Chapter 1108

She was somewhat startled, her concern for Maja escalating.

"Ian, you haven't so much as checked up on her in the three years you've been abroad, and yet she

still dotes on Holden, treating him like her very own grandfather. She couldn't possibly harm him. If you

can't even trust her in this, then what kind of affection do you claim to harbor? Maja hardly ever

mentioned your affairs to me. When you two were first getting involved, I always advised her not to fall

too deeply for you, considering the other women in your life. She assured me she wouldn't allow herself

to fall into that trap. But the few times we met subsequently, there was a certain sparkle in her eyes

whenever your name was brought up, despite your numerous attempts to screw things up."

Carol could hardly hold back her tears at the mere thought of Maja being in trouble.

"Everything that's happened, every incident combined, has been your doing. How can you just decide

to give up? Or is it that men's affections are so fickle, easily forgotten over a few drinks? If that's the

case, then don't bother pretending anymore. I'll search for her myself. I'll use the Miller family's

resources!"

Carol was livid. She rose to leave but was stopped by Ryan.

"Ms. Miller, that is a complicated matter."

Ryan repeated the events of that day, emphasizing the part where Maja had thrown a venomous snake

at Ian.

Carol was taken aback, her worry intensifying.

"Maja loves you. She wouldn't want to hurt you. She must have been coerced. Shouldn't the priority

now be to find her? Ian, have you lost faith in yourself? Can't you feel her affection when she looks at

you when she talks to you?"

Love was like warming oneself by a fireplace. If the love existed, one would surely feel it. It's not

something outsiders can comprehend.

Whether one felt it or not, the person by the fireplace would know best.

Ian remained silent, sinking into the couch. His attitude infuriated Carol.

"Forget it. I had no expectations of you anyway. Maja should never have been with you."

He scoffed, his eyes welling up.

"Ms. Carol, you've known her for years, but I've only known her for a short while. She used my

brother's birthday as a password and kept his belongings. My brother was her first love. Her college

drafts were filled with verses related to my brother's name. They were deeply involved, but my brother

died six years ago. You say Maja married into the Raymond family because I resembled my brother. Or

was it for some other reason?"

Carol was stunned. She had no idea about any of this.

She'd known Maja had someone hidden deep in her heart but never knew who.

Now, as Ian revealed that person to be his own brother, it seemed the most plausible explanation.

Otherwise, he wouldn't be so indifferent to Maja's situation.

Ryan, who'd been listening in silence, was equally taken aback.

"Even if that's the case, didn't your brother pass away?"

"He returned to life, and Maja chose to go with him. Now they're happily together, isn't that great?"

His words were laced with sarcasm as he rose to head upstairs.

"So why should I interfere? Besides, she's not only slept with me."

"Ian! You need evidence before making such accusations! Maja is a very conservative woman. She

was too shy to even mention that she'd spent a night with you."

"She admitted it herself."

Ian's expression was one of impatience as he glanced at Ryan.

"Get her out of here. Don't bring anyone else in the future."novelbin

Ryan quickly stepped forward, grabbing Carol's arm.

"Ms. Miller, let's go. If Maja willingly went with my cousin, then our search would be pointless. Given his

current circumstances, he needs to lay low."

Carol's mind was blank until the living room door closed forcefully behind her. She then shrugged off

Ryan's hand.

It was impossible. Maja wasn't the kind of woman to elope.

The Star Movie Group still needed her. She had too many responsibilities to disappear simply.

From Ian's perspective, however, he wasn't wrong.

Feeling a headache coming on, Carol returned to the Miller family home. She had to use the Miller

family's resources to find Maja. Only when she asked Maja personally would she find peace.
