“Mr. Pendleton, Esther and I are just friends,” Jasper insisted. “I did confess my feelings once, but sheturned me down. We agreed to remain friends. You don’t need to interfere. Esther, let’s go.”
While defending Esther, Jasper’s eyes showed sympathy. He couldn’t stand to see Chadwick usingBradley’s life to threaten her.
He escorted Esther back to the car, started the engine, and prepared to drive away.
“Mr. Pendleton, please move your car.”
Chadwick and Jasper faced off in silence.
Chadwick sighed and looked at Esther in the passenger seat. He spoke calmly. “Esther, I’ll be waitingfor you here.”
