Chapter 403 Josiah Got There In Time

When Lysander returned to the room after the phone call, Josiah was no longer there.

He had taken the time to remove the medical waste that had just been used for treatment from thetrash

bin

She was the only one in the room, which surprisingly made her feel much more at ease. She laid backdown and had a good, undisturbed sleep.

The next day, when she arrived at the hospital, there was an additional person in the ward.

Priscilla was feeding Molly soup.

Seeing her approach, she greeted her with a smile, “Lysander.”

Lysander also responded with a smile, “You’re here.”

“My dad always told me to repay the tiniest favor with enormous gratitude and charity. Besides, I’ve hada lot of free time on my hands recently, so I thought I’d come over and lend a hand.”

Lysander extended her hand. “Thank you, but I can take over now.”

Priscilla handed her the bowl of soup and the spoon she was holding, then stepped aside. Shewatched as Lysander fed Molly the soup.

“Priscilla.

“Hmm?”

“Was the ward empty when you arrived?”

“No, Mr. Thorne has been here all along. He just went to the cafeteria to get some food, so I’m helpinghim keep watch for a bit.”

“Food? Then where did the soup come from?”

“I made this myself. I included several ingredients known for their restorative properties. It’s really goodfor recovery

As they were talking, Howard returned.

However, there was nothing in his hands, and he was wearing an expression of sheer panic.

“Lysa, you’re here…”

Lysander nodded. Noticing his pale complexion, she asked, “What’s wrong?”

Howard sighed. “Even though Lyss is two years older than you, she still behaves like a child. All theseyears, your mom and I have spoiled her too much.”

“What happened to her now?”

“Last night, she forgot to turn off the stove while cooking, and the house caught fire. The house wasmostly.

the house to burn down.”

As Lysander continued to feed Molly soup, she aasually asked, “She’s all right, isn’t she?”

“Yeah, thank goodness Josiah got there in time…” Howard seemed to realize he had misspoken. Hepaused for a moment before quickly clarifying, “Josiah was just worried about his mother. After all, thetwo houses are adjacent, and if the fire had spread, it might have reached the Guerra family’s oldhouse too. He didn’t go there specifically for Lyss. Don’t overthink it.”

No wonder he left so hastily last night.

Lysander said, “It doesn’t matter as long as she’s fine.”

Priscilla muttered. “It’s quite something that a grown person could set the house on fire just bycooking.”

Howard was clearly embarrassed as he awkwardly rubbed his hands together. “She’s never set foot ina kitchen since she was a kid. She doesn’t have a clue about any of this, so…”

“That issue has been resolved, and I don’t need to move into the Thorne manor anymore. I doubt it’seven habitable now.”

Howard felt even more awkward. “How about I buy you a new house? You can choose whichever oneyou like. Just let me know.”

“Let’s talk about it later.”

After finishing a bowl of soup, Molly also felt a bit weary.

Lysander helped her lay down, adjusting the blanket around her. “You should go back and take a look.I’ll stay and keep watch here.”

Howard waved his hand. “It’s okay. I’ll stay here.”

“Aren’t you worried about Lysanne?”

Howard did not respond.

Lysander added, “You’ve raised her since she was young. Even without a blood connection, you’d stillfeel concerned, right? Go and take a look, so Lysanne doesn’t get the wrong idea that I’m the onepreventing you from going.”

With a sigh, Howard walked over and patted her shoulder. “I’ll just go for a quick look, and I’ll be rightback.

“Priscilla, could you help me see him off?”

“Sure,” said Priscilla. “Mr. Thorne, let’s take the back door, shall we? The front entrance of the hospitalis always congested with traffic, while the back door is much less crowded.”

Howard followed behind Priscilla as they left.novelbin

Molly also closed her eyes to rest.

When they left, the door to the ward was left open. From the corner of her eye, Lysander caught sightof familiar figure, who was gesticulating wildly at the drway.

She let out a chuckle, then beckoned a junior nurse over to look after Molly before she left.

“Lysander!” Daphne embraced her. “I’m so sorry. There’s just been so much going on at home recently.I couldn’t get away. As soon as I had a moment, I rushed over to see you.”

Lysander removed Daphne’s hands from her and said with a smile, “When an elder is ill, you shouldfulfill your duty and look after them. Besides, there’s nothing of great importance going on with me.”

“Nothing of great importance? You’re now a daughter of a prominent family, you know. When I wascoming here, I even asked my father. The Thorne family’s business is much larger than ours. Whoknows. I might have to cling to you for support in the future.”

Lysander tapped her forehead lightly. “Don’t. I’m just an ordinary doctor.”

Daphne guided her to the nearby rest area and sat down. “Are you implying that you have no intentionof inheriting the Thome family’s wealth?”

After some thought, Lysander nodded.

“Are you

out of your mind? You’re the rightful heir! If you don’t claim your inheritance, all of the Thorne family’swealth will fall into the hands of that adopted girl! Listen to me, Lysander, this isn’t the time for us to behigh–minded. What’s rightfully yours, you must claim! Why should you hand it over to someone else ona silver platter?”

Lysander was much more composed. “I’m not just going to hand everything over, but I studiedmedicine. I don’t understand all that business stuff, and I certainly don’t want to end up a spendthrift.”

“But that b*tch doesn’t understand too! It’s your family. Why let others spend all that money?”

“Josiah will help to keep an eye on things.”

Daphne listened, only half–understanding. “You mean to say.

“I don’t mean anything by it. At this point, I don’t have much say in everything that’s happening. We’lljust have to take it one step at a time.”

“Do you still plan on going to Stounia?”

Lysander shook her head. “The situation here is too complicated. If I go, I can’t guarantee thatsomething won’t happen to Molly again.”

Daphne let out a sigh. “It’s such a shame. You’ve missed a great opportunity for an assignmentabroad.”

“No worries. As I’ve said before, as a doctor, no matter where I am, my duty remains the same: to treatillnesses and save lives.”

“Are you glad about it, then?”

“Isn’t life just like that? You keep facing troubles and you keep making compromises.”

“So, do you plan on keeping this a secret from your parents forever?”

“We’ll see later,” Lysander said, somewhat worn out. “Daphine, is my sister doing okay?”

“Hahaha, don’t worry. Your sister is a total social bully. Not long after she started university, she made a

bunch of friends. She’s been happily busy every day.”

“What has she been busy with?”

“I heard she joined several clubs, even the student council. Every day she’s either rehearsing for a playor practicing roller skating. She’s absolutely over the moon with joy.”

Lysander chuckled. “What a carefree little girl.”

“Moreover, I heard that a senior from the university’s basketball team was pursuing her.”

Lysander was somewhat surprised. “That fast? Hasn’t it been just a short while since she started.university?”

“Kids these days are quite bold. I heard he was rather passionate.” Daphne laughed. “But your sisterrejected him outright. I was quite impressed by her. Back in our day, even if we wanted to rejectsomeone, we had to do it subtly and politely. Your sister is quite a force. She just said two words, ‘Noway!‘ and sent him off. Actually, in my opinion, that basketball boy was quite handsome and tall. Hewas really nice.”

Lysander couldn’t help but sigh.

Her ex–boyfriend truly has a significant impact.

It’s likely that Michelle never wanted to have anything to do with a guy who plays basketball in her lifeagain.
