Chapter 2316

It was a challenging assignment to tackle. Caroline put Darren on the job because he was the best.

Darren had also hand-picked and trained a few reliable allies for Caroline.

He said apologetically, “I could’ve done better. I let you down, Ms. Fisher.”

“It’s not your fault. The incident happened decades ago. Even if there was any trace left behind, my

mom likely destroyed it. Anyone who knew about it is probably dead now. It will be very difficult to

investigate and find evidence.

“I haven't been able to find anything in Wiltspoon yet. Their influence and network are too strong there.”

Caroline’s cousin, Audrey, was in Wiltspoon.

“Nothing still in Wiltspoon?” Darren asked, curious as things had been awfully quiet in Wiltspoon.

Caroline fell silent for a bit before answering, “Zachary and Serenity’s wedding is around the corner,

and Liberty’s new restaurant just opened. I’m guessing Audrey doesn’t want to put a damper on

anybody’s plans.”

The DNA test results between Caroline and Audrey were out a long time ago. Though Audrey did not

inform Caroline of the results, Caroline could guess that they were cousins.

Darren replied, “Possibly. Are you attending Mr. York’s wedding?”

“The Yorks did not extend an invitation to the Fishers.”

The two families did not have a relationship.

Caroline would likely fight with her mother if she went to the wedding without an invitation, unless her

mother insisted on taking her anyway.

“I feel better, knowing that Serenity and Liberty are doing well in life.”

If Madam Fisher murdered her predecessor, Serenity and Liberty's mother could have suffered at her

hands and the Hunt sisters became collateral damage.novelbin

Caroline felt a little less guilty knowing that Audrey, Serenity, and Liberty were doing well now.

Darren was silent as he cruised on the road for a while. Once the car entered the driveway of Fishers’

residence, Darren suddenly asked, “Is Mr. Queen interested in you?”

Caroline seemed to run into Hayden frequently when Hayden’s suitors had no luck in meeting him by

chance.

It was either pure coincidence, or Hayden orchestrated the encounters.

Caroline said with a smile, “No way. Mr. Queen told me that he admires me, but he doesn’t see me

romantically. He warned me not to get any ideas about him, or the person to get hurt would be me.

“But I have to say that I admire Mr. Queen too,” Caroline admitted.

If Hayden had not told her how he felt, she might have developed feelings for him. After their honest

conversation, Caroline became more mindful of their friendship boundaries. She knew that she was not

the right person for him and that they were not meant to be together, whether or not she took over the

Fisher household.

“Mr. Queen is a brilliant man. He’s a handsome, rich, mature, and reliable heir to the Queen family. I

bet many young women in Jensburg will fall head over heels for him,”

Darren’s words carried a hint of jealousy.

Oblivious to his obscure feelings, Caroline responded with a grin, “I know, right. Mr. Queen is a catch.

All the girls are into him, but I’m not a girl anymore. I won’t plunge headfirst into a relationship.

“Celine is in love with Mr. Queen. A pity, though. Mr. Queen has never paid her any attention.”

Caroline applauded Hayden for his indifference to Celine’s advances.
