Chapter 769 Suspicions Arise

Sean nodded vigorously. "Of course, don't you know what kind of person I am?"

Preston didn't answer that question. Instead, he stared at Sean's eyes and asked each word carefully,

"Why did Ayan suddenly take you away? You have no connection with him whatsoever. This is

something I can't understand no matter how hard I try. He always comes directly to me if he has any

dissatisfaction with me. You're just my secretary; he wouldn't lay a hand on you."

This was the main reason Preston couldn't figure out for so many days.

In his eyes, Ayan and the Simpson family were very cunning and scheming, but he had a basic

understanding of Ayan as a person. If Ayan had reached the point where he needed to lock someone

up, then naturally he would come straight for Preston instead of choosing Sean.

Furthermore, Ayan didn't even know what Preston was planning to do now. So this made no sense at

all. Even if Ayan locked him up somewhere else, could Ayan be 100% sure there wasn't anyone behind

him? novelbin

So there must be some reason why Ayan singled out Sean like this. He couldn't have been clueless

like that.

Did Sean do something that touched on one of Ayan's bottom lines?

The more Preston thought about it, the more gloomy his expression became, and his gaze turned cold

as well; his indifference was evident in his eyes.

He said to Sean: "Are you hiding something from me?"

Sean shook his head immediately, denying any wrongdoing: "No way! How could I hide anything from

you? As for what exactly is going on with Ayan... I don't know either because isn't that just how he

always is? Maybe coming after me is just a warning shot towards you since I'm your guy and not

wanting to challenge you directly."

Sean sounded too anxious, which caused him to speak incoherently.

Although Elijah was Sean's father while being Preston's uncle, in front of Preston, Sean always felt like

an employee under leadership which led him to have an innate fear towards Preston. Even though they

were cousins, in these many years they never addressed each other using brotherly terms.

This wasn't allowed by Preston, because once it becomes habitual, then there will be flaws exposed in

front of others. He absolutely wouldn't allow such situation happen again .

Preston didn't respond to Sean's words. As for anything else, he didn't continue speaking and just

looked at Sean with little expression. "It's getting late, and you just got back. Stay here tonight. I don't

think you should continue living in your apartment either. Rest for two days and find a new place."

Sean breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that Preston wasn't going to ask any more questions. He

said goodnight and quickly went back to his guest room.

He had stayed here before, so he didn't feel too uncomfortable.

Once Sean was back in his room, he let out a deep breath as he looked at the night sky outside.

However, there was still some unease in his heart.

Although he had told Preston everything that Ayan had asked him about their relationship, there were

two key things that Sean hadn't mentioned: he had told Ayan about their blood ties and Ayan threated

him with Elijah.

Sean avoided these topics without drawing attention to it, but Preston didn't ask further questions which

left Sean wondering if Preston hadn't thought about it or if he simply chose not to mention it.

So now Sean felt uneasy about this situation and planned on taking some time off within the next

couple of days to visit the prison.

Meanwhile, one wall away from where Sean slept lay Preston's master bedroom.

Preston stood by the window without any sleepiness showing on his face, instead an indifferent

expression floated across it as if questioning whether or not everything that Sean said could be trusted

entirely.

He squinted slightly then took out his phone from his pocket before dialing up someone's number.

What exactly did he say over the phone? No one knows except him, but gradually an icy chill began

emanating from him while darkening his facial features even more than before; almost like something

sinister was brewing inside of him all along.

This night was destined to be an extraordinary night. Preston did not fall asleep until after midnight. He

had many things on his mind, and the more he thought about it, the heavier it became.

Some things had passed for many years, but the memory buried in his heart became clearer and

clearer. He had not been in Hance City for just a day or two, nor had he just met Ayan recently.

Sooner or later, it will have to be solved, sooner or later will have to face that day. He prepared for so

many years, waiting for the arrival of this day.

Preston narrowed down both eyes while coldness enveloped them completely; beside him lay an

ashtray filled with cigarette butts emitting thick smoke throughout the entire bedroom. Maybe only this

could help calm down such intense emotions running rampant inside.

Ayan, if everything comes out into open daylight, will you still remain free-spirited like now? He silently

questioned, knowing full well what answer awaited ahead…

The night passed by uneventfully until early morning when Sean woke up feeling refreshed after getting

enough rest.

Preston had slept late last night, and there was no movement of him at the moment. Sean waited in the

living room for a while, but he never saw Preston come out. So he got up and left Preston's place.

He took a taxi directly to his own residence after leaving the building. He naturally remembered what

Preston had said to him last night.

He quickly found an agent to help him find a new place to live and eventually rented an apartment not

far from Preston's at twice the price. Then he quickly packed his things and moved in.

By the time Sean finished all of this, it was already past noon. Since Preston still hadn't contacted him

yet, Sean didn't bother him either. Instead, he packed some take-out food and went back to his newly

rented apartment.

As soon as he returned home, someone rang his doorbell outside.

When he opened the door and saw who was standing there, he froze completely. He instinctively

wanted to close the door, but it didn't happen as planned.

He asked with some emotional excitement: "What do you want? Didn't you promise me that you would

let me go? Why are you coming here again? If you keep doing this, then sooner or later Preston will

become suspicious of me."

Kian ignored what Sean said completely and walked straight into his residence instead. He looked

around before speaking slowly: "Mr. Simpson asked me to give you a message. If anything happens

between Simpson family or Simpson Group is caused by Preston, then it is best if you tell us

beforehand; otherwise Mr. Simpson cannot guarantee that something won't happen out of anger on his

part. Do you understand?"

"Ayan isn't capable enough? Then why use me?" Sean retorted back.

Kian just smiled faintly before saying: "Mr. Simpson arranges things however they want them done. If

you don't cooperate, I can guarantee that by tomorrow at this time we won't be talking to each other

here anymore. Do you believe me?"

Kian's threat made Sean immediately silent; although his face remained cold like ice as he stared at

Kian without making any other movements.

Seeing this, Kian continued on: "You don't need to be too nervous or too anxious about anything. Mr.

Simpson said they wouldn't harm you, so they won't harm you . We came today just to avoid running

into Preston, so rest assured that nothing will happen unless YOU reveal something about yourself.

Okay?"

Kian walked over to the couch and sat down, his gaze falling on Sean's phone on the coffee table.

Sean also walked over and sat where they had just eaten, his face remaining serious and somber. All

of his thoughts were focused on his nervousness, so he didn't even notice what Kian was doing.

Kian continued to say many comforting words to Sean, ensuring that their meeting would not be known

by Preston. He also told Sean not to worry too much because being too nervous would only make

things worse and cause more tension. This could lead Preston to become suspicious.

Just as Sean was caught off guard, Kian took advantage of taking a tissue from the table and swiftly

grabbed Sean's phone before standing up and saying: "I'll borrow your bathroom for a moment."

Sean hesitated for a moment but then pointed in the direction of the bathroom. Kian nodded in

response before giving a subtle signal to the bodyguard standing nearby. Then he turned around and

headed towards the bathroom with Sean's phone in hand.
