Chapter 3137

After a moment of silence, Austin answered, “I can’t do anything about it. I’d just be an employee. Imight not be able to spend Christmas at home this year.”

Tania scowled fiercely.

Her precious baby boy was someone’s employee instead of staying home as a pampered youngmaster.

“You’re telling Nana yourself about not coming home for Christmas,” Tania grumbled. “I don’t knowwhat you’re thinking. Why did you go so far when Christmas is around the corner? You don’t evenknow when you’ll be back.”

In Austin’s words, he was going to be an employee and he could not do anything about it.

He could not come and go as he wished.

“By the way, do the O’Connors only have one chef? If there are more than one, you could at leastrotate your leaves for Christmastime. Employees do get personal time off, mind you. All ouremployees have to do is tell Sam in advance they’re taking leave and he’ll arrange for cover.

“Work doesn’t interfere with them spending the holidays with their family at all. Christmas is a timefor reunion and our family can only all be together then. You just had to go so far.”

Tania was in a bad mood at the very thought of Austin not being around for Christmas.

Austin replied, “Mom, I don’t even know if I’ll get the job yet. We’ll talk after I really do. I can’t say forsure right now if I’ll be able to go home for Christmas.

“If you don’t get it, come home immediately. You can go back there after Christmas.”

“Okay.” Austin agreed to whatever his mother said, not wanting her to be in a bad mood.

After finally coaxing his mother and hanging up, Austin muttered to himself, “When Zack and I wereyoung, you guys were never around. Sometimes, we wouldn’t see you for eighteen months straight.

“Now that you guys are retired and it’s our turn to be busy with our lives, you want us to spend timewith you at home every day.”

After his parents grew older, they saw things differently and even felt differently about their children.

The brothers could not say that their parents did not love them, but when they were young, theparents bore heavy burdens and the boys preferred staying with Grandma May. That was why Liamand Tania entrusted them to the Old Mr. and Mrs. York. Naturally, they spent a lot less time with theboys.

On the other end of the line, Tania sighed as she sat on the sofa after hanging up on Austin.

Through the reading glasses perched on his nose bridge, Liam could not help but look up from hisnewspaper when he heard her sigh. He asked with amusement, “You’ve talked to him over thephone, so why are you sighing so much? He’s just gone out of state. It’s not the first time either, sodo you have to keep worrying about him all day long?

“You never worried this much about them when they were young. They’re all adults now and havegained some life experience. What are you so worried about?”novelbin

Tania sighed, “Christmas is right around the corner and Austin has gone so far away to be someoneelse’s private chef. In his words, he’s a salaryman now. He doesn’t even know if he’ll be able to takeoff for the holidays.”

“If he doesn’t, then so be it. It’s enough to know that he’s doing well over there. Next year, he mightbe bringing a girlfriend home for Christmas, you know.” Liam folded up his newspaper and

chuckled. “Christmas next year will be very lively. Our grandson will probably be quite a few monthsold by then. Who do you think Zack and Serenity’s child will resemble more, Tania?”
