Belinda sighed and said, “She’s indeed different from us, but the multiple DNA tests and results tell us
that she’s our daughter.
“Caroline’s features do resemble us. It’s just her way of doing things is too soft. She’s too weak for
someone with Fisher blood flowing in her veins. I’m getting older, but I don’t know when she’ll be ready
to succeed me. Otherwise, I could retire and take care of our grandchildren with you.
“I wonder when our daughters-in-law can give us a granddaughter. I hope our first grandchild is a girl.
I’ll feel reassured that way. If Carol isn’t capable enough, I can nurture our granddaughter to be the
successor while I’m still alive.”
Hunter started having ideas upon hearing this. Caroline was a better fit as the matriarch than his
granddaughter. However, she did not grow up by his side. Their relationship as a father and daughter
was distant.
If Caroline were the matriarch, he would have to behave and be cautious.
On the other hand, if his granddaughter were the head of the family, the youngsters would have tonovelbin
respect him. His days could be better.
Only women could be the head of the Fisher family but giving birth to daughters was not easy.
The previous matriarch had better luck and had two daughters while the Fishers’ predecessors also
easily gave birth to daughters. Only Belinda and Hunter managed to have a daughter after a few sons.
There was no telling if their sons could give birth to a daughter on their first try.
Hunter and Belinda then went to the garden for a stroll. He brought back his earlier subject, saying,
“You haven’t told me what Carol did. Your mood only worsened after talking to her. Did she blame me
for setting her up on a blind date?”
“No. She just did some things behind my back that made me unhappy. I’m frustrated that my people
couldn’t gather substantial evidence.”
Belinda was worried that her relationship with Caroline would fracture if Caroline managed to discover
the truth.
Even though Caroline might appear fragile, Belinda knew better than to underestimate her strength.
Moreover, Caroline had a strong sense of righteousness.
If she could find out the truth, then she would likely break all ties with Belinda and not take over the
Fisher family.
At this age, Belinda often wondered if the reason she had issues looking for a successor was
retribution for having committed many atrocities when she was young.
Caroline was righteous and upheld positive values, perhaps Belinda would even be defeated by her.
“Is Carol that impressive? I don’t think so. How can she be when she’s so soft? Mr. Fletcher must’ve
played a huge role in this. Your family trained him after all. He excels in various aspects, much like your
personal assistant. Even I get nervous around him.
Belinda’s right-hand man was her personal assistant, whom she had more faith in than she had in her
husband.
“I’ve advised you not to assign Mr. Fletcher to Carol so soon. She grew up in the countryside, so she
doesn’t have much insight and was never exposed to business. How can you entrust everything to her
in one go?
“What if she can’t rein in Mr. Fletcher and he takes control instead?”
To Hunter, the matriarch’s personal assistant had the highest ranking among all employees.
“We raised Cece, and you’ve poured much effort into nurturing her but I don’t see you assigning Mr.
Fletcher to her.”
Caroline would not have become stronger if Darren had been with Celine from the start.
Belinda sighed before saying, “I’m old. I can’t hold on for much longer. I have to make proper
arrangements.
“Cece isn’t our biological daughter.
“The Fishers’ rules can’t be changed.”
Hunter pouted. He switched the topic to cheer his wife up.
