Chapter 972

Chapter 972 Compensation

Five hundred million?

At first, Aiden thought he had misheard what Alex said. Even though I messed up Four SeasCorporation’s office, five hundred thousand in damages should do it, shouldn’t it? How could he be soshameless as to ask for five hundred million right off the bat? Isn’t that blatant daylight robbery? Evenrobbers aren’t so greedy!

“For someone who’s uncooperative and intentionally damaged someone else’s property resulting insignificant losses, they’ll get three to five years in prison. Logan replied without hesitation.

Aiden subconsciously raised three fingers as he swallowed hard and mumbled, “T-Three years!”

The thought of spending three years in a dingy prison cell sent a shiver down his spine. That’s no placeto live in! Not only do I own a company with a market value of tens of billions, but I was also hoping toget something going with Caroline! How can I afford to go to prison?

“Mr. Jefferson, I had your office thrashed due to a momentary lapse in judgment. However, thecompensation can’t possibly come up to five hundred million, can it?” Despite his anger, he eked out asmile and reasoned with Alex in a friendly tone.

“Well, what else am I supposed to do? With the state the office is in, it’ll surely cost a bomb to renovateit. Besides, the trouble you’ve caused today has affected the company significantly and given myemployees a terrible shock. Adding up the cost and compensation for renovations, businessinterruption, mental distress, and the impact on Four Seas Corporation’s reputation, five hundredmillion isn’t asking a lot, is it?” Alex countered, ticking off each item on his fingers.

Aiden was so beside himself with rage that he could not help thinking about how he wanted to rip apartthe insufferable jerk in front of him. His chest felt as though it was about to explode with anger.

He wished he could lash out. However, since he was at a police station, what choice did he have but tosuppress his anger, force a smile, and discuss the matter calmly? “Mr. Jefferson, regardless of whathas happened, our companies are working together. For the collaboration’s sake, let’s make it ahundred million, okay?”

That’s going to cost me a fortune already. This ungrateful b”stard had better quit while he’s ahead!novelbin

Meanwhile, their collaboration had nearly slipped Alex’s mind. Had he not brought it up, I would’veforgotten how he pulled a fast one on us! Not only did he have someone switch the contract, but healso produced some lousy equipment to fool us. I’ll have to settle that score today too.

With that thought in mind, Alex patted Aiden’s shoulder and smiled amiably. Seeing that, Aiden thoughthe was agreeable with his suggestion and satisfied with the proposed compensation of a hundredthousand.

Hence, he was about to thank Alex when he heard the latter add, “Oh, I nearly forgot about the contractif you hadn’t mentioned it. Although you switched the contract, we have a backup copy on thecomputer. Since we happen to be at the police station, I’ll have someone bring over the contract and letthe police handle this matter. A fraud offense like that could easily mean another couple of years inprison.”

Aiden’s jaw nearly dropped to the floor in shock. He had not expected what he thought was a foolproofplan would come back to bite him. How did I not know that they kept a backup copy? If a count of fraudgets thrown into this mix, I’ll have to sit in prison for another two years! No, that won’t do. I’m aprominent and respectable figure now. I can’t have the stigma of having gone to prison linger over me! Ican’t let that happen, na

matter what!

Since the situation had come to that point, the only thing he could do was admit defeat. Wearing abitter expression, he apologized to Alex. “What happened before was only a joke. There won’t be anyissues with the equipment next time.”

Alex chuckled coldly. “How professional of you to joke about a contract worth two hundred million, Mr.Ward. In that case, you’ll have to compensate me seven hundred million. If you refuse to bearresponsibility, the head of the police station won’t hesitate to detain you here.”

Seven hundred million? Aiden nearly fainted when he heard that. He had merely wanted to find anangle to steer the negotiation in his favor, never imagining it would lead him spiraling straight into anabyss.

Without caring that others were nearby, he lifted his hand and began punching himself in his mouth.Because I talked too much, I need to fork out another two hundred million!
