Chapter 1770

Leah's relationship had failed and she was at a low point in her life. However, her results spoke otherwise. Contrary to her expectations, she had received the best results in class and even received a first-class scholarship.

Leah had all of the legal provisions memorized by heart. It was as if she had been born with the knowledge ingrained into her system.

She could recite each and every law in the book one by one.

However, she no longer went out, nor did she care about her book's ending.

During the winter break, she received a phone call from Victoria, "Hey Reaper, I got someone to revise the ending for you. They wrote an additional 20000 words for the ending!"

"Really? That's so many words! Is that the completed ending?" Leah asked.

"Not yet. They told me that they could write even more," Victoria told her.

Leah was secretly in shock and muttered, "They must really like the story. I presume that they want to write a different ending?" "Aren't you curious about how they wrote the ending?" Victoria asked Leah coyly.

Leah smiled and replied, "Since you've called to inform me about it, I assume the person is a top tier writer, am I right? If they're that good, I'm sure that the ending they wrote for my book is pretty impressive."

"You caught on quickly!" Victoria laughed, "Oh, Reaper, you have some really loyal fans, do you know that? The writer who wrote the ending for you told me that they wanted to give you all the credit!"

"They want to give me credit for their work?" Leah was a little surprised.

And here she thought that people who wrote books would only do it so that they could earn money.

Leah couldn't help herself from feeling surprised when she found out that the writer who wrote the alternative ending for her book did not want any money for it.

"That's rather strange. Is the person not short of money?" Leah asked.

"The person said that they're your biggest fan. They started reading your book from the very beginning, so they feel deeply attached to it. They didn't want the couple in the book to have such a bad ending, so they volunteered to rewrite the ending for you. They insist on giving you all the credit."

"I don't want it. I haven't earned any credit since I wasn't the who wrote the alternative ending. The writer should be the one to reap the benefits of their own labor. You should tell them that. Speaking of which, I'd like to check out their writing. Have you published it?" Leah asked.

"I'm calling to ask for your opinion on it, actually. I'll put it up once you give me the green light," Victoria admitted coyly, "To be honest, I think the writing's great."

"A man?" Leah exclaimed in surprise, "How is that possible? How can a man imitate another woman's writing style so well? Surely there has to be some discrepancy."

"Exactly! That's why I was fooled. If it was written by a woman, I wouldn't have called you in such a rush."

Leah couldn't help laughing when she heard about the writer's gender. A man had written something that managed to catch Victoria's eye. Hence, the man's writing must be really impressive.

"I don't really care if the writer's a man or a woman. As long as you think it's good, you should just publish it," Leah didn’t really care about the book anymore.

In fact, she had already given up on it. She did not care who would resume the book and how the story had unfolded.

All Leah wanted to do was get her lawyer's certificate and get a well-paying job in a lawyer firm. She wanted to become a strong, independent working woman. At the same time, she had other plans to further her studies as a graduate student as well. Her dream was to either become a really successful lawyer, or a professor at a university later on.

Those were her future plans.

For that to happen, she had to work on her studies first.

When Victoria noticed that Leah did not sound excited, she sighed, "Alright then, I'll send you the draft. Take a look at the first few words. Get back to me after that, alright?"

"Alright, sure thing," Leah mumbled.

After Victoria hung up the phone, she sent the draft to Leah.

Just as Leah was about to click on the document, she received a call. When she saw that it was from an unknown number, she did not think much of it and answered it without a second thought.

Hogan's voice was instantly heard, "Leah, I'm downstairs. I really want to see you. Can you come down to meet me?"

Since the security system had been upgraded, Hogan could not enter the building at all.

"Hogan?" Leah asked in shock. She did not think that Hogan would call her using another number after she blocked his previous number.

Hogan's persistence troubled her to no end, but she had no idea how to deal with a person like him.novelbin

She truly admired Hogan's spirit and sighed, "Why are you still being so persistent? I'm honestly really busy at the moment. There is no need for us to meet again. I don't have anything to say to you."

"Leah, why don't you want to meet up with me? Are you worried that you'll end up falling back in love with me?" Hogan smirked.

"Since when have I ever liked you?" Leah asked in confusion.

"I'm pretty sure you had a crush on me before," Hogan was still as smug as ever.

Leah didn't know how to react to him. In fact, she felt embarrassed for him and groaned, "You've overestimated yourself. Any interest I've had in you has long dissipated. Hogan, you've got to stop wasting your breath trying to woo me. Why are you still trying so hard?

To avoid Hogan, she rarely went out anymore.

"Leah, I told you a long time ago, Ernest isn't the right person for you. How could someone with his background fall for you? You're an ordinary lass. How could you possibly think that the two of you would end up together? You and I are more suited for each other."

"He is the young master of a rich family. He was just playing with your feelings. Don't you know that?"

Leah merely smiled and replied, "You're right. Ernest and I are not suited for each other. Even though I was played by Ernest, I had consented to it wholeheartedly. However, if you want to do the same to me, you can forget it."

"You got played by him?" Hogan wasn't stupid. He immediately understood the hidden meaning behind Leah's words.

Leah replied coldly, "Are you done talking? If you're finished, I'll hang up the phone now."

"Hold on. I'm not done," Hogan snickered and continued, "Aren't you embarrassed? You've been played by a young master from a rich family and broke up. He doesn't want you anymore, yet you're still acting all arrogant! I think you're just lusting after him."

Leah did not react to his mockery at all. She replied indifferently, "That's none of your business."

"Leah, Just come down for a moment. Let's have a nice chat. I promise that I won't do anything to you. We can just talk."

"There's nothing I want to talk about with you," Leah refused adamantly.

"Leah, if you come see me, I'll look for you at your college tomorrow morning. Summer break is coming soon anyway, so I can still see you. You don't want me to appear on the stage while you're being presented with your scholarship award; do you?" Hogan said in a devious tone.

At this point," Leah rolled her eyes, "Hogan, I'm not one to take things lying down. I'm not the type to be threatened to do things I don't want to so easily. You can just go ahead and try. If you think the university will let you cause a ruckus without any consequences, be my guest. In any case, I don't really care."

After that, Leah hung up the phone without waiting for Hogan to say anything.

Then, she got up and walked to the window to glance downstairs.

She could see Hogan standing in the vacant space downstairs, looking up in her general direction.

Suddenly, two men could be seen walking over to Hogan. They said something to him, but Leah was too far away to hear what was being said.

Leah could vaguely hear them mention Hogan by name, but other than that, she had no idea what they were talking about. Eventually, the two left with Hogan in tow.

Leah looked at the three retreating figures in confusion. She thought that it was really strange.

When she walked back into her room, her eyes landed on the little tortoise in the tank.

The room was warm, and the tortoise was swimming about freely in the tank.

"Little one, who do you think took Hogan away? They look pretty buff to me," Leah reached out and poked the tortoise's shell. Then, she shook her head and laughed to herself before resuming her studies.

Two hours later, Victoria called her back and asked, "Reaper, have you read it?"

"What are you talking about?" Leah asked in confusion. A moment later, she suddenly recalled that she had not managed to read the draft that was sent to her yet. She slapped her own forehead in exasperation and apologized, "Sorry, I forgot."

Victoria scoffed, "I've been waiting for you to read it this whole time! How can you bear to ignore me like this?"

"Sorry, some stuff came up," Leah apologized profus
