authority over them.
Hunter also had to be meek in front of his wife, like a maid, and that upset him. He had no choice but to
bet all his hope on his daughter.
“Cece, I can’t change what your mom has decided. You should go to her. I can’t do anything. Didn’t you
hear what Caroline said? I married into your mom’s family. I don’t have any authority.”
“Dad.”
Hunter said resignedly, “Cece, my hands are tied. You know what status I hold in this family.”
Celine pouted. She knew her dad was telling the truth. He had no authority in the Fisher family.
In the study room on the second floor, Belinda was already seated behind the table and waiting for
Caroline. She said, “Lock the door.”
Caroline did as told.
“Why did your car break down?” Belinda asked.
“It was tampered with.”
Belinda leaned against the chair and asked, “Do you suspect anyone?”
“I can’t think of anyone besides my dad, brothers, sisters-in-law, and your dearest Celine.”
Caroline’s reply did not anger Belinda.
After a moment of silence, Belinda said, “My feelings for Celine are complicated now. However, our
family rules can’t be changed.”
She meant that Caroline did not have to worry because once she retired, the position of the matriarch
in the Fisher family would definitely belong to Caroline.
“You should’ve asked Celine to return to her home.”
Belinda smiled. “Carol, she’s not my flesh and blood, but still useful. We can at least keep her for you to
practice on.”
Although harsh words were directed at Celine when angered, Belinda still kept her around. Caroline’s
life could not be all smooth sailing. Otherwise, she would not be able to protect the Fishers’ legacy.
Belinda even anticipated Caroline to surpass her.
From the way Belinda saw it, Caroline possessed business acumen. She was calm and mature, whichnovelbin
made her Belinda’s ideal successor.
Belinda would sometimes imagine a scenario where her daughter had not been swapped twenty years
ago. If Caroline had been nurtured as her successor since she was young, she would have already
become the matriarch. If so, Belinda would have been able to retire and live a relaxed life.

“By the way, is there really no possibility of you being together with Mr. Queen? I think you two are
somewhat fated for each other. You bump into him frequently, and he admires you too.”
