“Not… not yet. I’m just wondering if I’m pregnant.” Lillian quickly clarified, her discomfort evident as shesquirmed under his gaze. She added meekly, “My period is overdue this month.”
He took a moment to reflect, his thoughts swirling as he considered the situation. “If that’s the case,there’s a real chance she might be pregnant. But if she is, then I…” he mused silently.
Callum responded, “We can confirm that tomorrow with a blood test at the hospital.”
Feeling a bit nervous about the prospect of a hospital visit, she suggested, “I don’t think that’snecessary. We can simply purchase a pregnancy test kit.”
Callum looked at her speechlessly. “Afraid of needles?”
She nodded honestly, then added, “If we happen to pass by a pharmacy or drugstore, could you helpme pick up a pregnancy test kit? Maybe even a few from different brands, just to be safe.”
Hence, when Callum arrived at the pharmacy and proceeded to purchase every pregnancy test kitavailable on the shelves, the cashier gave him a peculiar look. It left Callum feeling ratheruncomfortable, as if he was a pervert.
Upon returning to the car, he handed all the pregnancy test kits to Lillian.
Lillian became completely engrossed in examining the array of pregnancy test kits, even going as faras taking out the instruction manuals to read them carefully, her expression filled with curiosity andexcitement.

After reassuring Callum, Lillian marched into the bathroom with a casual and confident demeanor.
Callum stood by the bathroom door, his gaze fixed on his own hands, and couldn’t help but put on abitter smile. In the he would never have believed that he would one day be this nervous about such asituation.
However, at that moment, his unease was palpable.
He thought, “It would be great if she’s really pregnant. That way, I’d be able to keep her close by myside, even if… even if that means I’m using the child to my own advantage!”

“Are you disappointed?” Lillian murmured meekly, her voice barely audible.
Callum smiled and reassured her, saying, “It’s perfectly fine. We can always plan for a child a few yearslater. All right, you
can come out now.”
“I can’t!” Lillian exclaimed, wearing a troubled expression. “My period is here, but I didn’t bring any padswith me. Could you please help me buy some pads?”
Callum’s expression suddenly froze. “Buy pads?” This was the second time his voice had falteredtonight.
Lillian replied with a hint of humor, “Yeah, or do you want me to come out all ‘bloodily”?” Sheemphasized the word
Callum nodded and said, “I’ll have the servant go and buy it for you.”
Lillian quickly interjected, “Wait! It’s a bit embarrassing to ask the servants to buy this kind of thing.Would you mind getting it for me? You know, back when I was in school, I used to envy those girls withboyfriends who helped them buy pads. I even imagined having my boyfriend in the future do that forme.”
Callum found it a bit perplexing. He couldn’t quite grasp why someone would envy having a boyfriendwho would help buy sanitary pads, let alone fantasize about it in the future.
“Are pads really that important?” he pondered silently to himself.
However, Callum felt himself relenting when he saw her hopeful expression.
Hence, he could only say, “All right, wait for me.”
“Sure!” Lillian smiled sweetly and added, “Help me buy night-use pads from Whisper, please.”
Callum couldn’t quite find the words to describe his own feelings at that moment.
Tonight, he seemed to be constantly buying things he wouldn’t typically purchase and even consistentlyreceived odd looks from people along the way.
When Callum paid for the bill with two bags of night-use pads, the cashier once again gave himpeculiar looks.
It was only after he had completed his purchase that Callum overheard the cashier whispering to hercolleague, “Did you see that? The guy just bought pads!”
“Probably for his girlfriend or wife.”
“A man who buys pads for his partner must be a good man!”
“His partner must be lucky!”
As Callum reflected on the situation, he realized it wasn’t Lillian’s logic that was peculiar; it was thelogic of women that often left men puzzled!
When Lillian emerged from the bathroom after using the pads, she held her stomach with a frown. Herface appeared paler
than before.
“What’s the matter? Are you feeling uncomfortable?” Callum asked with concern.
“Just a mild stomachache,” Lillian reassured Callum, meeting his concerned gaze. She explained,“Don’t worry, it’s normal for me to experience period cramps during the first couple of days.”
He contemplated for a moment before asking, “Is there anything I can do to make you feel morecomfortable?” Lillian replied, “I usually feel better after drinking some hot cocoa, but… do you have anycocoa powder here?”
“I’ll have someone get it for you if we don’t have any,” he assured her, instructing the servants toprepare hot cocoa. He then gently guided her to sit on the couch and placed a cushion under her back,covering her stomach with a small quilt to ensure her comfort.
