Chapter 1552

Heinz shrugged his shoulders and said, "You wouldn't have listened to me like how you do now if Iwere to tell you. You always act like you're so smart and much better than me. Would you evenbother to listen to my advice and nonsense?"

Gary was stunned. He had indeed not thought about that earlier!

It seemed that he had never had a serious talk with Heinz like this.

Also, he didn't seem to have the patience to do so.

Heinz said, "You and Celeste are not compatible, but you're still with her. Maybe she reminds you ofhow much you've suffered while being with your Mommy and your Little Aunt, so you feel sorry forher. But now that you two are together, you have to be responsible for her to the end!"

"I don't really like the sound of it. How do you define compatibility?" Gary replied seriously, "I knowthe difference between love and sympathy, and I'm not sympathetic towards her."

Seeing Gary being so protective of Celeste, Heinz smiled and teased, "Why? Does your heart achefor her when I'm badmouthing her?"

"Am I still a human if I don't feel sorry for her at all?" Gary hadn't treated Celeste well, so he didn'twant the others to mistreat her for the slightest, including Heinz.

"Sounds like you're very protective of Celeste," Heinz mused.

Gary replied, "Of course, I have to protect Celeste. She's the woman I'll spend my entire life with!"

"Gary, you have a long road ahead of you. You can never be too sure."

"Don't worry, I will never file for a divorce." Gary said in a deep voice, "I won't get a divorce in thefuture either. Otherwise, I won't get married."

"That's a beautiful wish. I do hope that both of you will stay together from the beginning to the veryend." Heinz sighed and said, "Your grandparents, they had intended to stay together at first, butlook at what happened in the end?"

"I'm different from you all," Gary refuted in a deep voice. "You all aren't responsible towards yourmarriages. Although I can't refute this time when you say I'm a jerk, I'll definitely be better than youall when it comes to marriage."

Heinz chuckled and said, "Glad to hear. We'll see about that."

He continued, "It seems like you've really grown up now to have said this. You used to be tooarrogant. Every time I saw you, I would always want to beat you up. If you weren't my son, I wouldhave given you a good beating." It was quite unexpected for Heinz to approve of Gary.

The corner of Gary's eyes twitched and he retorted, "You think that if you weren't my father, I wouldbe sacrificing my sleep to talk with you in the middle of the night?"

Heinz made a conclusion and said, "You see, the two of us dislike each other."

Gary agreed, "Yes, we detest each other, but there's nothing we can do about it."

"But you admitted that I'm your father. Could you address me as your Dad now?"

"In your dreams."

In the night, the two men were bickering with each other, but none of them was pissed. Theyseemed to be used to interacting that way.

"Gary, when will you be willing to call me Dad?" Heinz was persistent and continued to press on.

Gary frowned. "Why are you still bringing this up? Didn't I tell you to wait?"

"The problem is that I've waited for so many years." Heinz thought that he had a good temper.Otherwise, he would have lost his patience after waiting for all those years.

"I don't want to talk to you anymore." Gary replied, "It's getting late. Head back and take a rest."

"No, I don't want to. I'm such a failure." Heinz sighed. "I always feel like I'm a failure when I seeyou."

"Then you have to thank me for acting as your reminder." Gary turned around to head down thestairs, but he stopped and reminded Heinz, "Go back early and keep Mommy company. She's verydisappointed in me. You should be in your best behavior. Don't blame me for not giving you aheads-up."

Heinz's lips twitched as he protested, "You're aware of the fact that you're dragging me along withyour mistakes?"

When Gary went downstairs, Heinz hurriedly followed suit.

Back in the room, he saw Grace, who was wearing a cotton sleeping robe. She was wide awake, leaning against the headboard.

When he entered the room, Grace glanced at him and directly questioned, "You're finally willing toreturn to our room? Have you had fresh enough air?"

"Yes." Heinz smiled sheepishly.

She asked, "What did Gary tell you when both of you were upstairs?"

Heinz lifted his eyebrows in surprise. "How do you know that I was upstairs with Gary?"

He didn't notice anyone else in the corridor.

Grace had an inscrutable look on her face.

Heinz frowned. In an instant, something flashed across his mind. "Was it Sylvia?"

Apart from Sylvia, Heinz couldn't think of anyone who was nosy and smart enough to tell Graceabout their conversation without him noticing.

"You're right. It was indeed Sylvia who told me about it. She said that you and Gary went up to therooftop together, and both of you had a great time bickering with each other," Grace answered.

Heinz was at a loss for words as he looked at his wife in surprise and snorted. "Sylvia has thepotential to become a spy because of her hiding skills. Gary and I didn't notice her at all when shewas eavesdropping."

There was no sound at all in the corridor when they went back downstairs. Sylvia had silentlyeavesdropped on Heinz and Gary's conversation.

She was too skillful.

Grace rolled her eyes and said, "You don't say. She's much smarter than her brothers."

Heinz smiled and said proudly, "Of course. See who's the one who coddled her."

Grace shot him a look of disgust. "How shameless of you!"

Heinz replied, "I'm quite thick- skinned, but I'm indeed proud. However, Honey, you're the best. Yougave birth to such a smart and beautiful daughter. Others are all envious of me."

"Yeah right, others are all so envious of you. Your eldest son still has another family name andrefuses to call you Dad," Grace scorned.

Shots were fired. Heinz slumped onto the bed and buried his head in his wife's neck.novelbin

Grace pushed him away. "Go away. You can sleep alone tonight. Stop coming up so close, you're agrown-up, for God's sake!"

"Could you stop rubbing salt in my wound? I've lost my parents today, and I'm now an orphan."Heinz looked pitifully at his wife and said coquettishly.

Grace was speechless.

"Honey, all we have is your father and Old Master Carter left," Heinz said.

Grace didn't utter a word. She understood that Heinz was reminding her to appreciate them before itwas too late.

She nodded.

"Be filial to your father. It's not that hard," Heinz said. "Once they're gone, there's no way to bringthem back."

"Let's spend more time with Old Master Carter," Grace pointed out. "He's the one who's indeedlonely."

Heinz was stunned.

Grace added, "Why don't we bring Old Master Carter over to live with us? It's more convenient forus to take care of him. Plus, the more, the merrier."

Heinz was once again dumbstruck. He lifted his head to stare at Grace, clearly touched.

Grace was surprised. "Why are you looking at me like that?"

"It's very troublesome to live with an old man. Are you sure?"

"What trouble will there be?" Grace smiled. "We're going to hire a caregiver for him. It's nottroublesome at all. We'll check on him every morning and night, and occasionally spend some timewith him. How troublesome can that be?"

Grace was reminded of the fact that Lawrence had spent the last few years of his life alone, but hedeserved it.

However, Old Master Carter had sacrificed a lot. Grace suggested the idea because she couldn'tbear to see him living alone.

She said, "If you're fine with it, I'll take Celeste to the doctor tomorrow, and then bring Old MasterCarter here."

"Alright, you can do that." Heinz hugged Grace happily. With a wife like her, what else could he askfor?

Grace leaned in closer to him.

"Gary is all grown up." Heinz muttered, "He's matured. Although he still sets me off, he nowunderstands how difficult it is for us to be parents."

"Isn't that what he should do?" Grace was blunt. "As a boy, he must be responsible. That's growth. That's how a man should be. Stop justifying his actions. I'll get pissed."

"Honey, is Celeste really the one for Gary?" Heinz looked at Grace seriously and asked in a seriousmanner.

Grace was stunned before she furrowed her brows.

She asked, "What do you mean by that?"

"I'm a little worried," Heinz said. "I don't think they're compatible."
