“I’m quite interested in Mr. and Mrs. Lafayette’s story.”
Serenity whispered, “Zachary would sometimes tell me a small part of it. Although he didn’t go into the
details, it always made me curious.”
Jane smiled and said, “I’m only familiar with the latter part of my parents’ story. I’m not clear about their
past. Whenever I asked my dad about it, he wouldn’t say anything. My mom would smile and say she
didn’t want to talk about it as it was a thing of the past.
“No matter what happened to them in the past, it’s great that they have a good relationship now.”
Jane knew her mother was unwilling to recall past events as her period of disappearance had been her
mother’s most painful days. Her mother had gone crazy for over twenty years because of that.
Although her biological father seemed cold, he had been holding himself back.
Anyway, her mother suffered a lot, and her father was not doing well either.
However, all the hardships had ended.
The Lafayette family had a bright future. Her parents had reconciled and her father even stepped down
as the head of the family. He dedicated all his time to accompanying her mother to make things up for
her.
As their daughter, Jane hoped her parents would live happily for the rest of their lives.
Therefore, she stopped asking about their past.
“You’re right. It’s great that they have a good relationship. If my parents were alive, they would’ve had a
close relationship too.”
Serenity envied Jane. Jane was much luckier than she was.
Not only did Jane have adopted parents who treated her as their biological daughter, but she also had
her birth parents. The Murphys and the Lafayettes had close ties now.
On the other hand, the closest family Serenity had was only her sister.
Jane held Serenity’s hand to comfort her in silence.
Serenity adjusted her emotions quickly.
She was a guest of FC Manor. It was best if she did not have sad emotions.
The lavish living area was filled with people.
The elders of the Johnson family were all present.
Serenity had met Jane’s biological parents once.
She greeted Mr. and Mrs. Lafayette.
Mrs. Lafayette had a kind smile. She waved at Serenity. “Seren, come and let me look at you.”
Serenity went forward with a smile.
Mrs. Lafayette held her hand. After a close observation, she said to her son-in-law’s parents. “Do you
think Seren has gotten thinner?”
“She has.”
Antonia nodded. She asked Serenity out of concern, “Have you been busy these days?”
“Yes. It’s been quite hectic.”
Antonia could understand Serenity’s pressure as she used to be the Johnson family’s missus. She
patted the back of Serenity’s hand and consoled her, “Take it slow.”
Mrs. Lafayette asked many questions about Serenity’s recent life. Although it was only her second time
meeting Serenity, she felt sorry for the child, who was almost her daughter’s age.novelbin
Jane deliberately spoke in a jealous tone, “Mom, you’re only talking to Serenity. You don’t even want
your daughter anymore.”
“I love you both.”
Mrs. Lafayette pulled her Jane toward herself with a grin.
At that moment, the two babies in the crib woke up.
As usual, Connor cried loudly the moment he woke up. He kicked the blanket away with his shorts legs.
His hands moved around as if trying to catch something.
In short, he would start “dancing” whenever he cried.
Although Chloe, who was beside him, would also kick her blanket, she usually did not cry.
Most of the time, she would turn to stare at her brother, who put in all his effort in “performing” to attract
the adults to carry them.
When Mrs. Lafayette heard her grandchild crying, she immediately went to carry the child even though
she was talking to Jane and Serenity.
