Chapter 509

They had indeed stirred a hornet's nest, for troubles were endlessly coming one after another.

“Say, who's the troublemaker this time?”

Artemis lifted a brow and chuckled. “Maybe someone wants to get rid of you as soon as possiblebecause they got anxious after Zeke appeared at the antique appraisal event to get you out of trouble.”

Bailey chuckled and shook her head. In a resigned voice, she said, “And here I was, thinking of playingthe role of a saint this time by letting her go and letting her enjoy the luxury of being the heiress of theShurmer family, but... Forget it. I won't tolerate her in silence anymore.”

Artemis reached out to tap the tip of her nose and laughed. “That's right. You've already beenmagnanimous enough, so why should you make things even harder for yourself?”

Bailey reached out to circle her arms around his neck. “You were hoping for that woman to mess up sothat you could take the opportunity to kick her out of the Shurmer family. That way, I'll be able to returnto the family, right?”

Artemis fell silent. Bailey was smart, and his little tricks could never escape her eyes.

Since he could not keep it a secret, he decided to keep his mouth shut instead.

Bailey lifted her head to kiss his lips.

What can I do? I love this man so much. My world will probably collapse if I ever lose him.

“You never bothered setting women up, Artemis, but now, for my sake, you've set Zoey—your savior—up. I...”

Artemis chuckled quietly before sealing her lips with his. He mumbled, “No one else matters to me butyou. So what if she once saved my life? If she ever dares to harm you, I'll still make sure she gets thepunishment she deserves.”

In the morning, the Department of Justice and the Cultural Relics Bureau brought their men to theLuther residence.

Their aim was simple—they were going to move the antique statue to the museum.

The statue was a national treasure and a priceless antique. It could not solely belong to Bailey.

In the living room, Felicity looked at the person in charge of the Cultural Relics Bureau with a frown asshe tentatively said, “We're already worshipping the antique statue in our house's shrine. We promisenot to damage it, so could you please let the antique statue stay at our place?”

The person in charge of the Cultural Relics Bureau was stumped.

He had just received a large sum of donations from the Luther family a few days ago, and the sum wasmore than enough for them to purchase ten antique statues. It would not be a big deal if they were tolet the Luther family keep the one they had.

However, his superior had ordered him to retrieve the antique statue and bring it back to JadeboroughMuseum. He would not dare to go against the order.

“Mrs. Luther, I have no problem with leaving this antique statue here in the Luther family, but mysuperior doesn't agree with it. What about this? If you can get him to agree to it, I'll turn a blind eye tothis.”

Felicity was hesitant. Everyone knew that the antique statue was in the Luther residence, and if shewere to pull strings to keep it, the public would certainly be outraged.

Right as the tension in the room was at its peak, footsteps sounded out from the stairwell. In the nextsecond, Bailey came down the stairs while holding the railing.

“It's just an antique statue. Must the government insist on taking back the statue despite all thecontributions I've made to the country? Please go back. There's no way the antique statue will bebrought out of the Luther residence after coming here.”

The person in charge of the Cultural Relics Bureau wanted to leave too, but he dared not go against hissuperior's order. If he were to mess up on his task, he would lose his position.

“I... I... M-Ms. Jefferson, the Museum of Hallsbay has plenty of antiques. Why don't you take a look atthem and pick some that you fancy? Let's just hand this antique statue over to the government.”

Bailey strode over to Felicity and sat down beside the other woman. With a smile on her face, she said,“The antique statue is a gift from me to my future mother-in-law. What if my mother-in-law gets upsetabout you taking it away and doesn't agree with me marrying Artemis? What then? Are you going to bemy future mother-in-law instead?”

Um...

The person in charge of the Cultural Relics Bureau was speechless, shocked that Bailey could saythose words out loud.

“Ms. Bailey, if you don't hand the statue over to us, I'll have to resort to harsher methods. I know you'reon friendly terms with the person in charge of the Department of Justice, but this is an order from myhigher-up, so your connections will not matter. He has sent his men to arrest you, so please hand overthe statue to us.” novelbin

When Felicity heard that they were going to take action, she quickly turned to say to Bailey, “Let'sforget about this, Bailey. This antique statue isn't destined to stay in the Luther residence, so let's justlet it go.”

Bailey parted her lips, about to reply, when someone's voice sounded outside.

“Ms. Bailey, Mr. Raiden of Dellmoor's Fletcher family is here. He says he has something urgent to talkto you about.”

Felicity froze and did not quite register the message.

However, Bailey furrowed her brows and said, “Don't let him in. Tell him—”

Before she could finish her sentence, a figure dashed into the room. Raiden had already barged in.

“You're going to tell me that you're terribly ill and will not be able to meet anyone, right? Bailey, is thishow you treat guests?”

Bailey rolled her eyes.

He's quick. The people of the Department of Justice and the Cultural Relics Bureau have just arrived, and he's already here. In fact, I'm starting to wonder if he sent his men to keep an eye on me twenty-four-seven. But that doesn't seem right. We're in Hallsbay, and Hallsbay is Artemis' territory. That manwould never let his love rival spy on me.

“Why are you here?”
