Chapter 524

Given everything that had happened, the situation was no longer under their control.

Dexter claimed that Tarragon's men did not attack Veikko and the others, but the Saviors would notbelieve him.

They only trusted what they saw and believed they were attacked, so no amount of explanations wouldconvince them otherwise.

“Artemis, are we really destined to be separated from each other?”

Artemis shot her a glance and pulled her into his embrace. “Don't worry about a thing. I'm sure we'll beable to find a solution to this problem. In the worst-case scenario, I'll give up that identity of mine.”

Bailey flashed him a wry smile and shook her head. “I'm not some ignorant young girl, so those lieswon't work on me. You have access to all of Tarragon's top-secret data, so there's no way they'd just letyou walk out of that life. They'll most likely put a bounty on your head the moment you talk aboutquitting.”

Artemis pursed his lips when he heard that.

Oh, that's right... She's the leader of the Saviors, so she knows all too well how these organizationsoperate. It's true that they're bound to come after me if I so much as bring up quitting. I had nothing tofear when I was single back then, but things are different now. I have a wife and kids, so I cannot affordto make any mistakes.

“Well, I was just making a suggestion. We're not at the point of no return just yet, though. We can stopthe war if we find out who the mastermind is and catch that person.” novelbin

Bailey narrowed her eyes and asked, “Do you have any suspects in mind?”

“It's most likely a high-ranking member within Tarragon. I still don't know why he chose to start a warbetween Tarragon and the Saviors. Let's just wait for an update from Dexter. He should be able to findsome clues.”

“Fair enough. You can go ahead and work on this while I do some research in the laboratory.Veronique's condition is worse than I thought. Her cancer cells are spreading rapidly, so I need to stopthe spread before it leads to organ failure.”

“I'll go with you.”

“No, you should focus on your own tasks. You'd only be able to wait outside the laboratory anyway, sowhy waste your time?”

Artemis couldn't help but let out a wry chuckle after hearing that. “As much as I hate to admit it, I amindeed unable to help with your research. I'm so useless...”

The look on Bailey's face turned slightly gloomy. “I won't talk to you anymore if you say such thingsagain.”

...

She had just stepped out of Luther Group's office building when her phone started ringing in herpocket.

Bailey arched an eyebrow when she whipped it out and saw Clarence's name on the caller ID.

Clarence? He hasn't contacted me ever since he begged me to spare Rhonda. He must wantsomething from me if he's contacting me at a time like this. That old man was willing to betray his owndaughter for the sake of profits, so there's nothing he wouldn't sacrifice. I'm my biological father'sillegitimate daughter, and I'm the reason he got laughed at by everyone. It's only natural for him to takerevenge on me if he gets a chance to.

“Do you need something?”

“Bay, I know who your biological father is. I also know that Zoey is my daughter. Let's meet up, okay? There's something I need to talk to you about.”

Meet up? This is definitely a trap! Given the current situation, Clarence would either have to watch mereturn to the Shurmer family and take away everything that Zoey owns or tie up the loose ends byhelping Zoey eliminate me. Knowing Clarence, he's most likely to go with the second option.

With that in mind, she replied, “I'm not feeling well, so I won't be able to make it. You can just tell meabout it over the phone.”

“I know about the old grudge between the Gezmond family and the Saunders family. If you won't cometo see me, I will tell the girl from the Saunders family about that little grudge. I hear she married Lionel.Do you think they'll be able to stay married if she finds out that Lionel's father was the one who killed

her mother?” Clarence said nonchalantly after a brief pause.

Bailey's face clouded over the moment she heard that.

What? Lionel's father killed Victoria's mother? H-How is that possible? Her mother's vehicle had abrake malfunction and went off a cliff, which resulted in her death. The news of that incident caused ahuge commotion in the upper class. Victoria ended up being depressed for an entire month because ofher mother's death. The police declared it an accident after conducting an investigation, so how did itturn into a murder?

“Don't lie to me, Clarence! I'm not as dumb as you think!”

“I'm not lying to you. Think about it, Bay. Mr. Saunders isn't the kind of person who craves wealth andpower. Otherwise, he wouldn't have given Lionel all of his shares and properties when Lionel went tohim to seek revenge. What he did to the Gezmond family was solely to avenge his wife.”

Bailey tightened her grip on the phone.

All right, to be fair, I have suspected Mr. Saunders of targeting the Gezmond family due to some kind ofpersonal reason. I just didn't think it would be to avenge his wife...

“Why would Mr. Gezmond kill Mrs. Saunders? Also, how did you find out about this?”

“You seem to be very interested in finding out more. Come meet me at the tearoom on the third floor ofCentury Grandeur. We'll talk about you and Zoey as well while we're at it.”
