Chapter 2249
The mention of Sonny softened Duncan’s facial muscles. Duncan said to his mother, “I held Sonny to
sleep tonight. My heart just melted when I saw him settling down in my arms. The kid is cuter by thenovelbin
day, and I can’t help but grow fonder of him. I don’t expect him to call me Dad. It makes me happy
enough when he calls me Dunc.”
Hank was still alive. Even though Sonny was not close to his father, it did not change the fact that Hank
was his father.
In the past, Duncan would comfort Sonny, expressing his desire to be his stepdad. However, Sonny
said he already had a father and did not need another one. Sonny mentioned he was not greedy
enough to have two dads.
Sonny showed Duncan that the boy would never call him dad.
That was why Duncan would not ask for more. It was enough for Duncan if he could marry Liberty and
raise Sonny together with her. Sonny could call him Dunc since he did steal the boy’s mommy.
“Sonny is the most adorable thing. He is such a delight and a ball of sunshine to everybody around.”
Corey looked at her son and said, “We can’t force Sonny to call you Dad when you and Liberty get
together. His biological father is still around and paying for child support. We can’t just erase his
existence from Sonny’s life.
“If you and Liberty have a child, I can die happy.”
Corey had four sons, and three of them were married and had children. Her youngest son, however,
was the source of her worries.
She did not think Liberty was good enough for Duncan back then, so she did not give her blessing for
her son to be with Liberty.
Now, Corey was willing to accept Liberty, but Duncan was wheelchair-bound. The two young
individuals were far from committing to a relationship, and God knew when they could be together.
They were in their thirties, and by the time they would start dating and have a child together, Liberty
could be at high risk for pregnancy complications. If that was the case and judging by her son’s love for
Liberty, he would likely stop Liberty from having a child with him.
Corey could not bear the possibility that Duncan might not have a child of his own.
Duncan pursed his lips and replied, “Mom, that’s a matter for the future. Liberty and I are friends now.
We talk about work and life problems, but not love.”
Liberty and Duncan looked out for each other.
Nobody knew what the future held.
Corey sighed. “I’m a mother. I’m always on about children and grandchildren, but I was just saying
anyway. You have the freedom to make your own choices. I won’t interfere. It’s late. I’ll wheel you
upstairs, and you can get some rest.”
“Thanks, Mom.”
“Why are you acting like a stranger with your mom?”
Corey got up and held the wheelchair firmly so Duncan could get on it.
Once Duncan was seated securely, Corey wheeled him into the elevator.
Since Duncan’s accident, the Lewises installed an elevator in the house for Duncan’s accessibility to
the upper floors as he would be in a wheelchair for a while.
They arrived on the second floor.
“Mom, you should get some rest too. I can get back to my room. Good night.”
Corey hummed a response and gave Duncan a few pieces of advice, only returning to her room when
Duncan wheeled himself away.
She opened the door to find the bedroom brightly lit.
Her husband was somehow awake and leaning against the headboard while flipping through a
magazine. Corey knew Derek was not reading the magazine because he did not have his reading
glasses on.
