Chapter 2323

Belinda’s expression softened.

She said, “You don’t have to mind what others say. They don’t want you or Celine to be the next

matriarch.

“The Fisher family has been around for a century. We’ve been through ups and downs. What else out

there that we’ve yet to encounter?

“We’ve overshadowed our distant relatives for many years, so of course they’d be dissatisfied and want

to move up the hierarchy whenever possible. They must’ve been the ones who spread the rumors too.”

Belinda could never tell Caroline that she herself was the one who had caused her sisters' deaths.

Those who knew about it were all dead and all evidence was destroyed by her. Thinking about it, did

she forget anyone?

It had been decades since the incident. She would never admit to her crime if there was no concrete

evidence.

Her nieces were young back then, so any recollection they had was vague at best. Plus, they were

difficult to locate. For decades, she had been keeping an ear to the ground about her nieces, but

nothing ever surfaced.

Wiltspoon was huge. Even if her nieces were truly there, how could they be found easily?

Nevertheless, she would not be scared even if they were found.

Without the Fisher family’s support, surviving would have been difficult for her nieces. If they were

lucky, they could have been adopted by an ordinary family. Without any connections to the Stones or

Yorks, how could her nieces compete with Caroline?

Besides, Belinda’s nieces were not young anymore whereas Caroline had the advantage of youth.

“Carol, although our family’s different from the rest, the infighting is just as much. You can’t trust

anyone aside from your assistant.”

Caroline replied, “I know, Mom.”

“Good. Go back to your room and rest. I’ll give you a new car tomorrow.”

“Thank you, Mom.

“You should rest earlier too.”

Caroline took the envelope and left.

Not long after, Hunter knocked on the door and entered.

“Fisher, what did Carol take?”

Hunter called his wife by her last name instead of her first name.

“Just a few receipts.”

Belinda walked to Hunter and said, “I’m not in a good mood now. Come have a walk with me to enjoy

the night scenery.”

“Why are you in a bad mood?”

Hunter asked out of concern. “Did Carol upset you? She’s not close to us because she didn’t grow up

by our side.”

“That’s because you’re partial to Cece. Carol’s our biological daughter. We must be clear on that

regardless of whether she grew up with us.”

Hunter smiled. “Yes, yes. I’m biased, but aren’t you the same? Although Cece isn’t ours by blood,

we’ve raised her for over twenty years. She’s like our own.

“Since Carol returned, your treatment of Cece has obviously worsened. You’d fulfill whatever she

wanted in the past, but now, you even rejected her request to have a meal with Mr. Queen alongside

Carol.

“You didn’t get Cece a new car despite buying Carol one. She was so upset that she was whining to

me about it just now.

“Carol doesn’t resemble either of us. She seems unpredictable.”

Hunter had many opinions about his biological daughter but dared not express his doubts before

“If Carol were capable of scheming, I wouldn’t have had to scold her every day. She only became a

little smarter and better in business after much scolding. However, she still can’t shoulder huge

responsibilities.”
