Chapter 404 Change My Dressing

While they were talking. Daphne’s face suddenly changed. She abruptly stood up and exclaimed,“What are you doing here?”

When Lysander looked up, she saw a familiar figure.

However, she was far from her usual commanding and condescending self. She was drenched fromhead to toe, draped in a white bath towel. Her wet hair clung to her scalp, making her look quitedisheveled.

“I’m here to see my mom.”

Daphne didn’t even try to hide her displeasure with her. “Where were you earlier? Your mom washospitalized, and it was Lysander and Mr. Thorne who took turns to look after her. Have you beenhiding at home, enjoying yourself?”

Tears welled up in Lysanne’s eyes. “It’s not that I didn’t want to come; it’s just that…”

“What? Your legs are your own. Who could possibly stop you if you decided to come? Were you tied upor locked away?”

“I-”

“Lysanne.”

Josiah appeared right then.

He also spotted Daphne and Lysander, and his face contorted. “Daphne, did you come to seeLysander?”

Daphne’s eyes darted back and forth between him and Lysanne a few times before she suddenly burstinto laughter. “Mr. Guerra, please don’t address me so familiarly. I wouldn’t want people to accuse meof trying to cozy up to the illustrious Guerra family. You should just call me Ms. Everhart.”

Josiah was holding a bag of medicine in his hand. It seemed that he had just collected it.

Daphne gave a quick glance. “Is it Mrs. Thorne’s medicine? Thanks for making the trip, Mr. Guerra.Hand it over to me, please.”

No sooner had Daphne reached out her hand than it was gently brushed aside.

Lysander drew her hand back. “Someone will deliver Molly’s medicine.”

Daphne picked up on the underlying message. She glanced at the soaking–wet Lysanne, raised aneyebrow, and asked “I see. So, you went to fetch medicine for Ms. Lysanne, didn’t you, Mr. Guerra?”

Josiah raised his hand slightly, passing the medicine to Lysanne. “Take this and head back to the wardfirst.”

“Josiah, I’m worried about Mom. I want to see her…”

“Then you should go check on Mrs. Thorne.” Josiah extended his hand to grasp Lysander’s. “Lysander, something urgent happened last night and I didn’t get a chance to explain it to you. Let’s go to your

office…

“Hey, hey, hey, what are you doing? Don’t get handsy” Daphne shielded Lysander behind her. “Just use

Josiah studied Daphne for a moment, then turned his attention back to Lysander. “All right, then I’ll sayit

“Last night, I got a call from my mom. The Thorne manor had caught fire. Both our houses were builtentirely of wood, so you can imagine the disaster once it started burning. Plus, you know my mom hashigh blood pressure, and I was worried the shock would affect her, so I rushed back immediately. Iplanned to contact you once everything was sorted out, but the fire was so intense, it wasn’t put outuntil early morning. The police showed up too, asking my mom and Lynne to go to the station toprovide information to help determine the cause of the fire, which delayed things even further.”

After a moment of contemplation, Lysander asked, “Is Madam Susan doing well?”

“She’s fine. Just got a bit startled.”

Lysander nodded slightly, turning to Lysanne. “Did you suffer from a burn?”

Josiah pursed his lips, remaining silent.

Lysanne replied gently. “There are minor burns on my arm and chest. The doctor has prescribed somemedication.”

“The ones Mr. Guerra collected for you?”

“Yes.” Lysanne nodded. “Dr. Thorne, don’t get the wrong idea. Josiah was actually planning to give methe medicine and then rush back to you immediately. It was my own worry for Mom that made me wantto come over. This caused him to take an unnecessary detour and wasted some time.”

Lysander chuckled. “No worries. It’s all thanks to this unnecessary detour; otherwise, I wouldn’t havehad the chance to meet with Mr. Guerra.”

Lysanne said, “Dr. Thome, I hope you’re not upset.”

“Why would I be upset? Mom just went to sleep after finishing her meal. If you want to see her, keepyour voice down. Don’t wake her up.”

“Mom’s asleep? Then never mind, I won’t go in. If I disturbed her rest, it would be my fault.” Lysanneturned to Josiah. “Josiah, you don’t need to worry about me. I can go back to my ward by myself. Youshould explain things to Dr. Thorne properly, so there’s no misunderstanding because of me.”

She then gave Daphne a look. “Ms. Everhart, shall we leave together? Let’s give them some alonetime.”

Daphne crossed her arms and studied her, laughing at her words. “Stop pretending. I haven’t forgottenhow Lysander was nearly burnt to death back then. Are you playing the innocent now?”

“I was bewitched back then. I-

“That’s enough. I don’t care who bewitched you. You attempted murder. Just you wait. I’ll get a lawyerand make sure you’re behind bars. And don’t even mention your parents. Even if God himself showedup, you’d still have to face the music!”

Daphne’s voice grew louder as she spoke.

However, within the hospital, especially at the entrance of the wards, maintaining silence was crucial.

Lysander was just about to caution Daphne when hy wrist was suddenly seized and she was led away.

Josiah didn’t take her to her office instead, he found a nearby staircase. After leading her in, hepromptly closed the door behind them.

“What I just said is the truth. There’s nothing going on between Lysanne and me.”

Lysander nodded. “I believe you.”

Josiah let out a slight sigh. “Your parents, I mean Mr. and Mrs. Thorne, asked me to promise to takecare of Lysanne. The fire incident happened abruptly and Lysanne did get burned. I brought my momand her to the hospital. I only got her medicine because she didn’t bring any money. I helped pay thefee and picked up the medicine for her. That’s pretty much what happened.”

“I’ve told you, I believe you.”

Josiah took a deep breath and calmed down considerably. “Daphne just mentioned she intends to sueLysanne in court. Is this your idea?”

“So what if it is, and what if it isn’t?”

“If that’s what you wish for, it’s completely understandable. After all, you’re the victim here. It’s only rightfor you to seek justice through the law. I’ll help you find a lawyer.”

“Haven’t you promised the old couple to take care of Lysanne? If I do send Lysanne to jail, how will youexplain it to them?”

Josiah slightly furrowed his brows. “I’ll arrange things to lessen her suffering inside

“Let’s discuss this matter later. At the very least, we should wait until Molly wakes up. I’m worried thatshe might faint again if she hears this news before she’s fully recovered.”

“All right.”

“You brought me here just to tell me this?”

Josiah finally showed a hint of concern in his gaze. He looked her up and down. “You still look a bitworn out I’ll have Ms. Collins come pick you up later to take you back to the resort for some rest. I’llstay here with Mrs. Thorne in the afternoon.”

“No need. You’ve been busy all night, dealing with the fire and the burns. I can manage on my own.”

“Speaking of burns… I suppose it’s time for me to change my dressing.”

“All right, you head to the burn department then. I’m going back to the ward.”

Her wrist was seized once again.
