“T–that b*stard! And to think I still held out hope for him…” Heather staggered suddenly, the folder inher grip slipping free to land on the ground.

To tell the truth, while she did prefer men like the chairman, but Alex was still her husband and they hada son together.

Stanley was already four years old. So naturally, she was hesitant in her choice to divorce herhusband.

Whenever she threatened Alex that she wanted a divorce, although it looked like she was serious, shewas actually banking on the fact that Alex would not really agree to a divorce. Most of the time, Heatherwas just joking with him as well.

But upon discovering Alex was a suspected rapist now, how could she not be furious?

The first person to pop up in her mind was Dylan’s girlfriend. Dylan must have finally raised chargesagainst Alex.

Last time, at Dylan’s restaurant, she afforded him the benefit of the doubt, thinking that the situationwas not what she thought it was. Besides, Alex appeared unscathed at the time, so Heather put theentire incident out of her mind.

And yet, the police took Alex away just now. From her head to the very tips of her toes, Heather felt aboiling sense of anger that threatened to make her explode. Alex could just rot in jail. He had brought iton himself.

But Stanley and her would suffer needlessly by catching in the edges of his trouble. Heather couldalready envision their future. They would inevitably be assailed by a barrage of insults and scorn eachtime they appeared in public, all for being the wife and child of a rapist.

“This is all your fault, sis,” Lucas said petulantly. He sighed. “You could’ve divorced him earlier but no.Well, now our family is well and truly screwed by him.”

“Heather, why don’t you just take this as a chance to really divorce him? I’m guessing that the Directorof the Four Seas Corporation must be interested in you because no one would just give away 10% oftheir company shares as a gift. You should divorce the useless lump once and for áll and take theinitiative to meet up with the chairman.” Carmen paused for a while before continuing, “Dear, you knowthe saying: women are scared of men pestering them, but men are exactly the same. If you take theinitiative. approach him, I’m sure he’s not going to be able to resist you. When a man pursues awoman, that’s like climbing the Mount Everest. But if a woman chases a man? It’s as easy as breakingthrough paper.”

The meaning was more than clear. If Heather really exerted her charms, the Director would fall for hereasily.

“Yeah, sis!” Lucas suddenly looked hopeful. “If you hooked up with the Director, our family will definitelybe able to rise again. You know how Harper’s family were throwing such a big fuss about her marryinginto just the Hale family. I can only imagine what would happen if she were married into an actuallypowerful family. Their asses would probably be sitting among the clouds. Sis, maybe Granny wouldeven let us back into the family if you married the chairman!”

“Hmph!” Carmen snorted. “Your Granny is truly heartless, you know? She refused to even keep yourfather’s memorial plaque in the family home. Imagine if your father were to know about this. Howheartbroken would he have felt?”

Heather frowned, but the resistance in her heart was softening.

Honestly, after being stood up by the chairman a few days ago, her pulsing attraction to him had cooledoff somewhat. Ever since that night, she decided to treat him with nothing more than a superior, with noextra effort given. The chairman had helped her out a lot. He could do whatever he wanted with her butshe was no longer interested in being the one who took initiative.

But after listening to her mother and brother’s words, she felt her heart stir treacherously. Even if shedid not take them into consideration, her Granny’s actions alone were abhorrent enough to make herangry.

Her father had been dead for years, yet her grandmother did not even hesitate in removing hismemorial plaque from the family home. It was an act of humiliation against their family, as well asblasphemy against her dead father.

“I know.” Heather nodded with a plan formed in her mind.

She was prepared to see a lawyer to arrange all the relevant paperwork for a divorce. This time, regardless of if Alex agreed or not, she was going to divorce him.

Alex would be locked in jail soon. So, he had to agree, no matter what.

“Director Jennings!” Heather’s assistant called out suddenly in surprise. “Isn’t that your husband?”

Heather followed the direction of her gaze. The assistant was pointing at the screen of the television atthe lobby of the company.
