Chapter 1061

Aiden was stunned, his gaze fixed on his mother, a blank expression on his face.

“You have a baby?” asked Aiden, surprised. To kids his age, he had only ague concept of how babiescame into the world.

“It was an accident. Amelia said vaguely. “But Mommy hopes that this baby can be consideredlegitimate, so she won’t be the subject of gossip in the future.”

Aiden listened attentively, even though he didn’t fully grasp the situation. and asked. “Are you worriedthat people will call this baby an illegitimate child in the future?”novelbin

That’s because the phrase “illegitimate child” was the term he had heard most frequently from peoplewhen he was younger.

Whenever those people referred to him that way, they did so with a mix of sympathy, pity, and disdainin their expressions.

In the past, he was unaware of the meaning of that phrase.

However, as he grew older, he came to understand the meaning quite clearly.

Amelia’s heart ached when she heard him say that. She realized just how much her son sufferedbecause of her.

“If… you can’t accept it, then I’ll…..”

Aiden replied, “No, I don’t mind. Whatever decision you make, I’ll support you. And… I don’t want myfuture brother or sister to be called an illegitimate child either.”

He lowered his head as if on the verge of saying something else, but hesitated.

“What’s on your mind? You can always talk to Mommy,” Amelia said.

“Mommy, after you get married, are we going to live with Daddy?” Aiden asked, his young face clearlyshowing his concern.

Clearly, he still held a strong aversion toward his father, Warren.

“No,” Amelia clarified, “I’m only marrying him to obtain a marriage certificate. We won’t be livingtogether. I’m doing this solely to provide the baby with a legal identity.” Of course, this was contingenton Warren’s agreement.

With these thoughts in mind, Amelia felt a sense of uncertainty and concern.

She understood that if her intention was genuinely to marry Warren and live with him, he would readilyagree.

However, her current decision to marry him was solely to provide the child with a legal identity as alegitimate child, thus shielding the child from the weight of future gossip.

The following day, Amelia went to the hospital to visit Warren.

Upon seeing Amelia, Warren appeared somewhat surprised. However, he quickly sat up and asked,“Why are you here? I must have startled you yesterday, didn’t I? I… I’m… but I’m really glad that youagreed yesterday.”

The man, who had been at the helm of the York Group, had never exhibited nervousness whenaddressing tens of thousands of employees. Yet, now, in her presence, he was so jittery that he evenspoke incoherently.

“Amelia, I… I will treat you and our children well in the future… No matter what you want me to do, Iwill!” he stammered.

She stared at him and said, “Will you really be willing to do whatever I ask of you?”

“Yes, no matter what kind of requests you have, I’ll agree. I’m even willing to give you my life!” hedeclared with unwavering conviction.

He was ready to give her everything.

“I don’t need your life, but I need you to marry me,” Amelia stated.

Warren was momentarily stunned, and his face froze as if he had heard something utterly unbelievable.

He mused, “Marry her? She wants me to marry her?”

His lips quivered, and he spoke laboriously, as though he had expended all his strength. “You… Whatdid you say? Say it again.” His eyes filled with longing and hope.

“I said, I need you to marry me,” Amelia repeated calmly.

An ecstatic expression flickered across Warren’s face. “It’s true! She really said that she wants us toget married. She still has me in her heart! She still has feelings for me!” he thought excitedly.

However, he then heard what she said next. “But I hope we can get a divorce after the baby is born. Also, we’ll just get the marriage certificate. without holding any ceremonies. After the marriage, I’llcontinue to live in my house, and you’ll live in yours, just as it is now.”

The smile on Warren’s face gradually faded. He stared at her in a daze, his face growing pale.

It turned out that she only wanted to marry him to provide the child with a legitimate identity, and shehad already planned to divorce him within. a year, even before their marriage took place.

To make matters worse, even after their marriage, she didn’t want to live with him and still wantednothing to do with him.

He was nothing but a tool to her.

Warren gazed at Amelia with a blank expression and remained silent for an extended period.

Inside the ward, a heavy silence hung in the air as if the atmospheric pressure had suddenly dropped.

Amelia finally spoke again, breaking the silence. “Can you do that?”

Warren forced a bitter smile and murmured, “Do you have any feelings for me when you asked me tomarry you?”

It would be great even if there was just a little.

Alas, her answer still disappointed him.

“No,” she responded without a hint of hesitation in her voice.

A flicker of pain crossed Warren’s eyes. He suddenly burst into laughter, but it was a pitiful and bitterlaughter.

Amelia could only feel that his laughter bore down on her chest, leaving her breathless.

After a prolonged silence, Warren’s laughter eventually stopped. He fixed his bloodshot eyes on herand uttered, “Fine. I’ll agree to whatever you want.”

“In that case, when you’re discharged from the hospital, please get in touch with me. We’ll go to CityHall to obtain the certificate,” Amelia said.

“Okay,” Warren replied.

Amelia turned around and left the ward.

Warren closed his eyes with a bitter expression and muttered, “So… this is karma. It’s God’s retributionfor me. Amelia, how cruel can you be to me? Can’t I make you feel a shred of pity for me, even if Ispend the rest of my life atoning for my sins?”

He could only bear it and couldn’t complain or blame anyone.

That was because back then, he, too, had shown no mercy toward her.

He had brought this upon himself.

“In a few days, I will register my marriage with Warren,” Amelia announced to Rosalie and Lillian in therestaurant.

Hearing this, both of them were taken aback.

Rosalie was aware that Amelia had decided to keep the baby, but she had no knowledge of Amelia’splan to marry Warren.

Lillian was even more surprised than her.

“Amelia, are you… pregnant? Are you and Warren back together?” Lillian felt like the world had justtaken a sudden and unexpected turn.

“No, we’re just getting a certificate to give the child a legitimate identity and prevent any gossip,” Ameliaclarified. “A year later, I plan to divorce him. We’ll continue living separately and have no connectionwith each other.”
