Zachary ran ahead and Ben jogged after him.
“Luckily, our families are close. Otherwise, I would’ve felt bad for disturbing you early in the morning.”
The neighborhood was quiet. Only a few residents were having their morning runs.
“Laurence is rarely here. I understand that he doesn’t waste a single second he can play with his friend.
“He’s improved a lot. It’s obvious from the speed he ran after jumping out of the car. I think Sonny can
never catch up to him.”
Ben said, “Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. Laurence’s downside is that he loves eating.
He’s a total glutton. Whenever he’s home, he likes following Lee around and asking him to make all
sorts of food for him. He still wants to eat even after his stomach is bloated.
“Jane was worried that he’d overeat. It’s great that he’s training daily to burn off the calories.”
“Kids are all like that. It’ll get better after they grow up. My nana said I was a glutton too when I was
young. However, I think I changed after growing up.” He restrained himself from eating too much after
learning self-control with his increasing age.
Ben agreed. “Let’s hope that’s the case. Otherwise, he might fall into traps because of food.”
The men and boys ran around for half an hour before heading back.
Serenity was already up and strolling in the garden when they returned. She walked toward the gate
when she heard Sonny’s laughter.
“Aunt Ser.”
The children were ahead of the adults and ran into the villa first. Sonny ran over when he saw Serenity.
Laurence followed him.
“Aunt Seren.”
“Laurence, you’re here?”
Serenity was surprised to see him.
She thought it was Remy when she saw his car parked in the courtyard.
If Laurence was here, Ben or Jane was surely around too.
“I missed you, so I followed Uncle Ben here to visit you.”
Laurence was honey-tongued.
Sonny looked at him and asked, “Didn’t you say you missed me?”
“I missed Aunt Seren too. I missed you all.”
Only then was Sonny satisfied.
He went to Serenity and held her hand before saying, “I want to tell you something, Aunt Ser.”
“What is it about?”
Serenity took some tissue and bent down to wipe the sweat off Sonny’s and Laurence’s foreheads.
“Aunt Ser, Laurence took a few days off school. He said he could stay here to play for two days, but I
have to go to preschool tomorrow. Can you call in absent for me tomorrow?”
“You want to take a day off school?”

Jane was not with them.
Sonny continued, “I want to be absent from school for one day. Laurence doesn’t come by a lot. I want
to play with him for two days.”
He held up two fingers and requested to play with Laurence for two days.
“I told Uncle Zak about it. He said I should ask you. Can you tell the teacher that I won’t be going to
school tomorrow, please?”
Serenity said, “I’m only your temporary guardian. We should tell your mom about this. I’ll help you if she
agrees, but only for this once, okay?”
