Chapter 429

Back then, admiration, fondness, and affection were written all over Inez’s face whenever she saw him.

However, her expression appeared complicated this time.

After struggling internally for a long time, she lowered her eyes and finally said, “Mr. Kieran, I’m very

sorry for bothering you for half a year back then.”

Staring at her quietly, Kieran said nothing and waited for her to continue.

“I might never bother you again from now you because my dad decided to marry me off to the

Campbell family. I’m engaged now.”

Kieran’s expression froze. Pursing his lips and contemplating for a while, he uttered, “Well,

congratulations.”

His words stabbed into Inez’s heart like a dagger, the agony so intense that she could feel it all over her

body.

Resisting the urge to cry, she acted tough and said, “I know you never liked me. I was being hopeful for

so long. From now on, I will wash away my feelings for you bit by bit until I can completely let go of

them and never bother you ever again.”

As she reached the end of her sentence, her voice grew thicker, while her eyes couldn’t help but

redden as tears welled up in them.

Although she was an independent career woman in the business world, she was a fool longing for the

person she loved to reciprocate her feelings when it came to love.

However, Kieran’s congratulations had snapped her back to reality.

Noticing her sorrow, Kieran slowly reached out his hand to comfort her.

However, in the next instant, his arm hung in mid-air as he didn’t know what right he had to do so.

While he was still in a dilemma, Inez had already decided.

“Goodbye, Mr. Kieran.”

After leaving him with those final-sounding words, she turned around and ran away.

Kieran’s hand was still frozen in the air. He stood transfixed for a long time without budging, unable to

discern how he felt. Strangely, his heart was filled with complicated emotions.

It wasn’t until an arm rested on his shoulder that he regained his senses.

It was Treyton. He had seen Inez leaving while sobbing when he came over.

Sighing, he spoke up for Inez and grumbled sternly, “Kieran, listen, you’re at fault here. She pursued

you for half a year. Now that I see the disappointed look on your face, you don’t look like someone who

has no feelings for her at all. In a relationship, things will end miserably if your partner is always the

giver while you keep being passive. You should know your true feelings. If you really like her, you

should win her back. If not, then give her your blessings.

Adjusting his luxurious wristwatch, Kieran said without hesitation, “She’s engaged now. There’s no

need for me to meddle in her life. From now on, we will go our separate ways and live our own lives.”

“Does that mean you truly do have feelings for her?” Treyton pressed.

After pondering for a while, Kieran gave a short response in a cold tone, “No.”

Then, he turned around and left.

Treyton hurriedly chased after him. “No? I don’t believe you! Keep pretending. You were hesitant!

Kieran, others might not know you well, but certainly not me. If you keep being a blockhead, you will

lose a precious wife to someone else soon!”

Even then, Kieran’s lips remained sealed. He wore an icy look, maintaining his cold attitude.

Treyton was worried about him from the bottom of his heart. “Kieran, you have to act fast if you want to

win her back. You won’t stand a chance if you keep being like this. I hope you don’t end up in misery by

then!”

Meanwhile, Cedrick shooed the chattering crowd in the ward away.

Silence finally returned to the room.

Cedrick blew on the oatmeal and fed Gwendolyn each spoonful patiently. His deep dark gaze made

him look like something was weighing on his mind.

After being together for a long time, Gwendolyn could sense something was bothering him with just one

glance.

“Cedrick, what’s wrong?”

Before he could say anything to brush her off, Gwendolyn quickly added, “Don’t forget how you

suffered for keeping a secret from me back then. I will teach you a good lesson after I finish my

postpartum confinement if you dare lie to me again!”

Cedrick was rendered speechless.

Her threat was working.

Cedrick pondered briefly before saying honestly, “Gwenny, do you still remember when I contracted the

S404 RNA virus?”

“I do.”

Lowering his gaze, he continued, “Now that the babies are born, I plan to take them to the lab for a

health check when I have the time. You should also do it after you are discharged.”

The matter was very important as it concerned their family’s future lives.

However, Gwendolyn frowned sternly, concern written all over her face. “The babies are still young. It’s

pitiful to see them getting tests. I can’t bear to watch that.”

“Gwenny, it’s best to do it soon. If there are any problems, we can ask Joshua to prepare and start the

treatment earlier.”

Gwendolyn certainly couldn’t bear to see her children being poked and prodded at such a young age.

“Let’s wait a little longer. The babies are still young and weak and shouldn’t go through something like

that. They should be fine if we pay more attention to their condition and check on them frequently.”

Cedrick nodded and offered her a spoonful of the nutritional oatmeal. “I’ll do as you say.”

Turning sideways, Gwendolyn refused to eat any more.novelbin

Thus, he had no choice but to put it in his mouth and slowly swallow it.

Staring at him for a while, Gwendolyn then asked while frowning deeply, “Ceddy, if I didn’t ask you

earlier, you were thinking of ways to take the babies to the lab secretly, weren’t you?”

His hand holding the bowl of oatmeal suddenly quivered before he hurriedly looked up and said with a

smile, “No way. Of course, I wanted to discuss it with you. The children don’t only belong to me. I

shouldn’t make decisions on your behalf.”

“That’s more like it.”

Only then did Gwendolyn let him off.

He heaved a sigh of relief. That was close. If I had said the wrong thing, I bet I’d have gotten an earful

again.

Gwendolyn noticed every little change in his expression and suppressed her laughter. Her gaze

darkened inadvertently before she kept a straight face to hide her emotion.

After staying at the hospital for a few days, Gwendolyn was finally discharged and about to head home

to start her postpartum confinement.

Cedrick helped her put on some thick cotton socks, a fur coat, and a white cap made of fox fur before

taking her home.

As Gwendolyn had to be in confinement, there were many things Cedrick had to do.

Aside from helping Gwendolyn handle the documents from Harris Group occasionally and with his own

various tasks at Jenson Group, he had to take care of his two children and prepare Gwendolyn’s daily

nutritional meals.

Doing all of those by himself made him look like a superhuman.

However, as he hadn’t gotten any sleep for the past few days, he looked haggard.

The sight of him broke Gwendolyn’s heart. After discussing with him, she decided to hire a reliable

nanny to care for the children and help Cedrick share some of his burdens.

Nico surveyed some nanny service agencies for consecutive days and finally selected a young woman

from the best among them.

She was taken to see Gwendolyn in her room so that the latter could interview her.

Leaning against the headboard, Gwendolyn had Zendaya in her arms as she raised her head to look at

the nanny.

She’s so young. Look at her slender limbs! But I heard she’s the best nanny at the agency.

The young woman had an ordinary appearance, though half her face was covered in bandages.

However, her eyes looked gorgeous and clear.

When they locked gazes, Gwendolyn somehow felt an inexplicable sense of familiarity. This is weird.

For some reason, she didn’t like the young woman, and it was not because she was judging the latter

from her looks either.

Looking at the prospective nanny nonchalantly, Gwendolyn asked, “What is your name, and what

happened to your face?”
