Chapter 595

Tamara turned away slightly.

More than being angry toward her daughter, she was heartbroken.

Scarlett liked Justin, and her love for him bordered on obsession.

To get what she wanted, she used every means at her disposal. It was what Tamara had taught herover the years.

To Tamara, Scarlett had perhaps not done anything wrong, and thus, she could hardly blame herdaughter.

“Mom, please, I beg you. Please save me. Regardless of whether I get a life or death sentence, my lifeis utterly ruined. I'm still young, and my life is only just beginning. Are you really willing to see mespending the rest of my life in prison or take a bullet to my head?”

Tamara's expression darkened.

Of course, she was not willing to do that, or else she would not have come on this day.

“Fine, then. After all, you're my only daughter. Who else can I protect if not you? Looks like there's onlyone way now. If you agree with it, it might save your life and give me a chance to help you as well.”

Scarlett straightened her posture abruptly. Still kneeling on the ground, she grasped her mother's arm, asking desperately, “W-What way, Mom?”

Tamara gritted her teeth and uttered, “Get pregnant.”

Rather shocked, Scarlett looked at her blankly and did not respond for a while.

Get pregnant? What is she talking about? Are we not talking about freeing me from this situation? Whyis she talking about getting me pregnant?

Clasping Scarlett's shoulders, Tamara snapped, “Listen to me, Lettie. With the evidence against you, even your father isn't going to be able to save you. Don't you even hold any hopes of destroying theevidence either, as Bailey has a backup copy with her. There is no way you can destroy it. The onlything you can do now is to be put on a suspended sentence, and the only way to do that is to getpregnant. Do you understand?”

Scarlett was not a fool. Living in the Fletcher residence all year round, how could she not know whatbeing put on a suspended sentence meant?

However, it was one thing to understand what it meant, but to accept it was an entirely different matter.

“Mom, you have to help me. You must help me to get pregnant with Justin's child. I will only accept his,or else—”

Slap! The crisp sound of a slap rang out as Tamara gave Scarlett a tight slap across the face androared angrily, “Even now, you're still thinking about that b*stard, Justin? Don't you understand thatyou're this close to losing your life? Do you even understand that?”

Scarlett pursed her lips. Lifting her head, she looked straight at her mother with a determined gaze and

spoke in a firm voice. “Unless it's with Justin's child, I refuse to get pregnant. Even if they sentence meto death right away, I still refuse to accept anything other than that.”

“You—” Furious, Tamara raised her hand to slap Scarlett again.

However, when she saw her daughter's tearful appearance, her hand froze in mid-air, and she couldnot bring herself to do it.

Scarlett was, after all, her daughter. How could she bear to hit her?

Sighing soundlessly, she lowered her hand slowly, saying in a hoarse voice, “All right, then. We'll do ityour way. I'll discuss it with Mrs. Xuereb. If she agrees, I'll relieve her family of their difficulties.”

Wiping the tears from her face, Scarlett hugged Tamara tightly. “I knew you loved me and wouldn't letme ruin my body by getting pregnant with just any man's child. I will never act alone again, Mom. Ipromise I will listen to you, okay?”

Tamara stroked the back of Scarlett's head, saying softly, “Lettie, remember this. Many people arekeeping their eyes on our family now, waiting for us to make a wrong move so that they can drag usdown. Every move you make is being scrutinized. In a way, our family is your support, but at the sametime, it also constrains you. This is as much as I can do to help you. You must watch out for yourself.”

Scarlett merely listened in silence.

In the CEO's office of Saunders Group, the butler's son, Salem, stood nervously in the middle of theroom. He was looking at Victor, who was sitting on the couch, with an anxious expression.

“M-Mr. Victor, something happened.”

Hugging the blonde woman beside him, Victor responded lazily, “Something happened? What couldpossibly have happened? Don't make a big deal out of nothing. If there's nothing important, then getlost. Don't disturb me.”

Salem gritted his teeth. “The overseas company that you invested in a few days ago has been seizedby the authorities. They said it's an illegal business, and the money that we have invested cannot bereturned.”

Bang!

The dull sound rang out as Victor pushed the blonde woman away, causing her to fall to the ground.

Leaping up from the couch, he glared angrily at Salem as he asked in a trembling voice, “W-What didyou just say? The overseas business has been seized? Then what about my money? What about thethree billion that I invested? Is that all gone too?”

Here he was, dreaming about his future fortune. According to his calculations, he had reckoned hecould make at least ten billion each year.

What about my ten billion? No, forget about that first. What about the three billion capital that I'veinvested? That was the last of the funds I had after selling the last bit of shares I had left. If they're allgone now, what will I do in the future?

“Answer me! What about my money?”

Salem's legs buckled, and he fell to his knees, bursting into tears. “T-The boss has run off with themoney. The police are now investigating the case, but the boss has taken the money away through thebiggest international money laundering organization in the world. The police said that there is a ninetypercent chance that they will be unable to recover the money and that you should prepare yourself forthe worst.”

Staggering backward, Victor finally fell back onto the couch.

“It's gone. It's all gone now. This time, it's all over, and I no longer have any shares left. What am Igoing to do? How will I survive?”

After some thought, Salem steeled himself and suggested, “H-How about declaring Saunders Groupbankrupt? You will still get some money if you sell the company.” novelbin

Victor's mind was swimming with thoughts of how he was going to survive without any money. Themoment he heard Salem's idea, he immediately agreed, “Yes! I can sell the company. Quickly contactthe potential buyers. I don't want anything else right now other than money. All I want now is money!”

“Okay, I'll start contacting people immediately. I'll come back to you later with the news.”

With that, Salem left the office.

At the Saunders residence, Victoria was answering a phone call. After listening to something the callersaid, she jerked up from the couch.

“W-What? What do you mean? My brother is selling Saunders Group?”

“Yes, Ms. Victoria. Mr. Victor has squandered all his funds and shares. He has no money left now andis planning to sell the company.”

Victoria's fingers trembled, and the phone slipped out of her hand, crashing onto the ground.

Just then, Lionel, who happened to be descending the stairs, saw the pale-faced Victoria tremblingviolently all over. Shocked by the sight, he rushed forward to hold her at once.

“What's wrong? What happened?” he asked as Victoria buried her face in his chest, cryinguncontrollably.

“Lionel, have I made a mistake? I shouldn't have handed the company to him in the first place. In just amonth, he has wasted the business that our past generations worked so hard to establish. That b*stardis actually thinking of selling the company now!”
