Shannon spoke with exaggerated breaths and a thick accent, sounding both innocent and flirtatious.
"Where are you? Why haven't you been talking to me all day? I sent you messages but you didn'treply. It's making me so sad!"
Brendon listened, glancing at Ranita subconsciously. He noticed her expression was neutral, almostindifferent, and felt a pang of discomfort in his heart.
"Is there something wrong, Shannon?" Brendon asked with pursed lips.
"Brendon... can't I call you just because? I'm so bored at home today. Can I come see you?"Shannon said softly and tentatively before adding pitifully, "It's almost dinner time now. Let's go eattogether... if Ranita is free she can come too."
Ranita couldn't help feeling speechless as she listened.
Brendon felt awkward and wanted to hang up the phone but Ranita held onto his wrist tightly.
He turned back to grab her hand in return, squeezing it gently while looking into her eyes with mixedemotions.
"Brendon! Are you ignoring me just because of Ranita?" Shannon sniffled before continuing onanother topic suddenly, "Someone sent me a picture earlier then deleted it immediately after but Istill saw it... it was a picture of you two together! Maybe Ranita did that on purpose?"
"I know that sometimes my actions upset her but I really don't mean to do that. Why does shealways seem so hostile towards me?"
It hurt when someone kept holding back their true feelings like this...
Ranita couldn't take it anymore, "Miss Murphy... excuse my interruption for a moment here. Whendid I ever send any pictures to you? We're not even friends yet!"

There was silence from Shannon for three seconds until she spoke again with an even more pitifultone than before, "I'm sorry Ranita... I misspoke earlier out of anxiety. It was actually Eve who sentthe photo to me since she is your good friend too."

She laughed sarcastically before saying bluntly, "Miss Murphy, maybe Eve made an honest mistakesending that photo by accident too! Besides, why exactly do you think that I dislike your presencearound here anyway?"

Ranita's words made Shannon cry out in tears. She tried to defend herself, "Ranita, I'm sorry... Ididn't mean it... I never thought this would happen! And don't you have no feelings for Brendon?Didn't you get divorced?"

Brendon hung up his phone and turned it off.
"Ranita... what did you mean by saying we won't get divorced just now?" He pulled Ranita closerand saw that she was red-eyed from anger with words stuck in her throat. Ranita looked at him witha soft voice, "Brendon…can we not get divorced?"
