Chapter 2659

After Corey left with Sonny, Duncan asked Serenity, “Did your sister really ask you to come see me

when she left? How is she? Have I become too sensitive, and emotional, and affected her?

“Serenity, do you think I’m being unreasonable? I’m almost thirty-seven years old and acting like a

child.”

The more Duncan spoke, the more self-blaming he became.

He felt genuinely unreasonable this time.

“Duncan, Liberty really worries about you. It’s just that she had a tight schedule, so she couldn’t make it

here. She repeatedly asked me and Zachary to come and comfort you. Sonny is very honest. Don’t you

believe what he said?

“Duncan, I’m not afraid of you getting angry or feeling vulnerable. But this time, you are genuinely being

unreasonable. Look at the way you’ve shut yourself in this room for a day without eating or drinking.

You’ve not only caused my sister to worry before she left but also Mrs. Lewis. I’m sure you don’t feel

good about it either.

“It’s not just about you being unwell; it’s also about those who care about you.”

Duncan fell silent.

Zachary also spoke up, “Duncan, how can we help you? We’ve repeated comforting words so many

times. Recently, you’ve been back to your normal life. If Liberty didn’t care about you, she wouldn’t

bother with you.

“To be honest, she’s becoming more outstanding. If she wanted, many men out there would be willing

to be with her, to marry her. Have you seen her being particularly close to other men? She has never

explicitly said she’s your girlfriend but isn’t your relationship with her already like that of lovers?

“She works hard to bridge the gap between you two. If you feel you’re holding her back, she feels that

even with you in a wheelchair, she can’t catch up to you. Both of you are moving forward together. She

strives for you and Sonny, to build your careers. You should also smile at life for her and Sonny’s sake.”

“Look, you can’t keep getting caught up in trivial matters like this in the future. Is your phone still off?

Turn it on and check the notifications. Liberty sent you a lot of messages.”

Liberty said that Duncan did not answer her calls, or reply to her texts. That went on for a while before

he shut down his phone, declining all incoming messages.novelbin

As Zachary was done saying his piece, Duncan reached for his pockets to grab his phone. However,

he could not find it. Then, he remembered he had tossed his phone. He said hurriedly, “Zachary, help

me find my phone in the room. I threw it somewhere this morning, not sure where it landed. Can you

help me search for it?”

Zachary chided, “The older you get, the more childish you get. They say once a person gets old

enough, their mental state regresses to that of a child. You’re not even that old yet, why are you so

childish?”

Despite the criticism, Zachary went to look for Duncan’s phone.

After a short while, Zachary came back with the phone in hand.

He said as he walked over, “Your screen’s broken. You should buy more phones, in case you smash

your next phone.”

Duncan was a rough guy, rarely blushing, but with Zachary’s teasing, his face turned beet red.

Zachary handed him his phone. Seeing the shattered screen, Duncan peeled off the screen protector

and said, “As long as the phone isn’t broken, it should be fine.”

Hundreds of notification sounds rang after one another once the phone was switched on.

He checked his messages, and almost all of them were sent by Liberty.

As he read each message, he could sense Liberty's concern for him imbued in each line.

After a while, he said, “I’m worse than Sonny.”

Even when Liberty was away on a business trip, Sonny did not cry. Instead, it was he who was difficult.

“Good to know you have some self-awareness. Liberty probably hasn’t landed in Jensburg yet. You

should give her a call later to reassure her. Now, do you want to go downstairs for some light

exercise?”
