Chapter 1497

Gary was rather surprised. He stared blankly at Celeste and asked with a frown, "Don't you wantme to come for a visit? I don't think it would take me much time to travel there. It's only a few hours, tops."

He observed Celeste's expression before continuing, "Celeste, is something wrong? Are you mad atme because I can't be with you?"

"I'm not mad. What makes you think that I am?" Celeste's smile remained plastered on her face.

In truth, she wasn't mad at all, but she was a little disappointed.

How could she not feel that way after he refused her suggestion? However, it was par for the courseto feel some dejection, but she wasn't angry.

It was up to Gary whether or not he came to visit her.

Celeste was just upset that she wasn't a good enough reason for him to come to the UK, but therewas nothing she could do about it.

If he didn't want to come, then he wouldn't want her to go to Boston either.

Celeste smiled. Naturally, she didn't have the nerve to bring up the idea of going to America again.Perhaps the fact that Gary didn't even think about the possibility of them studying together madeCeleste feel a little sad.

Maybe she was too naive when she suggested it back when she was 16. Back then, she had noidea about what Gary wanted. She even insisted on bringing Ernest together with them.

She never mentioned it again after that.

Celeste figured that Gary might have been bothered by the incident although he'd never explicitlyexpressed it. However, this seemed to be the real truth behind the matter.

When they were sixteen, he could stop her from going to Boston with the excuse that he couldn'tcontrol his urges for her. What about now?

The two of them consummated their relationship when they were 20, but he still refused to let hergo to America, and he wouldn't come to the UK either. Obviously, Celeste was very bothered bythis.

However, she figured that it was much better to work at improving herself instead of letting her liferevolve around Gary.

Gary didn't realize what Celeste was actually thinking and assumed she understood what he meantas she was smiling. Then, he nodded, "Celeste, three years are going to pass very quickly."

"Yeah, they will. So, I guess we're in agreement. Let's not see each other outside of the holidays, and it's better for us to focus on our studies. At the very least, we'll be able to spend more timetogether during our next break, right?" Celeste grinned.

"Does this mean that you don't want me to visit you next month?"

"Yup," Celeste nodded.

Gary pondered on her words for a moment. When he saw how serious Celeste was being, he feltthat something was off. In short, things were slipping out of his control, and he frowned asfrustration filled his body.

"If you insist on that, then I'll respect your decision."

Celeste burst into laughter, "Okay, thank you very much for respecting me! It's a deal, then."

After they finished speaking, there was a sudden silence as they ran out of things to say. Then, theymutually agreed to hang up.

Celeste paused briefly before she got up and focused on her thesis.

After Gary hung up, he was upset as he felt that something was off. However, he was swampedwith work after that day and didn't even contact Celeste for the next few days.

On the other hand, Celeste didn't take the initiative to contact him either.novelbin

In a flash, two weeks passed before Gary finally realized that something was amiss. Celeste didn'tcall him at all, and he felt that it was very strange.

A fortnight after his return to Boston, he couldn't help but video call Celeste again.

Meanwhile, Celeste was attending an event in the school auditorium. When the phone rang, sheglanced at it and declined the call immediately.

Gary frowned when Celeste did not pick up his call. He was confused as to what was going on, andhe was very unhappy about that.

Not only did Celeste not call him, she refused to pick up as well.

Thus, he figured that something must have gone wrong. Gary called Maria immediately without asecond's hesitation.

After the call was connected, he bluntly asked Maria, "Maria, do you know what Celeste has beenup to recently?"

Maria was also shocked and frowned, "What's the matter, Gary? Did something happen to her?"

"Have you not seen her at all?" Gary was surprised.

"Yeah, Celeste hasn't been back home for two weeks since she left. She must be busy with school."

"Did you call her?" Gary asked again.

"No, I'm busy as well. I just started school not long ago, so I'm swamped with my new units. Plus, she switched to a new school, so she definitely needs some time to adjust to her new surroundings. What's the matter? Why did you call me to ask about Celeste? Did you two quarrel with each otheragain?"

"Why are you so negative? Celeste and I are doing just fine," Gary shot back.

Maria chuckled at him, "Oh, you're being ridiculous, Gary. You can't contact Celeste, and yet you'rehere squabbling with me. Is it so hard to admit that there's something wrong?"

Gary shifted uncomfortably and paused before saying, "There's nothing wrong with us. She told methat she was busy after I returned to Boston, and she didn't contact me again. I called her just now,but she didn't pick up." "You haven't contacted Celeste for two weeks?" Maria couldn't help but raiseher voice, "So, there was radio silence from you for two weeks, but she's expected to pick up assoon as you want to contact her?"

Maria was pissed off just thinking about it. She was a woman as well, so she naturally tookCeleste's side. Her anger towards Gary boiled in her chest.

"Celeste is not an object that you can do whatever you want with. You can't just expect her to beavailable for you all the time. Think about how much Celeste has done for you over the past fewyears. You abandoned her here, and yet you're treating her as if she's at your beck and call."

"She wanted to go to Boston with you, but your ego got in the way and you wouldn't let her."

"Aside from spending time at our place in London, at my place and at Ernest's, you don't knowanything else about Celeste. Tell me, do you know anyone else that can contact her for you?"

Maria's anger rendered Gary speechless.

In fact, he made this call to ask Maria about Celeste. After all, it was normal for girls to discuss theirprivate matters with each other. However, when he heard these questions from Maria, he realizedthat the problem was very severe indeed.

Celeste must have said something to Maria.

Otherwise, she wouldn't have reacted this way.

"Maria, tell me what Celeste said to you that's caused such a huge misunderstanding."

"You want to know what Celeste said? Fine, she told me and Ernest that she wants to be the bestversion of herself, and she doesn't want to lose herself in her love for you. Celeste doesn't want tobe your slave. She has only loved you all this time, but you distanced yourself from her."

"I haven't seen you for four years, Gary. How heartless can you be? When you came last time, youspent a blissful holiday with Celeste. After you left, she spent her days in fear because Janice wasback in Boston with me. Let me be clear, Janice likes you, and having her in your life is a tickingtime bomb in your relationship with Celeste."

"What I said at first was all from Celeste, but what came after is my own observation of thesituation."

"You're a smart guy, Gary. I don't really have much advice as to what you should do. Take care."

Gary fell silent. He frowned deeply as irritation filled his mind, causing Maria to burst out intolaughter. She had a rough idea of what Gary was thinking.

He was annoyed that he could no longer control Celeste, and Maria hated this sort of man the most.

Gary was a d*ck!

However, Maria didn't comment further and she spoke after taking another glance at him, "As yourcousin, I want to tell you that you should think carefully about your love for Celeste. Do you love herso much that you miss her the second you're apart? If not, let her go so she can find someone whoappreciates her better."
