d feel full just by
looking at his face.
“He’s a whole meal all by himself.”
Amused, Isabella said, “It looks like you have a crush on him and are already dreaming of marriage.If you have fallen for him at first sight, I’ll get someone to look into his character and familybackground. If he’s suitable, we can consider it.”
“Nah, forget it. I’m just admiring his looks, I don’t actually want to marry him. And besides, thereshould be equality in marriage. Our baby brothers are still young and are relying on us to supportthe family. Plus, lots of people actually look down on us.
“There are lots of people who have their eye on our family too. We have to marry people of equalstatus, not gold diggers, even if he’s capable. We have to consider our family’s status.
“You know what they say—using money to test someone’s character never works out.”
Tati only thought that today’s applicant was very handsome. If Isabella did not hire him, she wouldfor her family just because he was good at making treats and had good looks.
It was also another form of enjoyment to eat delicious treats while looking at a handsome man.
Isabella opened the box of treats, which also came with a small fork and knife. When she heardthis, she paused and asked, “He’s that young?
“If he’s too young, he won’t be any good unless he’s been cooking under a famous chef’s guidanceever since he was young.
“Just look at our chefs. Every single one of them has been in this field for over a decade and still wehave to change them often.”

Isabella picked up the small knife and cut a treat in half. Then, she swapped to a fork and picked upone half. Before she put it in her mouth, she gave Tati a look and said, “How is it not worth it? Oncethey leave, all the major hotels will be fighting to hire them. Compared to before working for us, theirvalue would have increased so many times over.”
