Kate realized the issue too. She wanted Stanley to do household chores, but there were hardly anychores to be done at home.
She turned on the television. While watching it, she munched on some nuts and deliberately kicked thetrash can aside.
“What are you waiting for? Can’t you see it’s dirty here? Hurry up and grab a broom to clean it,” Katecommanded as she glanced at Stanley, who was still standing at the door.
Stanley walked over timidly and said nothing, sweeping the nuts off the floor with a broom obediently.

“Ms. Sutton, I…” Stanley fidgeted with his fingers. Even when tears started to fall down his cheeks, hedidn’t dare to tell Kate that he wanted to go back to his room to finish his craft assignments.
Kate shot Winona a glare as she snatched the broom from her hand and threw it on the ground. “Did Iask you to do these things? Go and take care of Emma. From now onward, Stanley will be in charge ofall the household chores. You are not allowed to help him. If I find out, I’ll make sure you regret it!”
Glancing at Stanley worriedly, Winona mustered all her courage and said, “Ms. Sutton, he’s still a child!How can he do all these chores? I may be old, but I’m perfectly capable of taking care of the childrenand doing chores at the same time. Mr. Jefferson cares for Stanley so much. Although Winona had only been working for two days, she had developed a general understanding ofthe family. She knew that Kate was abusing Stanley because she was his stepmother.
The reason she said those words were to remind Kate to watch her behavior and treat Stanley betterout of consideration for Alex.

“You are just a servant. Who gives you the right to meddle in so many matters? Were you trying tothreaten me just now? I’ll make your family suffer if you dare breathe a word to Alex.” Kate lookeddaggers at Winona as she issued a threat.

Upon hearing Kate’s threat to her family, Winona dared not utter another word. She was still fearful ofwealthy individuals like Kate, and it wasn’t worth sacrificing her own family for other people.
After venting her anger, Kate went back to her room to take a nap. However, she tossed and turned,unable to fall asleep. Before she knew it, she was already standing at the entrance of the study.
Kate paused for a moment, contemplating whether she should open the door and take a peek inside.She might discover some confidential information about Four Seas Corporation.
She only had Emmalyn. If she could obtain some leverage on Alex, she would get a firm hold on him.
Kate decided to push open the door, only to realize that it was locked.
She had never felt more determined to open the door. The fact that the door was locked made her evenmore certain that Alex was hiding some big secret in the study.
Kate went to Alex’s room and searched it thoroughly. At last, she managed to find a key in aninconspicuous corner that usually went unnoticed.
Grasping the key in her hand, Kate went back to the entrance of the study and inserted the key into thelock. With a turn, the door was opened.
Delighted, Kate entered the study without hesitation. Then, she started to search the room thoroughly.
However, to her disappointment, she didn’t find anything particularly useful. She was about to leavewhen a book caught her attention.
“Insect Codex?” Intrigued by the peculiar name of the book, she immediately started flipping through itspages. The further she delved into the contents, the wider her smile became.
