Chapter 596

Lionel's eyes darkened, and there was a hint of sorrow on his face. It has just been a few days since Istopped monitoring him. Yet, he already ended up in such a wretched state, huh? I can't believe he'seven thinking about selling the company. Eighteen billion. He sold his shares for a total of eighteenbillion. Did he run out of money so soon? Even if he were to burn the bills one by one, he could'vespent years doing that. Now, it hasn't even been a month, yet he has already squandered all themoney.

“Don't panic. I'll find out more about the situation. If you really don't want Saunders Group's ownershipto change, I can fork out the funds and acquire it,” Lionel suggested.

Victoria shook her head while shedding tears. “It's useless. He offloaded all his shares, so theSaunders family is no longer the company's biggest shareholder. Even if we get to keep the company, the chairman will be changed as well.”

After a brief moment of silence, Lionel decided to tell her the truth. “Vicky, I've bought all the sharessold by your brother at the market price. If you want to restructure Saunders Group, I will transfer theshares to you and finance you so that the company can return to its normal operations.”

Hearing that, Victoria widened her eyes and stared at him in disbelief. She asked with a tremblingvoice, “D-Did you really buy all the shares and didn't let them fall into an outsider's possession?”

Lionel reached out and brushed her stray strands of hair, then spoke in a hoarse voice. “I know youlove your family and the company built by your ancestors. You'll be sad if the company's ownership istransferred. The only thing I could do to make sure you wouldn't get upset was to buy all the shares.”

Her body was shivering violently as she looked at him tearfully, and she choked out, “Victor's shares

must've cost at least twenty billion. I can't believe you're willing to spend such a huge amount of moneyto buy the shares just for me. Lionel, why? Why did you do that?”

Lionel hugged her tightly and chuckled. “Because you're my wife, and you're pregnant with my child.Money is just an external thing. If I can spend this money in exchange for a happy and comfortable lifefor you, I'll do it even if I go bankrupt!”

“B-But I'm just pregnant with a daughter. She can't help you carry on the Gezmond family name—”

Before she could finish speaking, Lionel bopped her head with his fist. “The baby is listening to you inyour tummy. She won't like you if you keep saying such silly words.”

Victoria remained silent.

He caressed her cheek. In truth, he had always felt guilty toward Victoria. Although Victoria did nothingwrong, I hurt her deeply. Her mother wasn't in the wrong either, yet she died because of my father'sscheming. This mother-daughter duo was dragged down by my father and me. I will bear the guilt ofthis forever.

“So, have you decided yet? What is it going to be?” Lionel asked.

Victoria lowered her head and replied slowly, “Then please acquire Saunders Group. I've thought itthrough. I can't just let the company that my ancestors put in so much effort to build get destroyed likethis. Besides, I've already been kind enough toward Victor for providing him the assets worth tens ofbillions. Since he squandered all the money in just a month's time, I no longer owe him anything.”

Hearing that, Lionel let out a chuckle. “I'm glad you've seen the light. Don't be so agitated next time. Ifnot, you'll be the one suffering if you fall sick.”

“Okay.”

Meanwhile, in the living room of the Xuereb residence, Olivia looked at Tamara cautiously and probed,“May I know why you're here, Mrs. Fletcher?”

Tamara remained quiet and merely glanced at the maids who were standing on both sides next to her,her intentions clear.

Acknowledging the meaning of Tamara's look, Olivia quickly summoned the butler to lead the maids outof the living room. When Tamara and Olivia were the only ones left, the latter tentatively asked again,“How may I help you, Mrs. Fletcher?”

Tamara looked at Olivia with an ambiguous expression before she raised a brow and inquired, “I heardthat you were on a hunger strike to force Justin to cut all ties with Veronique. However, you failedmiserably as he would rather watch you die than leave her.” novelbin

An awkward look crossed Olivia's face, as she didn't expect Tamara to be so straightforward. “Well...There was really nothing else that I could do. I guess you can blame it on me for giving birth to arebellious son. I'm just not blessed enough to have Lettie become my daughter-in-law in my lifetime. Asfor my elder brother, it's up to fate what happens to him now.”

Tamara grinned mysteriously and softened her tone. “I have an idea. Since you're my daughter'smother-in-law, would you cooperate with me?”

Upon hearing the word “mother-in-law,” a joyful expression instantly appeared on Olivia's face. “D-Doyou still think of me as your daughter's mother-in-law?”

Tamara held Olivia's wrist and said with a smile, “Of course! After all, my dear daughter keeps sayingshe wants to end her life if she can't be with Justin. As their parents, I think we should help them.”

Olivia nodded her head vigorously. “That's right! We really must help them. What brilliant idea do youhave in mind?”

Tamara lowered her gaze and inquired cautiously, “How about we let Lettie get pregnant with Justin'sbaby through in vitro fertilization? That way, even when Veronique dies, Justin wouldn't die with her. After all, he still has responsibilities to fulfill.”

Olivia was stumped. In the next second, her eyes glistened as she clapped her hands and laughed.“This is brilliant! Why didn't I think of this idea before? This is the perfect plan!”

“Does this mean you agree with my idea, Mrs. Xuereb?”
