Bailey furrowed her brows as she thought about it.
I can't say no to that... Knowing Clarence, he will definitely go to Vicky and tell her everything if I don'tdo as he says. Vicky has been through a lot of pain, so she can't possibly take any more abuse. If shefinds out that Lionel's father was the one who killed her mother, she would probably grab a knife andstab Lionel in the heart. The driver dropped Bailey off at Century Grandeur about thirty minutes later.
“Do you need me to come with you, Madam?” the driver asked.
“No, that won't be necessary. I'm just going to meet my adoptive father. He won't do anything to hurtme, so you can just wait for me in the parking lot,” Bailey replied with a wave and got out of the car.
She had just arrived at the elevator when her phone started ringing again.
A glance at the caller ID revealed that it was a call from Zeke.
“What is it?”
“Something came up, so I won't be able to make it to the laboratory. I've spoken to the person incharge, so all you have to do is tell him what you need when you get there. He'll do his best to meetyour requirements.”
Bailey let out a soft chuckle. “All right, I will. You go ahead and do what you have to do.”
Clarence had been waiting for quite a while by the time Bailey entered the cafe on the third floor ofCentury Grandeur.
“There you are, Bay!” he greeted her when she came in through the door.
Bailey scanned the room before sitting down in front of him. “Well? Go ahead and tell me what youhave to say.”
After pouring her a cup of coffee, Clarence began talking about the grudge between the two families.
Bailey's face was filled with shock as the secrets were revealed to her one after another.
“So, you were the one who introduced the woman to Mr. Gezmond? You knew he was a womanizerwho pretended to love his wife all along. Well, you cheated on Sophia too, so I suppose you two aren'tthat different. Birds of a feather flock together, after all.”
Clarence cleared his throat and said, “Mrs. Saunders helped Mrs. Gezmond investigate this matter, andthey managed to obtain evidence of Mr. Gezmond's affair. As Mr. Gezmond was known as a loyalhusband, his reputation would be ruined if his affair were to be exposed. That was why he orchestratedthat car accident to silence Mrs. Saunders. I know this because I have spies around Mr. Gezmond.”
Bailey went into deep thought after hearing that.
I've always suspected that there was more to Mr. Saunders' act of revenge against the Gezmondfamily. It'd all make sense if he did it to avenge his late wife.
“Okay, I believe everything you've told me so far. So, are you going to use all that to make me keep mytrue identity hidden from the Shurmer family?”
Clarence's lips curled into a twisted grin. “I can't control what you choose to say. Even if you promisedme today that you would never reveal your true identity, there's no telling if you'll change your mindsomeday and go back on your word. If that happens, my daughter would get kicked out of the Shurmerfamily.”
Bailey massaged her forehead as she said, “I have never thought about returning to the Shurmerfamily, let alone taking Zoey's place. As long as you keep the grudge between the Saunders family andthe Gezmond family a secret, I will do the same regarding my true identity.”
“And how would I know if you'll keep your promise?” Rhonda asked with a sinister smile as shestepped out from behind a corner of the room.
Bailey froze the moment she saw her.
What the... I was certain I didn't detect the presence of anyone else in here! Looks like my senses havedulled after I got pregnant. I can't believe she has been hiding behind that wall the whole time!
“Rhonda, why can't you just stay home and mind your own business?”
Rhonda's eyelid twitched as she stepped forward and grabbed Bailey by the collar. “Mind my ownbusiness? You've turned my life upside down, Bailey! I've been suffering so much because of you, andnow, it's time I make you feel my pain!”
The look on Bailey's face turned gloomy instantly. “What are you going to do?”
Rhonda cackled maniacally as she caressed Bailey's cheek. “What am I going to do? Have you sleepwith my father, of course!”
