Chapter 337

Chapter 337 Not Great

Caesar felt giddy during his car ride back home. The scene of his meeting with Gwendolyn was stillnovelbin

replaying in his mind. “I think I know what ‘love at first sight‘ feels like now, Father! When I saw Ms.

Harris, my heart fluttered! I think I’m in love with her! I want to pursue her!”

Gerhardt stroked his beard and spoke calmly. “You can’t. Some time ago, your mother told me Vidar

brought a woman back here and intended to marry her. I believe she’s that woman.”

The look of disappointment was scribbled all over Caesar’s countenance. “So she’s my brother’s

fiancée?”

“Don’t call him your brother! He’s just an illegitimate child. I’ll never accept his existence.” Anger

flooded Gerhardt’s heart as he tightened his fists.

Caesar was most afraid of his father’s wrath. He hunched his shoulders timidly. After some thinking, he

said, “I don’t think Ms. Harris likes him, though. She looked at me like she was asking for my help and

was being forced to be with him.”

“The matter doesn’t concern you. Stop bringing it up.”

“But…” Caesar removed a note from his pocket with worry in his eyes. “Ms. Harris stuffed this into my

palm when we shook hands earlier.”

Gerhardt turned to his son and noticed the note. Promptly, he grabbed it and read it.

“What does it say, Father?” Curious, Caesar leaned toward his father.

Gerhardt immediately shredded the note. There weren’t any discernable emotions on his weathered

face. “She wants to work with me in exchange for some benefit.”

“Really? How about you let me handle it, Father? You can consider this a training for me-

“Nonsense!” exclaimed Gerhardt.

Immediately, Caesar lowered his head and carefully glimpsed at his father. “Does this mean you won’t

accept Ms. Harris‘ request to work with her?”

Gerhardt didn’t answer his son’s question, though a glint was present in his cloudy eyes.

When Kylie saw Gwendolyn, she immediately took a liking to the younger woman. She held the latter’s

hand and asked her many questions about Chanaea.

Gwendolyn politely answered all of them.

Kylie was forty–five years old, yet there weren’t any signs of her age on her countenance. Clearly, she

took great care of her skin. If Gwendolyn didn’t already know Kylie had two adult sons, she would’ve

thought the latter was around thirty.

While they conversed, Gwendolyn had a feeling Kylie was very interested in everything about

Chanaea. She probably still loves Charles‘ father, which is why Charles is near and dear to her heart.

She was lost in her thought until Kylie patted the back of her hand, pulling her back to reality.

“Charlie sure has a good eye. Even though we just met, I already like you,” remarked Kylie.

Gwendolyn smiled.

Charles was delighted. “Gwen came to Erihal because she wishes to organize a grand wedding with

me here. I’ll be counting on your help for the wedding, Mother.”

“I’ll definitely help make your wedding the best it can be!” assured Kylie.

As Gwendolyn listened to the mother and son enthusiastically discussing the ceremony, she felt pity for

Kylie. Even if there is a wedding, I’ll wreak havoc there.

Once she saw an opportunity to speak, she blurted, “Your Highness, my brother is a medical

researcher. He heard there’s a serum in Erihal called Super Antiviral that can cure any virus. Since I’m

here, I thought I should ask you about it.”

Kylie replied, “There is, but-”

“Mother!” Charles interrupted as he stood. “It’s getting late. I’ve arranged for Gwen to stay at a small

apartment in the suburbs, so I prefer to send her there before nightfall. I’ll visit you with her again next

time.”

Nodding, Kylie beamed at him. “In that case, you should. There’ll be a banquet in the palace five days

later. Remember to attend it with Ms. Harris, all right?”

“I will, Mother. We’ll take our leave now.”

While Gwendolyn wished to stay longer, she had no choice but to stand and bade Kylie goodbye.

She disliked Charles dragging her away by her arm, but she couldn’t say anything while she was still in

Kylie’s view.

After they left the palace, she immediately hurled his hand away. “Why didn’t you let Her Highness

finish – her sentence, Charles? Is there something about the serum that you didn’t tell me?”

“If there’s anything you want to know, ask me about it. Don’t bring it up in front of Mother. I know what

you’re trying to figure out.” Charles‘ tone turned serious. “Don’t even try scheming, Gwen. It’s pointless.

The serum is kept in the royal storehouse. The only way you can obtain it is by marrying me.”

Gwendolyn scowled at him coldly. “Lie to me, and I’ll kill you, Charles.”

“Why would I? We’re about to get married, and married couples are supposed to be honest with each

other.” He smiled and tried to hold her hand. “I’ll discuss the wedding date with Mother in the next few

days. During the banquet, she’ll announce our wedding. Now that we’re officially a couple, it’s not too

much for me to ask for handholding, is it?”

“You’re nothing to me until the last moment!” Gwendolyn barked before striding ahead.

Nico followed her

Not long after, Charles sent Gwendolyn and Nico to their residence in the suburbs.

Gwendolyn didn’t want to listen to any more of Charles‘ disgusting flirtations. Hence, she hastily chased

him away and uneasily waited for Gerhardt to arrive.

Even after the sun had vanished into the horizon, she kept waiting. The road remained quiet as the

snow flew past her window.

Nico slipped into her room and turned off the tiny listening device on the overhead light.

“It seems Lord Gerhardt isn’t willing to cooperate with me,” remarked Gwendolyn as she sat on the

bed, dejected.

Upon sighing with her, Nico encouraged, “Don’t give up hope. After all, it was your first time meeting

him. Gerhardt’s clearly a cautious man, so it’s expected for him not to trust you immediately.”

“Mhm.” Gwendolyn nodded in high spirits. “I’ll gain his trust during the banquet five days from now!”

As he stared at her pretty face, he couldn’t help but respect her every decision from the bottom of his

heart. “What would you like to eat for dinner? I’ll request the housekeeper to ask Charles to bring the

meal here later.”

Gwendolyn’s expression turned bitter in response to his words. Lunch was technically terrific, but Ididn’t have the appetite to enjoy it. Still, I had to pretend I did in front of Her Highness. I think I only had

a few bites.

Recalling that made her feel sick in the stomach. She patted her chest to make the wave of disgust

pass her by.

“There’s nothing in particular that I want to eat, and I’m not hungry. Maybe I’m just not used to the local

cuisine. Just ask the housekeeper to bring any food available.” Exhaustion overwhelmed her mind as

she rubbed her temples. “I’m tired, so I’ll take a nap first. Wake me up when dinner arrives.”

“Okay. You should rest, considering you’ve been walking around the palace all day.” After turning the

listening device back on, Nico closed the door and left.

Gwendolyn started to wonder why she wasn’t feeling well. I’ve been feeling sleepy these two days.

Maybe it’s because I’m stressed out after coming here.
