Hearing Zachary's words, Grace was surprised. She didn't know much about Aunt Nerissa but she seemed like a gentle and softwoman.
However, hearing how Zachary described her, there must be a reason behind it.
Looking at his serious expression, Grace said to him. "Zachary, don't worry. | believe that Aunt Nerissa will be happy to know thatshe now has a granddaughter. I'm pretty sure both of them will get close, and plus, Maria is her biological granddaughter. I'msure that she will be happy to see her. She might be a traditional woman, but maybe she'll drop that after she sees Maria. Don'tworry too much."
He smiled gently and sighed, "I hope so. In fact, | haven't thought about how to tell my mother. The key fact is that Yvonne hasalready run away."
“What did she say to you in the letter?"
"It's a very short letter. She told me that she gave me full custody of Maria and nothing else." Zachary was very angry with theshort and brief letter.
Heinz frowned and comforted him. "I believe that it won't be easy for mothers to just abandon their child. Maybe she can do itnow, but after some time she might miss her child and come back to look for Maria."
"You don't understand Yvonne. She can be really heartless at times." Zachary's eyes were full of disappointment when hebrought up Yvonne. If she wasn't heartless she wouldn't have left him for so long without any news.
Grace could see that there was history between Zachary and Yvonne that was different than hers with Heinz.
She looked at his bloodshot eyes and was very worried for him. "Zachary, why don't you take a rest first? It seems that you didn'tsleep well last night."
It was obvious that if he met Yvonne the previous night, he would definitely be plagued with many thoughts. It wasunderstandable that he lost some sleep.
"Go and rest," Heinz said. "Maria just fell asleep. If she wakes up and doesn't see you around, she might cry."
Zachary nodded. He frowned then said, "I will take her home when she wakes up."
"It's okay if you want to stay here," Heinz said politely.
Zachary chuckled and shook his head. "I've seen what Little Gary and Ernest are like, | will go mad if | stay."
"Haha." Heinz laughed and said, "Don't take it personally. Your daughter really scared them. She is absolutely astonishing.”Heinz gave him a thumbs-up as he spoke.
Maria was really something else since she easily scared both his sons.
Zachary's solemn mood finally lifted up a little. He looked at Heinz and said, "I hope this is a sincere compliment without anycriticism."
“Look at you. No matter what, she is still my niece. How can | belittle a child?" Heinz explained with a smile.Looking at his smile, Zachary knew he was definitely not trying to belittle her child.
He then quickly returned to the guest room. Seeing his daughter deep in sleep, and the familiar crease between her eyebrows,his eyes turned gentler and warmer.
He then laid down and slept for a while.At four o'clock in the afternoon.
Little Gary and Ernest had woken up at almost the same time. The both of them had been sleeping for two hours or so. Whenthey woke up, they were back to their energetic selves.
"Gary, are you awake?" Ernest looked at him and asked, "Are you feeling better now?"
"I'm much better." Little Gary frowned and said, "It's strange. | thought we would be woken up while we slept. What is that littledevil, Maria, doing? Why didn't she come to disturb us? Don't you think it's strange?"
"Gary, you are weird. Didn't you hope that Maria would not disturb us? If she did, we can't even take a nap. | feel refreshed andbetter now after sleeping for so long."
Little Gary got out of bed. "I feel much better than before. | feel energetic now but | feel like there's something wrong." He walkedto the bedroom door and opened it. He stood by the door quietly and tried to pick up any noise that was happening outside.
The entire corridor was quiet and void of sound.
It was also quiet in the hall, and it looked like nobody was there. Little Gary turned to Ernest and said, "There's no sound at all.Nobody is talking. Did the little devil leave?"
Ernest was surprised to hear that. He then said, "It's better now that she is gone. Uncle Zachary is now deeply in love with hisdaughter. If we treat Maria even a tad bad, he will have our heads. Now that they are gone, we can breathe a sigh of relief whenthey are gone."
"| don't think so," Little Gary sighed. "Uncle Zachary was so fierce to me today. | did nothing wrong to him but he was still fiercetowards me."
"Gary, you've been doing the same thing to our father, but he is at times angry at you. Uncle Zachary would not be asunderstanding as our father," Ernest took the opportunity to tease him seeing how we would react.
Little Gary immediately raised his eyebrows sharply and said, "Oh, you're right. | don't even spare a glance for Heinz. Forgetabout what | said about Uncle Zachary."
Saying that, he closed the door to the bathroom and went in to change his clothes.
Ernest was still in the bathroom. Little Gary left first and was walking along the guest room. The door to the guest room crackedopen a little and voices entered into his ears.
“Maria, wake up. It's time to go home."
It was Uncle Zachary's voice.
Little Gary was surprised to find that they were still here.
