I was startled and didn't understand what he meant. I narrowed my eyes and asked, "Why are yougoing to Asherton?"
His lips curled into a sneer, and his eyes were filled with murderous intent. Even though he had triedto hide it, I was still able to see it easily.
"Our child can't be sacrificed for nothing," he answered.
I was surprised. I realized that he was about to avenge our lost child and take action againstSebastian. After a moment of hesitation, I asked, "Can I come with you?"
He smirked and asked in a questioning tone, "Are you coming with me because you're sad to seeme go?"
I nodded, smiled and replied, "Well, that's the general idea. So? Can I go with you?"
I couldn't sleep well every night, knowing that Sebastian was out there somewhere, having gottenoff scot-free. He had to pay. It was the same for everyone, I believed. Although we knew that it wasbest to live our lives in peace, there would always be things that couldn't be let go of that easily. Itwas better to settle this quickly, once and for all.
Hendrix finally agreed to let me go with him.
Austin was obviously still mad at me. He had left with Phoebe without even having the meal. He justleft after telling Hendrix the tentative date of their wedding. It seemed that the marriage wasconfirmed.
Aaron and Emma were two weird people, in their own ways. I thought it was impossible for the twoof them to work out, but I didn't expect that before leaving, they would exchange contacts and makeplans to have dinner at the Reid's that night. Surprisingly, Aaron invited me and Hendrix as well. He
wanted to celebrate Carney's first birthday. However, he didn't intend to make a big fuss about thecelebration. Just a small family gathering was sufficient, he said.
Since it was Carney's birthday, Yana and Ethan would probably be there too. I knew Yana hadmoved on; however, I wondered what Aaron's intention was, inviting Emma to join us.
After leaving the restaurant, Hendrix cleared the rest of his day and went shopping with me. Since itwas Carney's birthday, it made sense to bring along a present.novelbin
After browsing through the options available, Hendrix picked out a Transformers robot that he knewchildren liked. He also ordered a customized black sports car. Children liked sports cars. The Reidshad a large courtyard where Carney could drive the car around.
After confirming our order, we ran into someone familiar again. It was Nerissa, who was with theprofessor we had met in the restaurant previously, Jarred.
Since we had met once before, it wasn't awkward for us to bump into each other. Nerissa greetedus with a faint smile and said, "It's rare to see you and Hendrix at a shopping mall. Are you here tobuy something?"
Hendrix nodded. It was obvious that he had nothing much to say.
He stared at Jarred with his dark eyes, seemingly trying to send some deep, unknown messagethrough eye contact. I never understood the mannerisms between men, so I chose to ignore them.
Nerissa looked at me. I didn't know if I was mistaken, but I kept noticing her gaze falling on my belly.
"I'm busy these days and it's going to be New Years soon. I'm thinking that we should all go back toUcrebury to spend the New Years together. Hendrix, your uncle and aunt are getting old and haveno children. You're usually busy with your work and barely visit them. Now it's the end of the year.Let's go back together to visit them. I think it's been quite a long time since you last visited."
It was Nerissa speaking. Hendrix nodded and didn't have any comment. He simply said, "We'll see."
Nerissa nodded. After hesitating for a moment, she said, "Hendrix, Mr. Milton and I have decided toget married. Do you have any opinion about this? We are getting old and we want to enjoy theremainder of our days together. You..."
