Aware of his brutality, his lovers became more tactful. They were fine with him giving them money.
They never dreamed of replacing his wife or having his child to get a portion of his inheritance. They
would probably end up dead if that happened.

Aside from the three sons and a daughter he had with his wife, he still had a son and a daughter—

Now that Mr. Longbottom said the same thing, Carrie realized that she was far from being an
acceptable missus of a wealthy family.
Although the Newmans were rich, they were considered new money compared to those wealthy
families that went a long way back.
Most people probably viewed her as a child of new money rather than a true elite daughter.
Instead, they felt Camryn had better qualities.
Thinking about it, Camryn did look elegant and proper. Her every action looked like that of a noble.
Carrie hated it. She was of the opinion that Camryn only achieved that image because she got married
to Callum.
If she had been the one to be the York family’s missus instead, her qualities would have been just as
great.
“I know my babe is a good girl.”
Seeing that he had scared her enough, Mr. Longbottom gave her an approving look. He said
affectionately, “It’s late. Go to sleep.”
He did mention that he would help Carrie to replace Camryn as Callum’s wife after she kidnapped
Laurence for him. It was a fake promise. However, even if he were to fulfill that promise, she would only
