Chapter 2458
“It’s already eight o’clock, and I noticed you haven’t come downstairs for breakfast. Alice, are you
alright?”
Alice habitually supported her protruding belly with one hand and smiled. “I’m fine, just been having
some restless nights lately, so I decided to stay in bed. When Clive got up, I was already awake, but I
didn’t feel like getting up. Haven’t you gone to the office yet?”
“I'll go in a bit. There’s not much going on lately, so I’ll check in and then go to the bookstore. Jasmine
is looking after the bookstore, and Seren is still on her honeymoon. She won’t be back at the company
for this whole month.”
After their wedding, although the newlyweds had not gone on a honeymoon or returned to work, they
spent almost every day at Wildridge Manor, living a slow-paced and leisurely life, as happy as a pair of
larks.
Occasionally, Elisa visited the manor and saw the newlyweds enjoying their relaxed life, which made
her envious.
“Seren is still in her honeymoon period. Let her enjoy the happiness of her honeymoon. Does she have
severe morning sickness?”
Alice walked back to the sofa in the room and sat down. Her belly was too big, and she could not stand
for long without feeling tired.
“She’s relieved that she is not vomiting anymore. She’s very relieved indeed.”novelbin
Elisa sat down beside her sister-in-law and looked at her pregnant belly. She reached out and touched
it, saying, “This nephew of mine is quite mischievous, isn’t he?”
He had been quite a handful for her sister-in-law.
"Oh, Alice, he’s moving. He just kicked me!”
Elisa felt the fetal movements and found it amazing.
Alice smiled and said, “It’s morning right now, so fetal movements are relatively mild. At night, though, it
gets lively. Your brother loves teasing him the most.”
When her morning sickness was severe, Clive had considered aborting the child. However, after feeling
the baby’s movements and experiencing the healthy growth of the little life inside her, he had
developed some paternal affection for the child.
Alice used to worry that after the child was born, Clive would not be attentive to the baby. Now, she was
reassured.
Elisa continued touching Alice’s belly and said, “Little one, I’m your aunt. Are you awake now? Can you
hear me talking to you? If you can hear your aunt, kick my hand again.”
The baby kicked again.
“Alice, he heard me! He responded!”
Alice said with a smile, “He kicked because he felt you touching. It doesn’t mean that he can hear you.”
She caressed her tummy. Ever since she got pregnant, she loved touching her belly.
“When are you planning to have your prenatal check-up, Alice? I’ll go with you since I have some free
time.”
Every time she went for check-ups, Clive followed. Elisa felt that her brother had become too busy and
tired recently. As a result, she wanted to help ease his burden.
“Tomorrow. I’m in the late stages of my pregnancy, so the check-ups are getting more frequent…”
Alice’s face winced suddenly.
“What’s wrong, Alice? Are you feeling unwell?”
As she saw Alice grimacing, Elisa asked out of concern, “Did the baby kick too hard after I played with
it?”
“No, I think I have a stomachache.”
Alice continued, “It is not a severe pain, just a slight, dull pain.”
Elisa quickly stood up and asked anxiously, “Is it time for labor? I'll take you to the hospital right away.”
“But the expected delivery date is half a month away.”
“I heard that some babies come out before their expected due dates. This must be a premature birth,
no doubt about it.”
Alice thought otherwise. She said, “I'm currently thirty-seven weeks pregnant, so it shouldn't be
considered premature, right? Don't be too anxious for now, Elisa. It might not necessarily be labor. I'm
just feeling a slight, lingering discomfort.”
“We should go to the hospital if you feel any discomfort. Our home is a bit far from the hospital, and we
shouldn't wait until it worsens before going. What if you go into labor on the way there?”
Although Elisa was not married, and had no experience conceiving a child, Clive bought her a book
about pregnancy as Alice got pregnant. Elisa would sometimes read the book when she was free, and
from it she learnt a little.
In her own words, she would get married sooner or later. She would also have to give birth one day.
She should learn in advance so she would not have to panic in the future.
