Chapter 1493

He was right!

When it really came down to life and death, unity would be necessary. Once the Roberts Group tookaction against Sebastian, they would become opponents.

In the pet store.

I bought a one-month-old little Golden Retriever puppy, which was as small as my palm. The shopassistant gave me some dog food and dog toys. It looked tiny, and I had no clue how to care for it.Fortunately, the shop assistant had prepared a list of instructions for me to follow. If things didn'twork out, I could come back to the pet store again to ask.

It was already a little late by the time we were done. I gave the address to the shop assistant andasked her to send the puppy to the Reid family home. Hendrix and I were going to the hospital tovisit Anne. She was done with her medical check-up and could return home tonight. Valerie hadbeen busy with the company's affairs recently, and had little time to spare at the moment, so shearranged for a nanny to care for Anne.

Anne had to go back to the Moore family home tonight, so Hendrix needed to pick her up.

In the hospital.

After a long day of walking, my legs were really sore, so I waited downstairs in the lobby whileHendrix headed up to get Anne.novelbin

I didn't expect to see Chloe again. It seemed that she was seriously ill. She stumbled through theentrance and collapsed to the ground as soon as she stepped foot in the hospital. Fortunately, several nurses caught sight of her and brought her into the emergency room.

Out of curiosity, I followed them.

Standing at the door of the emergency room, I asked the nurse who came out, "Hello, I want to ask,how is she? What's wrong with her? Why does it look so serious?"

The nurse who was holding the medical equipment in her hand answered, "It's lung cancer. Howcan that not be serious? Her condition is deteriorating. She has been asked to get treatment a longtime ago, but she brushed it off. Now, it's gotten so much worse than before. Some people just don'tseem to take their lives seriously."

I was shocked and asked, "Lung cancer? How did she get lung cancer? What's going on?"Generally, people who got lung cancer had spent extended periods of time in chemical factories, and the cancer was a result of the toxic environment. However, Chloe had always led a comfortablelife. How did she end up getting cancer?

The nurse was probably in a hurry to leave and just said, "It's caused by a chronic respiratoryinfection, probably due to long-term contact with chemical substances in a factory or chemical plant. Are you her friend? Please persuade her to go for chemotherapy. Ask her to get treatment as soonas possible, otherwise the consequences will be dire."

I nodded and stared blankly at the nurse as she walked away. I was a little absent-minded. Whywould Chloe get lung cancer? It wasn't easy to believe.

Hendrix called to ask where I had gone. I was stunned for a moment before I hurried down thestairs and headed to the lobby. He had already taken Anne to the car. When he saw me comingdownstairs, he approached me and asked, "What's wrong? Didn't I ask you to wait for me in thelobby?"

I walked over to him and replied, "I ran into someone I know just now, so I stopped for a chat. Let'sgo. We have to go to Uncle Charles' place tonight!"

In the car, Anne held onto me tightly. She had gotten much thinner due to the chemotherapytreatment. I could feel the bones underneath her skin as I held her. "Mom, are you going on abusiness trip? Can you take me with you this time? I want to be with you. I don't want to stay herealone. You've been very busy these days and don't even have time to visit me. Don't you miss me?"

It was child's talk. I caressed her bald head and replied gently. "Anne, of course I miss you! It's justthat I am still busy with some urgent matters. Once I'm done with everything, we will stay with you inJarold City, is that okay?"

Her little face pouted miserably in response. However, she could only nod her head in agreement. When we arrived at the Moore villa, the nanny took Anne in while Hendrix and I made our way tothe Reid family home.

In the car, I looked at Hendrix and asked hesitantly, "Hendrix, will Josiah be released from prisonearly?"

Hendrix was startled that I would mention him out of the blue. He looked at me and asked, "Why doyou mention him all of a sudden? What's wrong?"
