Upon seeing Alex, Richard tugged at Giles’sleeves and uttered smugly. “Are you seeing this? That’sAlex, my grandson-in-law. Check out his suit! He looks so handsome compared to how he normallylooks. As a matter of fact, he looks like a noble prince! He’s a perfect match for my granddaughter.”
Giles’ expression was grim, and he was livid. He shoved Richard’s hand away and snorted. “I wouldn’tbe so smug if I were you, old man. No matter how capable Alex is, he’s still a divorcee, and he has achild. I’ll help Lydia find a young man who’s even more handsome and more successful than Alex.You’re going to be so jealous of me in the future.” Giles panted in anger while glowering at Richard.
Those two old men had been competing with each other for the better halves of their lives. Giles wasinfuriated because, like Richard. Giles also wanted Alex to be his grandson-in-law.
“So what if this is Alex’s second marriage? People are bound to have failed relationships. I doubt youcan find another man as impressive as Alex to be your grandson-in-law. Giles, I feel bad for youbecause you have to watch me secure such an incredible grandson-in-law!” Richard teased.
Giles couldn’t find the words to refute him. Throughout the eighty-odd years of his life, he had neverseen a man as capable as Alex. I don’t think I can ever find a man as competent as Alex.
