Chapter 2436

Corey would be in tears if she was watching her son.

After all this time, Corey still blamed herself. She believed she was the reason for Duncan’s car

accident.

If she had not stopped him from seeing Liberty and threatened him with death, he might not have beennovelbin

driving so fast.

If she had not chased after him, he might have braked in time, and he would not have ended up in a

car accident that left him wheelchair-bound.

It was all her fault.

Corey cried when Duncan gave up on himself. She also cried when Duncan struggled and became

flustered during rehabilitation. Hence, Duncan did not allow family by his side when he had these

sessions.

He did not want his mother to cry. It also annoyed him that Corey often cried even though he had

accepted reality.

“Okay, I’ll take a short break. I’ll stand up in a bit. Do you have water, Liberty? I’m thirsty.”

“Rest here. I’ll go inside to fill a bottle of water for you. Do you want anything to eat? Should I bring you

something?”

He could get hungry from the workout.

Duncan said with a smile, “I’m not hungry. We just had breakfast. Mrs. Lane is such a good cook. I

always eat to my heart’s content when I dine at your place. Just get me a bottle of water.”

“Don’t push yourself too hard, especially if your legs hurt too much. I’m going to fetch you some water.”

“Go on. I know my body. Don’t worry. I won’t push myself too hard.”

Following Duncan’s repeated assurance, Liberty hurried into the house and cleaned a bottle to fill it up

with water.

Duncan was thirsty, but he also sent Liberty away so that she did not have to feel bad seeing him in

such a state.

By the time Liberty returned from fetching water, Duncan had climbed his way to his feet and started

walking.

This time, he took two extra steps. He was happy and wanted to share it with Liberty. As he turned

around, he remembered that he had sent Liberty away.

Duncan fell back to the ground when he turned.

He pounded his legs. “I’m so useless. I can’t do more than four steps. I spent so much time in

rehabilitation, but I can’t even make it past a few feet. What good am I for?”

Duncan hit and smacked his legs.

He looked up to the gray sky. The dark clouds were much like what he was feeling.

By the looks of the gloomy sky, it was about the rain. He was covered in sweat despite the chilly wind.

Duncan wiped away his sweat.

“I need to stand up again. I need to stand up for Liberty and Sonny!”

Duncan quickly bounced back from despair. He must not be beaten down.

As Liberty put it, others in his boat still could not stand up straight. Not only was Duncan able to stand,

but he could also take a few steps. He had made great progress in his recovery.

He had not used a cane either.

After sitting for a while, Duncan got to his feet again and persisted in walking.

Even though he kept falling on the grass, he stood up again and again. His determination led him to

take nearly ten steps. It was the most he had ever walked since he started rehabilitation.

Duncan was overjoyed. He believed with more effort, he could walk a distance.

Once he had done that, it would not be too long before he could walk like he used to, signifying a full

recovery.
