Chapter 1492

Hendrix looked at Jarred and asked, "Have the Miltons agreed to this marriage?"

Jarred was a refined man, calm and introverted. Hearing his words, he just replied lightly, "This isbetween Nerissa and me. The Milton family doesn't need to intervene."novelbin

Milton family?

There were only a few families who went by Milton in Jarold City. Was it the Milton family that I wasthinking of?

Hendrix's lips curled, but I could not see any emotion on his face. He said, "Let's wait till after theNew Year. It's too early to make a decision now."

Nerissa was as baffled as me by this exchange. She said doubtfully, "Hendrix, what are you talkingabout? There's nothing unreasonable between me and Mr. Milton. I thought you wouldn't object. What's wrong?"

"Arianna and I still have things to take care of. Let's talk about this again after the New Year. AuntNerissa, you should find out more about which Milton family you're marrying into. It might be goodfor you to learn more about the situation," Hendrix replied curtly. He didn't seem to want to sayanything more and dragged me away from the scene.

In the car, I suggested, "Let's go to the pet store and buy Carney a Golden Retriever. He should behappy to have a furry friend to play with."

He nodded and started the car.

After driving for a while, I looked at him uncertainly before asking, "Hendrix, Jarred is from theMilton family, right?"

He grunted in agreement, his eyes still fixed on the road. I hesitated and asked, "Did you just findout or have you known since the beginning?"

The Milton Family had always kept a low profile. It was said that they had many children. Sebastianwas just one of the many descendants of the Milton Family. The other members of the Milton Familyrarely appeared in public.

Hendrix explained as he drove, "There are many descendants of the Milton family, but there is onlyone person who really controls the family's economic lifeline. Sebastian is not the biologicalgrandson of Master Milton. Master Milton has three sons. All three of them are not with the MiltonGroup and his direct descendants all have different interests and careers outside of business.Jarred is the third son of Master Milton.

He loves literature very much, and has spent all his energy and time on literature and art since hewas a child."

"What about Sebastian..." I asked.

"He is the grandson of Master Milton's elder brother. As he is keen on making money by doingbusiness, he was elected as the successor of the Milton family business. However, Sebastian is toogreedy and obsessed with making money, which has brought the Milton family much trouble. Therefore, the Miltons are not as prosperous as before," Hendrix continued explaining.

It turned out to be so. In a big family, not every child had a talent for business. Some liked art, someliked research, and others just wanted to enjoy their lives. If they wanted to continue the legacy, they had to find a child who could make the family flourish by running the family business. However,Sebastian was too overcome by greed.

Human nature was never completely black or white. It was dangerous to be on either end of theextremes. Sebastian's natural instinct to plunder was too strong, and so, handing control of the

Milton family business over to him had not turned out as well as people imagined.

"But in this case, the marriage between Aunt Nerissa and Mr. Milton should not have any impact. After all, Mr. Milton does not participate in the power struggles of the Milton family," I said.

He looked at me and laughed. He said, "Silly girl, it's not enough for a family to thrive and prosperby only relying on one person. Everyone in the family has to work hard together. If the Milton familydoes not face any big trouble and have no opponents, naturally they will not interfere with eachother. But if something happens to them, they would definitely prioritize family. They will use all theirabilities and resources to turn the tide and inject strength into the family again. It's the same as acountry. When it's safe, we will not interfere with each other. But when it comes to life and death, weneed to unite and each contribute a little bit of our own strength to our country."
