Chapter 398

In the ward..

Nathan was lying on the bed as he received his drips.

Pearlyn was on the bed next to him. She murmured, "Nathan, just let it go. Look, Heinz had done his

best for us, what else could we ask for?"

Nathan looked pale, but he managed to pull on a long face.

"His... his child is already five years old," Nathan brought up what had been bothering him again. "He

looked like he was not finding any woman, but he was with someone behind our backs. And it was

immediately after the death of our daughter."

"So what?" Pearlyn sighed, "Still, our child had gone."

Her child had gone and what could be more important than that?

Nathan straightened his back. He could not overcome the hurdle in his heart.

"I hoped that he could be happy with another woman but I didn't expect it to be that fast. He didn't love

Jodie. Do you know that? He didn't love her."

Pearlyn's eyes was red.

She comforted him, "Does it matter whether he loved her? Don't you understand? Our child is gone

and it's no use thinking about it. Why do you want to be the bad guy? I've seen that girl. She is beautiful

and gentle and she looks like a good match for Heinz. She is a simple and plain girl. It's not surprising

that Heinz fell for a girl like that."

"You're missing the point," Nathan retorted. "You don't understand what's on my mind. What I mind is

that he had let go of Jodie in a short time! Jodie suffered so much because of him. How could he just

turn around and hook up with another woman? They even had a child and hid it from us all these years.

He's a hypocrite."

"Nathan." Suddenly, Chief Stone's voice came from the door. "You're agitated again."

Nathan turned to look at the door.

He sighed, "Queenie, how could I not be angry? He hid it from us. We've told him and even persuaded

him to find a girlfriend but he always acted like he's not interested. He acted like a loyal widower when

he already had a child."

"I think there might be some misunderstandings." Chief Stone explained, "We all know that Heinz is not

that kind of person. There must be a reason behind this. I heard that the girl had just returned with the

child after suffering a lot of hardships."

"But he already has a child," Nathan could not help complaining. "I felt I was deceived. For so many

years, I felt sorry for him, but he deceived us."

"Heinz just knew about the existence of the child recently," Chief Stone added. "Nathan, you have

gotten the wrong idea."

"Fine. I know you like him. I like him too and because of that, I find it difficult to accept the fact that I

was being deceived," Nathan said.

"Queenie, please advise him. Your brother-in-law is being stubborn again," Pearlyn said helplessly.

"You've always persuaded Heinz to find a girlfriend but you're acting like this when he finally found one.

Nathan, we've lived for so many years, so what's the big deal? We've lost our child. Does it even matter

anymore?"novelbin

Nathan was taken aback by her words. He was at a loss for words for a long time.

Chief Stone let out sigh and said softly, "Indeed, it's no big deal. Pearlyn, Nathan, aren't you two at the

age where you should enjoy life without a care of the world?"

Nathan went blank. After a long pause, he asked in an impatient tone, "Did he visit today?"

"Yes. He came but you said that you didn't want to see him." Chief Stone added, "I've asked Heinz and

his assistant to leave."

"They just left?" Nathan raised his voice.

"Do you think they'll stay here and infuriate you?" Chief Stone uttered, "You're so angry and you would

definitely fly off the handle if he enters this room. It's not easy for Heinz these years. Just let it go,

Nathan."

Nathan did not speak anymore.

He pursed his lips and seemed very displeased.

Chief Stone glanced at her cousin and taunted, "Look at the big baby. It seems that he has really grown

old."

"Queenie, I don't know what to do. Heinz didn't do anything wrong. Nathan is just getting senile. He

was furious just because of Jodie. But in fact, he's the most reasonable one."

"Pearlyn, I know," Chief Stone chuckled. "I believe Heinz won't take it to heart too."

In the Jones Estate..

Heinz sandwiched a cigarette between his slender fingers as he stood in front of the French window.

One end of the cigarette was lit and wisps of white smoke drifted out from it.

Lester came in and greeted respectfully, "President."

Heinz turned to sit down on his executive chair before raising his head to look at Lester.

"Lester, please pay more attention to Mr. Lawson."

"Yes!" Lester replied.

"Also, order a bouquet of Gerbera daisies for me."

Surprised, Lester asked, "Are you going to the cemetery?"

"Order it now and have it delivered to me. I will go in the afternoon," Heinz instructed.

"Yes, President."

Immediately, Lester placed an order for the flowers. It was two o'clock in the afternoon when the

flowers were delivered.

Heinz set off from Jones Estate to the cemetery.

He did not ask Lester to go along with him and went on his own.

At half past one in the afternoon, Grace received a phone call from Hermione. "Grace, go somewhere

with me." "Where is it, Hermione?" "The cemetery. I dare not go alone," Hermione replied.

Grace was startled. Cemeteries were indeed creepy and it must be frightening to go there alone.

"Who are you visiting?" Grace asked.

"My father," Hermione forced a smile and explained. "Today is my father's death anniversary."

"Oh." Grace was taken aback.

"Sorry, I don't see you as an outsider," Hermione replied bluntly. "So, please go with me."

"Sure!"

The two of them went to the cemetery together. It was located on a hillside in the western suburbs and

the whole hill was turned into a public cemetery.

They stopped their car nearby. Instantly, Grace noticed Heinz's car, which was parked in the cemetery's

parking lot,

It was the car he used to send her to work in the morning. The number plate indicated that it was

indeed Heinz's car.

Grace did not expect Heinz to be at the cemetery.

She wondered who he was paying his respects to.

Deeply curious, she followed Hermione and walked toward the cemetery.

They climbed up the stairs paved with marble.

"My dad is in the 19th row of Area D," Hermione said. She held a bouquet of chrysanthemums and

Grace helped her with the grave blanket. Then, they made their way in.

Upon arriving at Hermione's late father's grave, Grace saw the photo on the tombstone. The greying

old man's eyes were sharp and kind.

She bowed to show her respect.

Hermione said to her immediately, "Grace, thank you for coming with me. You should wait for me over

there. I'll talk to my father for a bit and we can leave after that."

"Okay." Grace placed the grave blanket over the grave and distanced herself over ten meters away

from Hermione.

She stood next to a cypress tree. As she glanced over her shoulder inadvertently, she spotted a tall

figure standing not far away from her. He was standing on the left side of the cemetery, facing a

tombstone.

It happened to be Heinz.

Grace was about to call out to him when she suddenly realized that she was in a cemetery. It was not

appropriate to make too much noise.

Therefore, she walked down from the stairs and went around to look for him.

But as soon as she went there, she found that Heinz had already left in a hurry from the other side of

the stairs.

When she arrived at the tombstone, she spotted a bouquet of bright Gerbera daisies.

There was a photo of a woman on the tombstone. She had long hair, beautiful facial features and a pair

of big eyes. Her lips were curled into a smile and she looked elegant.

It was Jodie!

The name on the tombstone read 'Jodie Lawson'.

'In the loving memory of our beloved daughter, Jodie Lawson'

'Father: Nathan Lawson"

'Mother: Pearlyn Drake'

At that moment, Grace's heart sank.
