Chapter 1503

I nodded. After hesitating a little, I asked, "Did Ian come to Jarold City with you? I haven't been ableto get in touch with him. Did he change his phone number?"

He froze hearing Ian's name. He answered stiffly, "I am not sure. I haven't contacted him in a longtime. Perhaps... he had gone to Mesville. After all, he is familiar with that place."

Something was wrong. I frowned. "Did you and Ian have a fight? What happened?"

He seemed dazed and shook his head in response. "No, we are fine. Don't overthink this. Wehaven't been in touch for such a long time now, how are you? Mom said that Anne had been ill forquite a while. How is she doing now?"

Something must be wrong!

Ian and Sawyer had taken care of Anne together for a long time. If she was merely a child of hisfriend, he might just ask casually. But Anne was different. Ian and Sawyer treated Anne like theirown daughter. Why did he ask about her so casually? It didn't seem right!

I stared at him and answered, "Sawyer, I understand that whatever happens between you and Ian isbetween you two. But as a friend of Ian as well as your sister, I can't pretend nothing is wrong. Whathappened to you and Ian? Do you know what Anne had been diagnosed with? She almost diedfrom acute leukemia! I have no idea what happened between you and Ian. I couldn't get through toboth of you, neither through phone nor text. If you still think of me as a friend, no matter what hadhappened, tell me. I don't believe that you two will act this cold-hearted towards Anne, even whenshe was nearly on her deathbed."

Hearing about Anne's illness, he was stupefied for a moment. Obviously, he was shocked. Itseemed that Valerie had never told him about Anne's condition in detail. He had been totally in thedark.

He was silent for a while. Then, he questioned, "How's Anne at this moment? Is she doing better?"

I nodded and said, "She is better now after undergoing a bone marrow and kidney transplant, butthere is still an observation period of five years. She will be fine if there is no relapse. If there is arelapse, a second transplant might be needed. But enough about Anne. What happened betweenyou and Ian?"

He clenched his fists, seemingly overwhelmed. After a long time, he uttered, "He impregnated awoman in a bar and returned to Mesville to be with her until she gave birth."

I was shocked by this news. I hesitated before finally saying, "What was the exact relationshipbetween you and him? You have feelings for him, don't you?"

He pursed his lips and glanced at me. "Are you looking down on me because of this?"

I shook my head immediately and disagreed, "No, every relationship in the world is pure. I don't lookdown on any relationships at all. Sawyer, I asked because I have known since a long time ago thatyou and Ian were different. I think you really care about each other. I'm asking because I can'tunderstand why you two separated despite you obviously caring so much about each other. Ofcourse, every relationship has fights and misunderstandings. I can understand the decisions theboth of you made. I just want to remind you that no matter what choice you made, just make surethat you won't regret it."novelbin

He lowered his head and replied, "Simply returning to normal life will be good for the both of us. Youknow, we don't have to be together to be happy; we can be happy on our own."
