Chapter 843

By the time her intense will to survive awakened her, it was already too late.

All she could do was watch, wide-eyed, as the pitch-black object advanced toward her.

She could even smell the scent of death.

At that moment, a shadow flashed before her eyes. It swept her up and rolled twice on the ground, narrowly avoiding the lethal strike.

Sofie instinctively turned her head, noticing the other person was wearing a mask. She couldn't helpbut frown and ask, “Who are you? Why are you saving me?”

Damien gave her a cold glance, hoisted her up, and started running.

“Put me down,” she demanded.

“Shut up. If you want to live, cooperate properly. Otherwise, you'll end up riddled with bullets,” Damienreplied. novelbin

After some thought, Sofie agreed. Indeed, the worst outcome will still be death. Since death isinevitable either way, what's the harm in choosing a different way to die? Perhaps these people arereally here to rescue me. I might even live to see another day.

“Thank you very much.”

At the foot of the mountain, Artemis was leaning against a tree trunk and talking on the phone. No one

knew what the person on the other end was saying, but it caused his brows to furrow deeply.

“All right, I understand. You take care of the aftermath, leave the rest to me to handle.”

After ending the call, he gripped his phone tightly as a stern and deadly light flashed in his hawk-likeeyes.

Bailey walked over from not too far away and saw his murderous look. She asked curiously, “What'swrong? Did something unexpected happen?”

Artemis glanced at her and answered through his gritted teeth, “Sofie has fled.”

Bailey chuckled nonchalantly and said, “And here I thought it was something serious. Is that all? Restassured, we're standing guard at the foot of this mountain. Even if she grows a pair of wings, she won'tbe able to escape from our hands.”

Artemis let out a sigh. “She's not escaping through here. She's entering Mortality Base in TarragonHeadquarters.”

The smile on Bailey's face faded away at a noticeable speed.

Her beautiful eyes narrowed slightly, and a dark light could be seen swirling within them.

“If she enters Mortality Base, we're in trouble. Unlike her, we're afraid of dying. We can't keep chasingafter her, tailing her into danger. Even though eight out of ten people who enter Mortality Base will die, but—”

“But there's a high chance she'll survive.” Artemis completed her sentence. “Holden said she didn't runin herself. Someone saved her. Since the other party dared to rescue her at this critical moment, itshows that they are fully confident in ensuring her safety. Let's brace ourselves mentally and not rely onluck. As long as we don't see her dead body, we can't afford to let our guard down.”

Bailey nodded slightly and fell silent for a moment. “Do you know who is helping her? Who saved her?”she asked.

“I'm not sure. Holden has already gone to investigate. We should have the results soon. No matter whosaved her, the fact that she's alive is undeniable. It seems like all our efforts are in vain.”

Bailey couldn't help but chuckle. “In vain? No. I don't see it that way. The reason Sofie is so arrogant isthat she has people backing her up. Now, her power has been completely diminished. No matter howcunning she is, she's nothing more than a toothless tiger. Killing her will be much easier now.”

Artemis's expression softened considerably, and he subconsciously reached out to pinch her cheek.“My wife sure knows how to comfort people.”

Bailey threw herself directly into his arms and wrapped her arms around his neck.

Perhaps his shoulder injury was touched, causing him to wince in pain and draw in a sharp breath.

Bailey quickly pulled away from his embrace. “Are you okay? Are you okay?”

Artemis reached out and wrapped his arm around her waist before leaning in to whisper in her ear,“We've dismantled Sofie's power. Don't you think we should celebrate?”

Seeing his sly demeanor, Bailey instantly became alert. “W-What kind of celebration?”

Her intuition told her it had to be sex. I don't want it!

Artemis wrapped his arm around her waist and led her toward the cabin. “You'll find out soon.”

Bailey's legs trembled a little. “Ha! I don't need to wait any longer. I already know what you want.Artemis, could you please take it easy?”

Artemis smiled faintly and arched a brow. “Don't you want to have a baby? How can you have one ifyou don't make one?”

Ah! That seems to make sense! Wait... No! That's not right. He hasn't even had his recovery surgeryyet. There's no way he can get me pregnant. Bailey mulled over it and responded, “Artemis, you'retricking me again.”

“You're my wife. If I don't trick you, who else should I trick?”

“B*stard!”

By the stream in the primeval forest, Damien gently placed the woman he was carrying on his shoulderonto the field of grass.

Sofie abruptly sprang up from the ground, pulling out the pistol from her waist and pressing it againsthis chest. “D*mn it! Didn't you say you came to rescue me? Why have you brought me to MortalityBase in Tarragon? Don't you know how dangerous this place is? Those who venture in here usually

face certain death.”

As soon as she pulled out her gun, all the people dressed in black around her aimed their guns at her.

“Everyone, stay still.” Damien waved his hand at them, then turned to Sofie, leisurely asking, “Do youthink you can escape through the front door?”

Sofie was taken aback. Indeed, going through the main entrance would surely lead to certain death.

“Who exactly are you? Tell me,” she said.

After a moment of silence, Damien slowly reached up and removed the mask from his face.

Sofie squinted at the face of the middle-aged man in front of her, her expression inscrutable. Thisface... I've seen him before...

“D-Damien? Is that you, Damien?” she queried.

Damien's body shuddered.

Unexpectedly, she still remembered him.

“That's right. I am indeed one of Leo's four personal bodyguards. Artemis seized his territory afterward,so he wants me to approach Gerald under the guise of a businessman, with the ultimate goal of gainingcontrol over the Luther family to manipulate Artemis. I spent several years earning Gerald's trust, andthis time around, he sent me to rescue you. Of course, even if he hadn't asked, I would have come tosave you,” Damien uttered.

Sofie furrowed her brows in confusion. “Isn't Gerald the father of Artemis? I killed his son, so why wouldhe send you to save me?”

Damien nodded and said, “If you die, Artemis's revenge will be fulfilled. They are worried that Baileymight take her own life. So, they want to keep you alive to give Bailey the will to continue living.”

Sofie clenched her fists tightly. So, Bailey is still alive. The one before was a fake one.

“So? Are you planning to hand me over to Gerald once we're out?” she asked.

Suddenly, Damien stepped forward, grasped her shoulder, and kissed her passionately.

A flicker of surprise flashed across Sofie's eyes, which was quickly replaced by overwhelming joy. Thisman loves me! He's never handing me over to Gerald! In other words, I've successfully escaped.

With that thought, she slowly reached out and wrapped her arms around his neck, entwining herselfwith him. As long as I can stay alive, what's the harm in offering my body for his pleasure?

Late that night, Artemis and Bailey had a wild celebration in the cabin.

As soon as it ended, Artemis received a call from Holden.

Artemis leaned against the head of the bed without a shirt and asked, “Have you found you whorescued Sofie?”

“Yes. You know this person. In fact, you know him quite well.”
