Chapter 1486

After putting down her phone, Celeste reported to Gary with excitement. He was busy on hiscomputer when she spoke, "Maria and Ernest are back in England. Let's have a meal with them, shall we? There's still three more days before you leave, right? Why don't we get together beforeyou return to the United States?"

Without even raising his head, Gary continued minding his own business. He simply replied, "Okay."

Celeste felt a little dejected.

All this time, he had been busy and immersed in his computer playing games, sending emails, andreading the news.

She didn't know what he was so occupied with. At the very least, the atmosphere among them hadbeen peaceful as they had been getting along recently. As soon as Janice left, things were warmerbetween them than it had been before. There were no more disputes, no more noise.

Logically, things had been good, but there was a lingering feeling of uneasiness lurking beneathmoments like these, and it made Celeste feel a little restless at times.

He felt a little distant.

She knew she had a tendency to overthink things, so began reasoning with herself. Perhaps shewas really looking too deep into it, Gary was with her, and his heart was with her, was thereanything else that felt off?

Celeste tried not to let her insecurities get the better of her, which was why she always reflected onherself to help with her confidence.

Seeing as Gary was busy, she went into the kitchen to pour him a cup of hot tea and brought it overfor him to drink.

Right as he finished sending an email, Gary looked up to see Celeste handing him a cup of tea witha smile. After taking a few sips, he put it down and reached his hands out to hold Celeste's. He said,"Why are you so kind today?"

Celeste smiled helplessly and said, "You're mean. When I don't serve you tea, you say I'minattentive, but when I do, you say I'm kind."

"Are you feeling shy?" He clutched her hands and lowered his head to look at Celeste. "You're stillgetting shy so easily?"

As soon as he saw her blushing face, he had the urge to pinch her cheeks.

Gary gave a light pinch before lowering his head

to kiss her.

Celeste covered her mouth and pried his hands away. "Wait a minute. Did you hear what I just said?Ernest and Maria are back in England so we should have a meal together."

Gary laughed and lowered his head to look at her. He said, "Didn't I just say okay to eat outtomorrow? What's up with you? Did you think I didn't hear you?"

"I just feel like sometimes you're so busy doing whatever it is you're doing, I thought you wouldn't beable to listen to me." She whispered, "It's fine as long as you hear me."

"I'm busy with some work." Gary responded vaguely, as if he didn't want to elaborate. "You wouldn'tunderstand."

"You wouldn't understand", that phrase was really hurtful.

Celeste was appalled. She sighed internally, thinking that maybe she really didn't understand.

However, she still felt a little worried. She wanted to be a part of Gary's world, but she realized thataside from being intimate, the two of them never really ventured past their inner gates.novelbin

She did not know what Gary was up to. They stopped quarreling like how they do, however, theirlives were like a pool of still water, nothing ever stirred the waves.

Stunned, Celeste pulled away her hand from his shoulder and whispered, "I'm going upstairs to takea bath."

Since she "wouldn't understand", she stopped her questioning. It's not like he would tell her if sheasked. If he wasn't going to say anything, she would keep her thoughts to herself, was that goodenough?

Gary glanced at Celeste, feeling like she had been acting a little strange recently. She would stopherself from speaking when she had second thoughts, and this time, like all the other times, was nodifferent as she walked up the stairs.

He frowned in annoyance.

Seeing Celeste leave with a temper, it was obvious that she was a little peeved, maybe even a littlelonely.

Gary called out to Celeste who started walking up the stairs. "Celeste, hold on."

Celeste turned to look at Gary who stood on the ground floor. His handsome face was sullen withfurrowed brows. Her heart skipped a beat as she asked in confusion, "What is it? Is there somethingwrong?"

"Celeste, tell me, are you unhappy?" Gary asked in a deep voice.

Celeste was stunned as she looked at him and denied, "No."

"Don't brush me off." Gary stood up and walked towards her. As he walked, he said, "I feel likeyou're angry with me. If you're feeling a little agitated, I'm willing to indulge or even spoil you. ButCeleste, can you not be dramatic and just tell me what's up with you?"

Celeste was shocked, she never thought he'd call her dramatic. She felt a little unsettled, so shesaid coolly, "You say I'm dramatic, but I don't even know if that's the case. You don't understand howI feel, maybe I really am just being dramatic, but I don't know. You wouldn't understand."

"You wouldn't understand"?

Gary was dumbfounded. Something flashed through his mind.

Celeste continued gazing at him.

"You wouldn't understand", a phrase he said to her countless times, especially during the past fewdays.

She was already immune to those words.

Upon seeing the cold expression on Celeste's face, Gary was angry as he immediately understoodwhat was going on.

He asked her frankly, "Are you angry because I said 'you wouldn't understand'?"

"Gary." Celeste suddenly felt like laughing. It turned out that he understood all along, but he neverbothered understanding her fully, which ended up in him neglecting her feelings.

She took a deep breath and said in a light tone, "Think about it. How many times have you told me Iwouldn't understand? Every time I ask you something to try and understand you, you reply with thesame exact phrase, and I lose my resolve to continue asking. I feel like you don't want me to askanything, but you don't realize that I only ask because I don't understand.

Why won't you tell me anything? If I don't understand, you could explain it to me at the very least. That way, I get to be closer with you and feel the warmth as we close this distance.

At least it won't let my thoughts run wild, but what about you? You deny me every time.

I think you just want me for my body and nothing else."

Gary furrowed his brows and gritted his teeth. "You're right. I only need your body, and not only that,I need your thoughts as well. Every part of you belongs to me."

Gary admits bluntly did not deny her claims.

Celeste was heartbroken. "Do you think I don't have any needs? Do you even know what I want?"

"I profess that I've already given you so much." Gary quieted as he looked at her in silence with aflicker in his eyes. After a long while, he finally opened his mouth and said, "Do I not give you evenan ounce of security in your heart?"

Celeste made up her mind and lowered her eyes. "Of course, you've given me enough security, you've given me everything. I'm the one who's too dramatic, the one who's not good enough. Can Igo upstairs and take a shower now?"

In an instant, the room became quiet.

The two of them walked into a stalemate. When Celeste raised her eyes to look at Gary, she sawhis expression being exceptionally cold.

His frosty gaze pierced into Celeste's eyes as if he wanted to see through her thoughts.

On top of that, his eyes were tense in anger.

Celeste felt an unspeakable sense of loneliness. This time, she felt as if she had angered Gary.

They hadn't quarreled in a while because he always left her alone. After Janice left, they returned toOxford and never went out again. Other than to places like the market, they rarely ever stepped footoutside.

They would be sad and miserable at night. He was usually busy with work during the day, andbecause of that they had scarce interactions.

Celeste didn't know what the problem was.

She was helpless.

She lowered her eyes again and held back her tears. She didn't want to see him anymore. She wasafraid of not being able to stop herself from crying. She didn't like feeling weak-willed.

She turned around and went upstairs to the bathroom.

Gary left abruptly and slammed the door shut.

It was so forceful that it shook the stairs.

She was exhausted.

Despite it, she knew it could not go on like this.

She couldn't revolve her life around Gary. If he wasn't the one making her go crazy, she would'vegone crazy herself.
