Chapter 2438

Duncan was not involved with Liberty romantically, and neither was she dating anyone. That was a

good thing.

Oh, the drunkard wanted to pursue Liberty. The man went to Liberty’s restaurant to meet her when

Duncan let his guard down once. Now that Duncan knew about his rival, he stopped the drunkard from

ever getting close to Liberty again.

Duncan had been watching over Liberty for more than a year. There was no way he would allow

someone else to swoop in and take her away.

“It’s cloudy today. Why is your face burning up?” Liberty asked.

Duncan replied, “Really? I might have practiced walking a little too long. I’m exhausted. My face must

be red because I need air.”

He refused to admit that he blushed because she wiped away his sweat.

Duncan was pushing forty. Although he had never been intimate with anyone, he had imagined what it

would be like. Besides, he had seen a lot in his rebellious stage, so he was not completely green.

He believed he was not an innocent man for he had gained experience through materials.

“Don’t tire yourself, Mr. Lewis. Your legs are still healing. It would be counterproductive if you get

yourself hurt. The doctor told you to take it easy.”

“It’s okay. I can take it, but I need to go for my examination at the hospital the day after tomorrow. Do

you have time, Liberty? Can you come with me?”

After a nice drink of water, Duncan lifted his head and looked deep into Liberty’s eyes.

Every time he went for his check-up, Duncan was accompanied by either his parents or brother. Most

of the time, he had his bodyguards with him.

He wanted Liberty to go with him this time.

Liberty agreed to it without a second thought. “Seren is coming back tomorrow. I have time the day

after tomorrow. What time is your appointment? I’ll fetch you from your place and we’ll go together.”

Duncan said with a smile, “You don’t have to pick me up. We don’t live far apart. My chauffeur will drop

me off here. My appointment is around eight in the morning. We can go early and come back right after

my check-up.”

The hospital was his least favorite place in the world, but he had to go there.

“Serenity will be back for dinner with you tomorrow. I’ll send some people to help you. Otherwise, you

and Mrs. Lane would be swamped with dinner preparations.”

Duncan had assigned his helpers to help with the luncheon for the bridal party.

Liberty replied, “We’re having an intimate dinner here tomorrow with close family. Mrs. Lane and I can

handle it, but I’d need to attend to the guests, so I could use some help. I can pay for the service. You

don’t have to pay for me.”

Her business was going well, so she could not get people from her restaurant to help. She had to rely

on Duncan for hiring labor.

Duncan pretended to be angry and said, “Why are you acting like a stranger to me, Liberty? You know

how I feel about you. Besides, because of my relationship with Zachary, I can’t take your money. I’m

already paying my employees. I’m just giving them extra for the help they will give you.

“You don’t have to pay them again. Don’t fight with me over a few hundred dollars, or I’ll get angry.”

Liberty smiled. “Alright. I won’t fight with you over a couple of hundred dollars. You can foot the bill.”

Duncan dined at her restaurant every day anyway. She did not charge him for the food, and that should

offset the payment.novelbin

She did not want to owe favors, and neither was she the type to take advantage of people.

Duncan stopped scowling and replied, “That’s the way to go. We’re close friends. Why are you always

careful to keep things separate between us?”

Liberty had even done so with Zachary, not wanting to take anything extra from him. Duncan believed

that for Liberty to let him pay, she was seeing him as family.
