Chapter 1855

"No, it's all my fault," Grace shook her head, eyes bloodshot. She knew that Ernest must have gonethrough a lot when he was younger if he still thought about it now.

If a child didn't have his mother by his side when he needed her most, what were all the materialthings in the world worth to him?

A mother's love superseded anything else.

When Ernest needed Grace, she failed him.

Hence, how could she not feel guilty?

Grace voiced out her long-repressed guilt as she held Ernest in her arms, "Honestly, I was toostupid. I trusted the wrong people, and even now, I'm still kind towards them. I don't want to dwelltoo much on the past, but I forgot that my son was the true victim here. I'm sorry, Ernest."

"Mommy, I told you. It's okay. Don't cry," Ernest felt his mother's tears dripping into his clothes, dampening his sweater.

Ernest felt very sad.

He didn't want to upset his pregnant mother.

In truth, he had never ever resented his mother. He just found it ridiculous that everyone just simplyforgave the people who caused this.

Why?

They deserved to be imprisoned.

Why would they be in jail if they hadn't committed a whole laundry list of crimes?

It was justice.

They were vile enough to lay hands on an infant.

Simon and Marry disgusted Ernest.

Ernest felt that his family had forgiven the two too easily.

Furthermore, Simon was still thinking of ways to slander his mother and Celeste.

He didn't know what his father and Gary were thinking. How they could allow such a thing tohappen?

Ernest knew that if they wanted to, they could crush Simon and Marry like an ant.

However, Gary and Heinz had chosen to forgive the two just like that.

What else could he say?

Now, even his mother had chosen to forgive them despite what they'd done to her. There was noroom for him to protest.

Ernest sighed, "Mom, you suffered the most in this. If you can forgive her, so can I. Help her if youwant to."

He already thought it through.

Grace had been brought up by the Smith family, and she still carried their surname. Perhaps she felta deep bond with the Smiths.

Hence, it was likely that she was doing this not for Marry and Simon, but for everyone else that wasinvolved.

"No, Ernest. I'm not going to do anything. I always end up neglecting you," Grace denied.

"No, mom, I'm fine," Ernest patted Grace's shoulder gently and comforted her, "Don't cry. If youkeep crying, it will be bad for the babies."

Grace was shocked when she heard this.

She looked up at Ernest to find him looking back at her. He had a bright, discerning glint in his eyes.

Grace was momentarily dazzled.

She was very touched to find her son's acceptance.

There was no hatred in her son's eyes, only concern. However, this made her even more upset.

With no choice left, Ernest turned to his father for help.

Heinz handed him a tissue.

Ernest quickly took it and wiped his mother's tears away.

Grace shot an embarrassed look at her son as she accepted the tissue. Then, she quickly wipedher tears away.

Ernest continued, "Mom, I'm serious. I heard what you and dad said earlier, and I decided to forgiveSimon and Marry as well. Although they're evil, they did pay the price for their actions. I just hopethey can turn over a new leaf."

Grace stared at Ernest. She could tell that he'd truly decided to forgive them.

However, Grace still couldn't help but say, "Ernest, you don't have to do this for me."

"I'm doing this willingly mom. I love you," Ernest beamed.

Grace felt very relieved when she saw Ernest's serene smile. She extended her arms and huggedErnest again.

"I love you a lot too," She whispered softly.

"I know," Ernest chuckled, "It's settled then. You and dad can just do what needs to be done. I don'thave much to say about it."

Grace didn't expect Ernest to be so tolerant and rational.

This made her feel even more guilty.

She pursed her lips and called Ernest's name once more.

"Mom, I'm going to be upset if you keep being like this. Just do what you were planning to do in thefirst place," Ernest smiled as he comforted Grace, "Okay, that's all. Mom, I'm going to go upstairsand spend the night with Leah, okay? We're staying here tonight."

Grace was taken aback briefly before she nodded, "Of course. I'd love to have you guys over. Sylviaand Sebastian will be home tonight, and it would be good for everyone to get together."

"Okay," Ernest hugged them and said, "That's settled then. Dad, mom, I'm going upstairs now."

"Go ahead," Grace let Ernest leave after that.

As soon as he left, Heinz looked at Grace with a warm smile, "I told you that Ernest is very sensible. He won't trouble anyone else."

Grace glanced at him and sighed, "You're the one who told me that Ernest was traumatised by whathappened. You made me worry, and now you're telling me that he's sensible? Of course he is, he's

my son! He's never blamed me for anything, and that's what makes me very upset."

She felt extremely guilty towards Ernest.

The more generous and forgiving he was, the sorrier she felt.

Grace felt like she owed Ernest a whole lot.

Heinz paused at his wife's jibe, but then burst into a laugh, "Fine, I admit that I might have worriedtoo much. I shouldn't have told you about that."

Grace shook her head, "No, it was right for you to tell me. You need to tell me about the kids, if not,I'd feel worse if I didn't know."

