Chapter 2340

Julian said to Quinn, “As far as I know, there’s a rose garden, sunflower garden, and another one with

an assortment of flowers. But it’s October now, so there aren’t many flowers in bloom. Come spring, the

gardens are a sight to behold.”

Quinn rolled down the window and looked into the distance. She gasped in amazement and asked, “Is

that the Yorks’ residence? Are those people from the family?”

“The place there is the Yorks’ family home. The people you see are mostly their employees. They take

care of the gardens and orchards. It takes a village to run the estate.

“Some of them are distant relatives of the Yorks.

“The family members stay in some of the houses there. The rest of the buildings are the workers’

lodging. The Yorks provide generous housing for their employees. Single employees get a unit with a

separate kitchen and bathroom.

“The employees with families get an apartment, which isn’t huge but spacious enough and well-

equipped.”

Quinn’s eyes widened in marvel. She asked, “So the employees here enjoy the same benefits as white

collars?”

Julian said with a smile, “Their benefits are better than most white collars. They also receive incentives

when their children get good grades, enroll in college, or even land a job at York Corporation.

“The turnover rate for employees is almost non-existent. They don’t want to leave after getting used to

the place. Plus, the York family is a great employer. Grandma May, especially, is down-to-earth.”

“If I were their employee, I wouldn’t want to leave a job with great benefits and a nice boss either. It

explains why the Yorks remain the wealthiest in Wiltspoon.”

Although the Yorks were wealthy and powerful, they were a close-knit family and got along well. Even

ordinary families had their share of conflicts.

All the children and grandchildren of the family were successful too.

“I heard that Old Mrs. York has a high IQ.”

Julian smiled and shared his thoughts of the old lady. “Grandma May is cunning. She always smiles,

but you never know what she's thinking. She’s like Mother Teresa, but when she sets you up, you won't

see it coming.

“My advice is not to engage with her. Well, she’ll come to you if she finds you promising. She’s a loyal

woman. She has nine grandsons but only Zachary is married while Callum is engaged. No wedding

bells for the rest yet. Still, she worries about the marriages of her best friend’s grandchildren.”

Grandma May somehow found the time to help out in Julian’s and Duncan’s love lives too.

Julian’s parents would not have set him up on dozens of blind dates if it were not for Grandma May.

Julian felt like a zoo animal, on display for all to see.

“She’s just an old lady wanting to help,” Quinn commented with a smile.

“Yes, she loves to help. Grandma May’s well-connected and highly respected in Wiltspoon.”

The old lady was held in high regard by the rich and powerful of Wiltspoon. When York Corporation and

Stone Group were at odds, the Stones would back down if she intervened.novelbin

Audrey was a force to be reckoned with, but she was putty in Grandma May's hands.

“Now, I’m interested in meeting Old Mrs. York. I’m just saying though. Don’t take it seriously. I don’t

want you to bother Mr. York and Old Mrs. York because of me.”

Quinn admired the strong, and Grandma May seemed like the type she looked up to.

Julian said modestly, “I don’t think I have the power to do that even if I wanted to. My company has a

few collaborations with York Corporation. I dined with Mr. York a few times, so I asked him for the favor

of bringing you around Wildridge Manor.”

Quinn was grateful. “I can’t thank you enough, Mr. Bucham. It was quite a tall ask.”
