Chapter 268

Chapter 268

Elena

“Come on, just work along for once!” Tori scolded me as she forced her nose underneath my armpits.

I could hardly believe that I was just an hour away from meeting the potential love of my life, Marvin. Itwas already surprising that a goody-two-shoes like me was able to look past all the charges so that Icould be with him.

What if he would bail on me?

What if this was just one of his stupid jokes?

“You smell like roses. Let’s keep it that way.” Tori smiled as she placed her hands on my shoulder. Shehad stopped by my house to do my makeup because apparently. I sucked at it. Usually, I wouldcomplain, but this time I didn’t mind it at all.

I wanted to look good for Marvin, and I wanted to show him that I was the exact person from thepictures. “Will you be able to do this on your own tomorrow?” Victoria asked.

I gave her a confident nod. “For the wedding? Yes, of course.”

The wedding was the least important thing on my mind as all I could think of was Marvin. It was a goodthing that my dad and my brother weren’t at home today because I was not in the mood for anyquestions.

What would I even tell them?

Oh, no big deal. I’m just going out to meet my former criminal crush, but don’t you guys worry-he saidhe was wrongfully convicted.

“Can I see one last picture of him?” Tori almost begged me. “I just want to see if this Marvin is worth the

effort.”

I rolled my eyes with a slight smirk on my face and pulled out my phone. Marvin was a catch, and I hadno problem showing him off. I showed Tori the picture and watched as she squinted her eyes. “Yes,he’s definitely worth the effort.” She chuckled.

“He looks familiar…it’s almost as if I’ve seen him before.”

“Well, unless you’ve been to prison-I honestly don’t think that’s the case.” I laughed at her crazycomment. Besides that, there weren’t any people like him. The only person who even came close wasone of our clients, Santiago-and he was getting married.

“Anyway, I really have to go.” Victoria hugged me. “My dad and I have to visit this guy we have todefend, and you have a date to get to.”

“It’s not a date.” I blushed. “And you should go because I have this really bad stress poop, and thehouse won’t be safe for a couple of hours.”

“Gosh.” Victoria pulled a disgusted face. “Please make sure not to mention any of this stuff to Marvin, and please try to behave more…human.”

“But pooping is human!”

“Yes, I’m just going to leave,” Victoria spoke in a hurry. It wasn’t long before she left the house while Iwent to take a dump. I was very serious about my visit to the toilet, and it was necessary. The worstthing I could do was a fart in Marvin’s presence.

After a short drive, I was at the bridge just as he requested. Okay, I wasn’t exactly on the bridge, but Ihad my reasons for that. I wanted to see Marvin first and make sure he wasn’t the one who had beencat- fishing me, so I knelt behind a nearby stone and waited for the time to pass.

I felt my heart rise at every person who walked the bridge and could almost jump out of joy after theycontinued walking. It was a good sign and proof of my hope that Marvin wasn’t a catfish.

“Come on, where are you.” I let out a huff and closed my eyes, but everything had changed when Iopened them. I noticed a man from a distance and knew immediately that it was the person I had beenwaiting for.

Marvin…

“Un-fucking-believable!” I slammed my hands in front of my mouth and raised my head a little, so Icould take another peek at him, Marvin.

My legs felt numb, and I could not find the power or the courage to walk up to him. He was literallythere, and I couldn’t do it.

I came here with a clear mind and was so confident to walk up to him, but seeing him in real life wasdifferent. He looked just like in the pictures, or no-who was I kidding? He seemed even morehandsome than he did in the pictures.

My eyes couldn’t look away from his curly dark hair and his sharp jawline. I could only see him from theside, but even then, I couldn’t miss his plump lips. He wore a T-shirt, revealing his toned arms and hissleeve tattoo.

This was him, Marvin.

Prison? Forget about that damn prison. I felt terrible for thinking this way because this guy had a longlist of serious crimes and was supposed to stay in prison for his entire life-but there was no way in hell Iwould let someone like this go. He said he was innocent, right?

Well, if that was the case, I was going to marry this man.

First, I had to see if he was willing to marry me, but I was definitely up for it. I laughed at my ownenthusiasm and fixed the ruffles of my jumpsuit as I prepared myself to make my way over to him.

Should I just walk up to him?

Call out his name?

Give him a tap on his shoulder?

While I was thinking of different ways to greet him, a man walked up to the bridge and raised his handat Marvin. I could only see this man’s back but could sense he was most likely his friend. The letterdidn’t

mention anything about a double date?

The man gave Marvin a nudge against his shoulder. “Hi, boss!” He greeted him. Was that hisnickname, or was Marvin a CEO? Being a CEO despite being locked up in prison was very impressive.

“Come on.” I desperately whispered as I waited for his friend to turn around so I could see whatever hehad to offer. I heard Marvin laugh at the man, and my heart nearly melted. I had yet to hear his voice, but I already knew it was going to sound just as I had imagined. Attractive and powerful.

“I thought I told you to keep your distance,” Marvin spoke for the first time. It turned out I was right. Hisvoice sounded like my monthly paycheck. It sounded like heaven. He had a deep voice, but he

somehow. still managed to sound kind and warm.

“Nah, I think I’ll pass.” The other man spoke. “I want to see this Lena of yours.”

Lena of yours? Did he claim me as his already?

I let out a cocky chuckle, which was definitely deserved. I was glad we were on the same page aboutour feelings. I was going to marry this man. My dad and Alex would probably cut me in half once I’dintroduce him to them, but they would have to live with it.

The other man stretched out his arm and was just about to turn around, but before he could, Marvingave him a push against his back. “Alright, boss, Til leave you alone.” The mysterious man laughed.

He walked off with his back turned to me while I mentally slapped Marvin for denying me theopportunity to see his friend. Marvin took a deep breath and glanced at his watch while I pulled out myphone to look at the time.

It was already over time, but I didn’t have it in me to approach him. Things would’ve been so muchbetter if I was the one to show up first. I mean-how did you even greet someone?

“Yo, what’s up? I’m the Lena you’ve been talking to.

‘It’s so good to see you out of prison!”

‘Hello, so you’re not a catfish after all

What should I do?

“Just go out there and greet the guy, Elena,” I spoke some sense into myself. All I had to do was go outthere.novelbin

I took the perfect opportunity when Marvin turned his back towards me and walked as fast as possiblewhile I tried my hardest not to make a single sound. It was kind of hard to do so with these ridiculouslylong heels, but I somehow managed to do it..

I made my way forward, and before I knew it, there were only as many as an inch of space between us.I felt like throwing up and still had no idea how to approach him. Should I tap him on his back?

Before I even realized what I was doing. I cleared my throat. For a second, it seemed like the time wasstanding still as Marvin had slowly turned around and stared right into my eyes with his nerve-racking

gaze.

He was perfect.
