Chapter 405 Will You Change My Dressing

Josiah embraced her from behind. “Lysander, will you change my dressing?”

“How about I transfer another one hundred and fifty to you? I understand you don’t want to owe meanything. I can transfer it to you right now.”

Lysander pulled away the hands resting on her waist. “There’s a fully–equipped burn department in thehospital and specialized surgical nurses. Don’t come looking for me.”

“I just want you.”

Lysander’s hand was already resting on the door handle.

rai

She fell silent for a moment, striving to keep her voice as calm as possible. “Josiah, let’s drop it.”

“Are you tired? It’s all right. I can head to the burn department…”

“I’m talking about you and I.”

Josiah’s voice held a hint of hesitation. “What do you mean?”

“It’s exactly what you’re thinking. We were once close as husband and wife, but now that we’redivorced, we’re nothing more than strangers. You don’t need to concern yourself with my affairsanymore, nor do you need to explain so much to me. Honestly, I don’t want to hear it. If possible, I’drather we never see each other again.”

Josiah remained silent.

Yet, it was clear that his temper was flaring as his breathing grew heavier. “Lysander, what do I need todo to make you feel my remorse and love?”

“You don’t have to do anything. I don’t need any form of remorse, let alone love. That’s all. Send myregards to Madam Susan for me.”

When she returned to the ward, only Daphne was there.

Daphne whistled. “The pretentious b*tch has left.”

“Did you chase her away with your harsh words?”

Daphne spread her hands. “Do I look like that kind of person to

o you?”

“I don’t mean it that way.”

“Haha, I was just teasing you. In my opinion, the whole visiting mom thing is just a pretense. Shemerely wanted to lure Josiah here, so that you could see him getting medicine for her.”

“I think so too.”

“But it’s pointless, you know. Josiah already knows her true colors. Even if she tries to provoke you, themoment you get upset, Josial will only come to pacify you. He won’t pay her any mind. It’s really just awaste of effort.”

“Huh?”

“I’ve had nothing to do with Josiah for a while now.”

Her news of returning to the country couldn’t be kept a secret for long.

Once Molly’s situation had more or less stabilized, Lysander returned home for a visit.

Both Maverick and Laura were taken aback. But when they heard that she would no longer be going toStounia, their faces, although tinged with a hint of regret, were predominantly filled with joy.

Laura busied herself in the kitchen, preparing her favorite dishes. All the while, she hummed along toher favorite songs.

Maverick was filled with deep emotion. “It’s fine if you don’t go. Lysa, honestly, at our age, we don’treally expect you to achieve great things. As long as you and Mich are both healthy and safe and wecan all spend time together as a family, those are the happiest days for us.”

Lysander poured a cup of coffee for Maverick. “Mm, I’ll be staying in the country from now on andspending more time with you both.”

Maverick was still somewhat uneasy. “Were you… mistreated in Stounia?”

“No.

“Tell me the truth. Are those foreigners looking down on Aplothians?”

“No. My colleagues are all quite nice to me. Dad, what were you thinking?”

Then why did you return so soon after you left?”

Lysander casually made up an excuse. “I never felt it back home, but not long after I went abroad, itwas Thanksgiving. Suddenly, I felt quite lonely, so I came back.”

Maverick paused for a moment, then burst out laughing. “Well, isn’t that the truth? Thanksgiving isindeed a day for reunion. So, have you quit your job over there? Can you return to Central Hospital?”

After some thought, Lysander said, “I suppose I could return, but after working for so many years, I’mquite exhausted. I’d like to take a break before going back.”

“All right, all right, you should rest well, then. Speaking of which, our house is about to be demolishedsoon. They’ve already given us notice a few days ago, saying they’ll be discussing compensationagreements with each household. Your mom and I are getting on in years and there are lots of thingswe don’t understand. It’s good that you’re home.”

Lysander gave a nod.

The very next morning, representatives from the relocation office arrived.

There were four of the

of them in total, three men and one woman.

The woman took charge of the conversation, with three men who seemed to serve as bodyguards, butwere more like an intimidating presence. They remained silent, standing behind her. Their arms wereheavily tattooed, a clear warning that they were not people to be trifled with.

Lysander glanced at the work badge hanging on the woman’s chest.

She was Ines from Prestige Constructions.

It’s not Josiah’s father’s company anymore?

“Ms. Thome, we’ve already assessed the size of your previous house. According to our currentcompensation policy, we can offer you a compensation of thirty square nfeters. For the remaining area, you would need to purchase it at the original price.”

Maverick was furious. “This isn’t what you all promised! Didn’t we agree on a one–to–onereplacement? Our old house was over fifty square meters!”

Ines smiled. “Sir, can’t you tell the difference between the old house and the new one? One is on thecity outskirts, the other right in the city center, adjacent to the hospital. The price difference isastronomical! We’re a business, not a government–led demolition. We can’t afford to make a loss, canwe?”

“But before this-

“That was before. The previous construction company has already withdrawn from this project.Naturally, their previous commitments no longer hold. The specific policies will definitely beimplemented according to the new company’s terms.”

“New company?

“Yes. Sir, let me be frank with you. The company that was previously in charge of this project wasactually under Guerra Group. Guerra Group is financially robust, and a loss of several billion doesn’thurt them. They are willing to contribute to the public, for which I would praise their selfless contributionto society. However, our company is small. We can’t afford such a large capital investment. As for your

thirty square meter home, we saw that you and your wife have retired without much source of income, and you still have a college student to support at home. Therefore, the company has specially givenyou a discount. Everyone else has had their area halved.

Caught off guard by the unexpected news, Maverick could only respond with silence.

Lysander asked, “May I know how much more we need to pay?”

“That would depend on how large of a resettlement house you’re looking for.”

“Do you have any with three rooms?”

“Yes, we do have it, but that’s the largest size available, one hundred and thirty square meters. Out ofthat, thirty square meters are complimentary. You’ll need to pay for the remaining hundred squaremeters.”

“What’s the price per unit?”

Ines pulled out a calculator, tapping away briskly. “You should be aware of this plot of land. Thecheapest price for a new house here is over fifty thousand. Multiply that by a hundred, and you’ll get anidea of the amount we’re talking about.”

Maverick glanced at the string of zeros on the calculator screen, a slight frown forming on his face.“Lysa, perhaps we should opt for something smaller.”

Ines quickly responded, “I do have smaller ones. The smallest is about sixty square meters, with onebedroom and one living room.”

“That won’t do at all. There won’t be any room for Mich when she comes home for the holidays…”

Ines seemed to be quite accustomed to such situations. “No worries. You can think it over some moreand contact me once you’ve made up your mind. However, time waits for no one, so please try tohurry.”
