Rhonda lay sprawled in the bushes and dug her nails into the soil.

Slowly, Cadence squatted down and reached out to grab her chin once again. Smirking, he said, “Don'tworry. You'll gladly do as I say. I want you to kidnap Bailey's son.”
Rhonda could barely hide her surprise. After regaining her composure, she demanded, “You want tothreaten her with her son so she'll hand the evidence showing that you're the culprit to you?”
“You're not that stupid.” Cadence patted her cheek and chuckled. “So? This is exactly what you want,right?”
Rhonda turned away and mocked, “I'm not a three-year-old kid who falls for your lies easily. After sheagrees to give you the evidence, you'll release her son. What will happen to me, then?”
Cadence forced her to look at him and leaned down to cover her lips in a kiss. A look of ecstasy creptup his face.
“After you help me kidnap Bailey's son, I'll inject an incurable poison into his body. Even if the deal is asuccess and I return her son to her, she won't be able to save his life,” he told her.
Rhonda lowered her gaze and fell into deep thought.
This old b*stard hates Bailey immensely as she's the reason he's in this wretched state. Bailey's sonwill definitely suffer in his hands.
“Fine, it's a yes from me. You should hide somewhere while I find a chance to kidnap Bailey's childrenfor you.”
In the medical base, Justin offered Veronique a glass of warm water in his study.
In a calm voice, he said, “I came here to deliver good news. Scarlett has agreed to donate her bonemarrow.”
“What?” Veronique cast him a flabbergasted look. Her voice was trembling as she sought confirmation.“D-Did she really agree to donate her bone marrow?”
Justin grunted in acknowledgment.
Veronique urged, “When will she be donating it, then?”
“After our wedding. Within this month, I suppose,” came Justin's answer.
After their wedding?
Veronique stiffened as the delight in her gaze faded away.
Is he going to marry Scarlett? Good for him. I should give him my blessings. I never intended forZephyr and me to disturb his life or destroy his happiness anyway.
“Congratulations in advance. There's no need to invite me to your wedding. I believe your parents won'twant to see me there. Ms. Fletcher will definitely share their sentiments.”
With that said, she rose to her feet hastily and staggered out. “It's almost time for Zephyr to change hisIV drip. I'll take a look at him. You should get back to work.”
Justin pursed his lips and watched as she fled his study. He sighed to himself.
Have I been wrong since the start? To protect her from the Fletcher family, I keep hurting her feelings.That doesn't seem to be the right thing to do.
“Hmm? Are you in a foul mood?” Artemis asked as he walked into the study.
Justin lifted his head in confusion. With a frown, he responded, “Shouldn't you be helping Baileycapture Cadence? Why are you at the medical base?”
Artemis sat across from him and revealed calmly, “He managed to escape. I was worried that he mighttry to take revenge on Bailey and the kids, so I was wondering if they could move into the medical basetemporarily.”
“Huh?” Justin gaped incredulously and exclaimed, “It's a great chance for you to trick her into moving toyour private residence and getting your way with her. Instead of doing that, you sent her to my placeinstead? My friend, this isn't the time to be a gentleman with principles. It's the perfect chance toplunder a burning house! She has nowhere else to go, so bring her to your mansion and make her yourwoman.”
“Do you think I don't want that?” Artemis undid the top few buttons of his shirt in frustration andexposed his tanned chest.
I want nothing more than to make love to her. However, she wants nothing more than to leave Hallsbay.There's no way she'll sleep with me.
“I tried to convince her on the way here and even used my masculine charms, but she refused tobudge.”
Why is he so useless? He failed to persuade her to change her mind even after he tried to seduce her.
Veronique bumped into Bailey the moment she stepped out of the study.
“Vero.” Bailey stretched her hands out to support a stumbling Veronique. She sensed something wasoff with the latter's emotions and asked, “Did something happen to Zephyr?”
Veronique shook her head profusely and wiped her eyes with her arm. When her vision cleared, sheflashed a smile. “Nothing happened, so calm down. Zephyr is doing well. Zayron and Susan arekeeping him company.”
Bailey bobbed her head as her gaze landed on the study door not far away from them. Comprehensiondawned when she heard Justin and Artemis' faint voices chatting inside.
“Vero, you and Justin—”
“Nothing happened between us,” Veronique explained hurriedly. “He's going to marry Scarlett soon.”
Bailey was stunned.
Justin is marrying Scarlett even after learning that Zephyr is his son? Did he even consider theirfeelings? If he hadn't taken advantage of Veronique that night, she wouldn't have had to lead such atough life!
“He's going to marry Scarlett?” Bailey narrowed her eyes angrily. “He isn't going to raise another kidwith you to save Zephyr's life? Is he giving up on Zephyr?”
“No, that's not it,” Veronique explained. “Scarlett agreed to donate her bone marrow after they getmarried. Bay, there is hope for Zephyr.”
Bailey was taken aback. Realization soon dawned on her, and she shot Veronique a sympathizing look.
Yes, there is finally hope for Zephyr. Nevertheless, you'll never be happy again.
“Vero, Justin isn't that heartless. He won't object to building a new family with you. Why don't you tryhaving a baby with him? That way, you can use the baby's cord blood to save Zephyr. You can be ahappy family of four.”
A bitter smile flitted across Veronique's lips as she pulled Bailey to a corner. Her voice was hoarse asshe revealed, “Bay, I sustained serious injuries when I gave birth to Zephyr. After my father whippedme twice a while ago, my health has gone down the drain. I might be barren forever.”
“You...” Bailey was about to ask why Veronique had kept it a secret from her, but she swallowed thewords on the tip of her tongue.
