Chapter 2021

When Serena heard what Cindy said, she let out a laugh. However, it was evident that Serena agreedwith Cindy. "Honestly, I don't think the staff members gain anything from gossiping among each other. They only make themselves look like a nuisance."

Cindy nodded. "Yeah, I agree. I used to work as Ian's assistant, so I know how fake people can get."Serena seemed to relate to her statement. "Yeah. Human relationships are the toughest thing to dealwith. Well, since you're being so understanding, then I guess I won't have to say anything else. You canleave now. You can contact me if you need anything."

When Cindy walked out of Serena's office, she could feel her colleagues staring at her with fearfulgazes. They're probably afraid of me, huh? The one person who provoked me quit her job after Serenacame back, so they're probably associating me with her resignation. Well, I guess it's a good thing. They say that it's lonely being at the top, but at least I get a better view at the top. Furthermore, thesepeople won't bother me if they perceive themselves as below me.

Even though Julia being fired was her own doing, Cindy didn't want to explain this to anyone. She didn'tmind being ostracized if it meant that no one would provoke her from then onward. For some reason,Cindy felt as if she had been promoted, and she even felt oddly proud about it.

Serena walked out of her office when it was nearing the end of the afternoon shift. She handed Cindy acopy of the documents that Cindy had 'misplaced' previously. As Cindy went through the papers, shecould tell that Serena had gathered some extra information for her, probably as a form ofcompensation. The people around them didn't know what was going on, so they assumed that Serenawas secretly giving Cindy some additional resources and tips. Things are different when you'resomeone with status and power, huh? But regardless of how uneasy they felt, none of them dared toreveal it on their faces.

This time, Cindy no longer dared to leave her documents in the office. When it came to the end of hershift, she placed the documents into her bag before leaving the company. As she walked out of theoffice, she gave Ian a call. In an indirect manner, she asked Ian if he was in his room. "I'm with thedriver," he replied in a flat tone.

"Are there any ladies in there?"she asked again.

He laughed. "The lady left just a while ago. You're a little too late. If you called a little earlier, I couldhave gotten her to chat with you for a while."

Cindy wasn't sure if he was being serious, so all she could do was scoff. "I'll crush you if I catch youred-handed," she hissed.

"I'll try my best not to be caught," he mumbled. They continued chatting until Cindy's cab dropped herhome. After she ended the call, she unlocked her front door to let herself into an empty house. Shedidn't enjoy the feeling of returning to an empty house every day. She didn't have the mood to preparea meal for herself, so she simply went back to her room to lie on her bed.

On the other end, Ian lowered his phone as he sighed and threw his phone aside. Cindy's question hadbeen on point—a lady had indeed left his room just a while ago, and she had indeed been there forhim.

Sitting on the extra bed, the driver swung his legs back and forth. "Yulia seems rather different frombefore."

"How so?" Ian turned to look at him. novelbin

The driver licked his lips and hesitated for a moment. "She looks rather different. Even her personalityseems to have changed."

"Tell me more. Do you think she changed for the better or worse?" Ian adjusted his body to lean againstthe headboard.

The driver struggled to describe Yulia's change. "She seems a little gentler and warmer than before.Didn't you notice that her voice sounded softer? It seemed like she was a little more considerate andkind." The driver paused for a moment before proceeding to talk about her appearance. "She looks likeshe lost some weight, and she doesn't dress up as much as she used to. I could barely recognize herwhen she first walked in."

Ian thought about it for a moment. I guess so. I'm not too sure.