Of course Heinz understood this.

He agreed, "I knew you would think that way, so that's why I told you."

Grace smiled at Heinz, "Find me a good doctor for Marry and have them contact her. We won't beinvolved with this."

"Actually, you can just contact Marry yourself," Heinz said.

Grace shook her head and refused, "I won't do that. I'm pregnant, and I don't want to take any risks, nor do I want to make her mad."

Although she'd forgiven Marry, she couldn't be certain that she wouldn't blow up at her if they called.Contents belong to NovelDrama.Org

Therefore, she would rather not call Marry at all.

Furthermore, it was already very lenient of Grace to leave Marry be.

Especially after she hurt Grace repeatedly.

Grace wanted to be a good person, but she wasn't a saint.

Heinz agreed, "Right, we'll do as you said. Today was a good day. Gary finally called me dad, and Ireally want him to change his surname to mine."

Grace glanced at him and said, "Then just change mine as well. I've forgiven Marry, so I don't feelas indebted to the Smith family anymore. Now that Alice is in charge of the Sunny Group, I think mydad will be okay with me changing my surname to Jones. At least that will be an example to Gary."

Heinz looked at his wife in surprise and was very touched, "Honey, are you serious?"

Grace raised her eyebrows and asked, "Do I look like I'm kidding?"

"I don't think so," Heinz grinned.

With that, Grace nodded, "That's more like it. I want to show Gary that it can be done, butconvincing Gary is up to you."

Heinz blinked, doubt coloring his features. This was no small feat.

He took a deep breath and looked at Grace, asking, "Could you help me with this? I want to test hisreaction."

Grace shook her head in disagreement, "It's better if you ask him yourself. He's already called youdad, so there's nothing to be shy about. Honestly, it might be better if you talked to him about thisyourself."

Heinz hesitated and asked with uncertainty, "Really?"

"Of course," Grace was absolutely serious, "You have to work for it, right? Since he's already calledyou dad, that means he's accepted you. Why not tell him yourself?"

"I'm afraid that he'll say that I'm asking too much," Heinz sighed.

Grace was rendered speechless for a moment before giggling, "You're hilarious, Heinz. You're tooembarrassed to ask him, so you ask me to go instead. Don't you think Gary will think I'm abusybody?"

Heinz had no comeback to that.

Grace smirked and continued, "Furthermore, this is a matter exclusive to the Jones family."

"But you're already part of the Jones family," Heinz tried his best to plead with Grace.

"Nope," Grace shook her head and was firm, "I won't tell him. Moreover, I don't really know how tostart."

"Forget it, I'll ask him myself," Heinz looked at his wife's belly and also felt that it was notappropriate to let a pregnant woman do this.

He had to be considerate of his wife and share her

burdens.

Furthermore, it didn't really involve her anyway.

"Then I'll go talk to Gary now," Heinz looked upstairs and was ready to go speak to his son.

However, Grace seemed to think of something and tugged at Heinz's sleeve, "Don't go now. Garyand Celeste have been upstairs since our guests left. Don't you know what they're up to?"

"What could they be doing?" Heinz asked absentmindedly.

Grace rolled her eyes at him.

Heinz finally got it and exclaimed, "Ah, I really must be getting old."

Grace looked at her husband with annoyance and scoffed, "Your kids are going to be married soon, but you're still so absent-minded. Aren't you afraid of becoming a laughingstock?"

Heinz chuckled, "Oh, my wife is yelling at me now. Well, I admit that I didn't think of that. Fine, I'lljust go see Michael instead," Heinz decided to do something else and advised, "Just stay home andrest. I'll be back soon."

Grace nodded. Just as Heinz was about to leave, she said, "We should forgive him if possible.Michael doesn't really have anything to do with us. He's just doing this for Cindy, and that doesn'treally warrant us coming after him."

"Understood," Heinz nodded, "I just want to know why he's doing this."

"Yes, go ahead. But be careful, okay?"

Heinz kissed his wife's forehead before leaving.

After that, Grace went back to her room.

The moment she went back to her room, Alice called.

"Grace, I think Leah is great. She's very bold and forthright as a person," Alice commented, "Areyou free to talk?"

Grace was exasperated at Alice's antics, "You've already said so much, yet you still ask me whetherI'm free to talk? Isn't that pointless?"

"Haha, it's fine if you're not free," Alice didn't really care about Grace's response and just continued,"It's not like I'm badmouthing her anyway."

"I'm in my own room, and I have excellent soundproofing in here," Grace spoke as she leaned onthe headboard.

Alice chuckled in relief, "I knew you could talk! Leah's great, and it shocked me when she askedEssie to come today. I quite admire her."

"Leah inviting Essie over is a good thing. That takes care of one our worries," Grace burst intolaughter.

"Grace, I'm serious. Zayne and Essie's situation seems really interesting." "Well, I hope that they'regood for each other."
